I have my squad of berserkers along with my entire crimson slaughter force airbrushed and ready for the table, but there are very few things on this platform that bring me as much joy as watching you basecoat, wash and highlight a space marine Duncan. You taught me how to paint and I can’t thank you enough for that

BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! I love me some Berzerkers. No subtlety, no tactics, just charge! Painting the trim first is something I've had to learn the hard way with my Black Legion. Personally I'd use a little darker of a red for World Eaters, as Mephiston Red is a little too Blood Angels in my mind. This one ended up looking quite close to the box art though.
I feel the same about the Mephiston red. My plan is to use Khorne red for that layer. The first time I saw the new berzerkers, my first thought was wow I love those. The second was that red is too bright.
Every time I work with the metallic paints and the water turns into what we see at 2:55 I think of Star Trek DS9 and the greatlink. I'm making founders LOL. Great paint tutorial!
I used to paint my World Eaters with some select parts of the armor in black, since red, brass and black were always considered the colors of Khorne. So they all had a single piece of armor (but never the helmet) in black. This also added some variation to them, since I can't really imagine those maniacs caring about a coherent uniform color pattern.
Fantastic job! If the World Eaters were to get their own Kill Team rules, I would certainly pick some up. That said, I would have to tackle that detail in sub-assembly!
Bit late for the comment, but I love to see that you choose Mephiston red for the base armor color. Khorne red is a nice color, but not red enough if you know what I mean. But I would suggest Scorpion Brass rather than Runelord Brass for everyone who wants to make their zerkers (Or Khorne Miniatures in general) pop a bit more. Mephiston Red and Scorpion Brass work perfect together!
I've noticed that the "I'm using [paint], but if you're using Citadel you could use-" has been missing from recent videos. That was always super handy to me. Is it something thats been removed for a reason?
Yes, we have a conversion chart you can download from our website (www.duncanrhodes.com/ttc-paints/) and in the description of the video. The reason is, we found it become a little one toned and tedious to be honest and we felt it just flowed better this way 😊
I wish this information had been in the wild back when that first box of the old plastic berzerkers had come out. I, of course, went in the order of painting the red to completion then the trim. I caught myself rubbing my inner wrist, where I kept getting a cramp, while I watched this video. 🙄 🤣
nice paintjob and tips, but for me as someone who loves the WE and paints them. the khorne red is the colour of choice, but that is a personal preference .
I really wish there was a full time lapse. I really liked how this turned out but seeing the little adjustments and moments during the process that sometimes aren't planned or recovering from mistakes are often bigger jumps for people than the general colors combinations and sequencing.

You're really out done yourself this time, Duncan! Wow! So impressive! It's going to take forever to paint my new army following this technique. 😅 But it's going to look amazing! 😁
I love watching your videos and they really have truly taught me a lot and because of them. I have greatly improved on my painting skills. But with that said, when you do these videos and you use your TTC paints Could you at least also list an alternative for them since you can't actually buy your paint currently? Cause not all of us have access to be able to do the kickstarter.
Hey Duncan, thanks for the guide, about to paint these up soon. I have wave 1 + 2 of your paints so nice to see mostly those are used here. One question, how would using the TTC equivalents for runelord brass, canoptek alloy, and warp lightning compare? Would it be too dark/light or the wrong effect for this? Thanks
Really appreciate the repeated emphasis on "tabletop ready." "If you yourself are going berserk edge highlighting the trim AND you want an army painted before 11th edition... save it for characters!" Of course the highlights do look amazing...
Been watching your vids for a couple of years now, and i have to say, more than half my miniatures are painted after your tutorials. One question though, How come you do not age? You lookj the same as 6-7 years ago! Whats your secret?:P
I'm gonna do a bunch like this, but I want to portray how shattered the legion is, so I'll also do some different warbands as well. Are you going to convert the new Beastmen to Khorne worshippers?
Hi Duncan, First: Thanks for all your videos and content. It is really appreciated. I have a question and thought you are the best one to answer it. I plan to extend my Chaos army with a Chaos Knight. After I play Death Guard and Thousand Sons I thought to keep this one "neutral" regarding the color theme. So my Idea is to paint it mainly red and black. Like Your Khorne berserker here, but waht you have in gold should be balck in my case. My question: Do you have a recommendation to shade and work with red? I thought about mephiston red, then currogurg crimson and next wild raider red. What do you think?
Question, why not base the trim, leather, and bone, then clean up with Mephiston red? Wouldn't that be faster as you can be messier on the other parts?
Nice Guide. Looking for Lupercal Green (TTC), Lahmian Medium (TTC) and Kabalite Green (TTC) on the Conversion Chart. Can´t Find it. Am i blind? Help anyone
How would go about metallic armour spacewolves? I’m paint mine black primer then silver iron warriors but then I get bored of it due to lack of detail or somthing
when doing rivets, i cant seem to have just enough to do one or two, using a detail brush, wondering if my paint is to thin, afraid to do it to thick; but going back to get more just for one or two rivets causes inconsistency and is time consuming, i not sure how to figure that out, more practice i suppose
Hey man. I think a solution to your trouble could be to try using a brush that has a larger belly but still maintains a very sharp tip and form. I noticed this as well and came to this conclusion after experimenting with different brushes whilst trying to do extreme highlights with small sized detail brushes (even my expensive W&N Series 7). Raphael 8404s seem to be basically made for this task in my opinion. All sizes hold an incredible point with a beautiful reservoir that holds MUCH more paint. Even a size 1, or 2, could be used for something like this, and they do run quite large size wise in relation to other brands. The size #0 is probably my all time favorite and I can use it for virtually any task, with #1 being probably tied or just below it. #00 is rarely needed in my experience (because something like painting 2 eyeball dots on a humanoid mini I would just use any small pointed brush), as the tip of the others are just as sharp, though this could indeed be exactly what you are looking for, and is certainly a nice brush. Happy painting fren.
Can anyone tell me if this miniature would have been primed prior to the mephiston red base coat or is the mephiston red the primer? Ive been having issues with my other layers easily smearing off. I followed this tutorial but used a different hobby spray paint, perhaps it wasnt a primer
Pretty sure it’s just Mephiston red spray can over bare plastic. I’ve used citadel colored sprays as primers to good effect. The citadel ones act as a primer, though arguably inferior in that role compared to their black, but it shouldn’t be causing problems. What company did you use ? I also wash my minis and let them dry before spraying them to have a clean surface for the spray paint to stick to.
They are available in the UK and the EU (See list here: www.duncanrhodes.com/paint_stockists/) as for the US, these are packed and awaiting pickup at the Liverpool Factory
I've actually been using your old guide from about 7 years ago to paint my Khorne Berzerkers. I realize now I maybe should have used brass instead of gold. Meh.

Gotta say I love the new Runelord Brass and Canoptek Alloy metallic paints, they've become my go to for any gold/brass scheme.
