- Here I milk Nuala - she has surprized me very much - She has turned out to be a lovely little milking cow - she is calm and friendly , she has a wonderful udder - and she even makes good amounts of milk! Praise the Lord for sweet Nuala!

I'm thankful for the video on tying off the cows,
My Jersey calved last week and was being "All she can be" to put it nicely so tying her off was the trick 😉
Plus separating the calf.

Growing up on a cattle ranch we had two cows we milked. One was Flossy and one was Brownie.
Old Brownie was a gentle old cow. I would fill up a bucket of milk every morning.
Milking really makes your hand sore for the first week or more. After that you could get the bucket full of fresh natural milk. Heck they talk about organic food. That's all we had. We never used anything to make the chickens grow fast or any of our crops. We did use some 5% 7 dust to keep the worms from eating our tomatoes. The first rain the dust washed off.
We had about 3 1 acre gardens. We had corn, okra, peas, squash, watermelons and cantaloupe.
and fresh tomatoes. It was a lot of work but looking back at those days really taught me a lesson that many people these days haven't learned.
One thing about raising field corn. This is corn that is planted for cow feed or for harvesting.
As the corn matures there is only a 3 day window when you can take your thumb and push
it into the kernel of the corn easily. If you wait a day or two after that 3 day window closes the kernel gets too hard. Before the 3 day window the kernel is too mushy.
When you find you are in the middle of that 3 day window get to picking. Pick 400-500 ears of corn.
Shuck them, take the silk off, blanch in boiling water for about 6-8 minutes and then put the ears in ice water to stop the cooking process. You can freeze the ears or cut the kernels off and freeze them for winter use.

I have hand milked and also use a milking machine. I understand how spending time and getting close to your cows is very beautiful. I really liked Inger also, and I know butchering is a natural part of farming. Was there a particular reason? Mastitis or not able to calve?
Just curious.. As I know it is always a heartbreaker. Thank you for showing us a beautiful spirit and life. I live in Northern California, USA. Very different climate, so happy to see another part of the world and how you take care of your cows. Love it! Blessings...
Oh thank you dear Esther for this lovely comment! great to cennect with other cowlovers! yes Inger was a very special cow - she was 10 years and very worn by having been a dairy cow nearly all her life - so got mastitis easily. I felt it was the right thing to do - and did have a very beautiful "connection " with her up to the day she left. I have talked about it in a video about butchering - I felt very strongly she said to my heart that all is well and that she had opened a big door to the world through the first video we made - SOOO many people feel connected to her - and have opened their eyes to how important it is that we humans start to treat the animals with respect! I feel very grateful to have been so close to Inger for that while. I cry even while writing this - her loving energy IS so strong. I am sure she is around - in spirit - helping me with the others cows - and life in general!

When she drys off next, you should treat the warts to get rid of them. They are contagious as you state, they can be passed on to the calf as well, which can pass it on to the other cattle through play or trying to steal a suckle.

I always wanted to grow up and live on a farm and have a cow to milk haha! The closest I came was to live on a street called "Farmer Way." I lived there for 18 years. I had a huge cow collection throughout my home, some were gifts, some I made. So I enjoyed watching you with your sweet cows. Thank you for sharing. :)

You can slightly boil the milk and get sift cream. Drink milk and make yougurt. And from youghart Lassi and butter. From butter You can get Ghee which can be preserved for long time. Don't forget the fille which can be sold in the narket.

Grass - fresh green grass is the best food for a cow also herbs and branches are good for her health. If you wish to have more milk use some ground barley. Good luck my friend!
