बिहार के सिवान में स्थित बाबा महेंद्रनाथ का मंदिर श्रद्धालुओं के आस्था का केंद्र है। सावन हो या महाशिवरात्रि यहां भक्तों का सैलाब उमड़ पड़ता है। कहा जाता है कि मात्र दर्शन से बाबा सभी मनोकामना पूरी कर देते हैं। बाबा ने नेपाल के राजा के कष्ट को दूर कर दिया था। सिवान के मेंहदार में स्थित बाबा की कहानी पौराणिक और ऐतिहासिक है।
सीवान: देश-दुनिया के हर मंदिर के पीछे कोई न कोई कहानी छिपी है। यहां हम एक ऐसे शिव मंदिर के बारे में बता रहे हैं, जिसका निर्माण नेपाल के राजा महेंद्र ने कराया था। यह जगह है बिहार के सीवान जिले के मेंहदार में स्थित बाबा महेंद्रनाथ का मंदिर। सावन के महीने में और शिवरात्रि के दिन इस मंदिर में श्रद्धालुओं की भारी भीड़ जुटती है। बाबा महेंद्रनाथ के बारे में कहा जाता है कि यहां कोई भी सच्चे मन से आकर प्रार्थना करे तो उसकी सभी मनोकामना पूरी हो जाती है। खासकर यहां सावन और महाशिवरात्रि के दिन भक्तों का सैलाब उमड़ता है। बाबा के दर्शन के लिए भारी संख्या में भक्त यहां पहुंचते हैं। मंदिर प्रांगण में देश के अलावा पड़ोसी देश नेपाल से भी भारी संख्या में श्रद्धालु पहुंचते हैं। बाबा से अपनी मन्नत पूरी करने की अपील करते हैं। बाबा के दर्शन के बाद श्रद्धालुओं की सभी मन्नतें पूरी हो जाती हैं।
नेपाल के राजा महेंद्र ने बनवाया था मंदिर
नेपाल के राजा महेंद्र वीर विक्रम शाहदेव के नाम पर इस शिवालय का नाम पड़ा है। इसकी कहानी भी बड़ी रोचक है। मंदिर के पुजारी बताते हैं कि नेपाल के राजा महेंद्र को कोढ़ जैसी बीमारी हो गयी थी। कुछ लोग गंभीर किस्म के चर्म रोग की बात कहते हैं। वे अपने लाव लश्कर के साथ इलाज के लिए बनारस गये थे। वहां बीमारी ठीक नहीं होने पर निराश मन से वे नेपाल लौट रहे थे। लौटते समय जब वे मेंहदार पहुंचे तो रात हो गयी। उन्होंने वहां रात्रि विश्राम का निर्णय लिया। मेंहदार में एक तालाब था। राजा समेत उनके साथ चल रहे सभी लोग उसी तालाब के किनारे विश्राम करने लगे। रात में राजा को भोलनाथ का स्वप्न आया कि चिंता न करो। सुबह उठ कर जिस तालाब के किनारे सोये हो, उसी तालाब में स्नान करना। तुम्हारी बीमारी ठीक हो जाएगी। तालाब में स्नान के बाद किनारे एक शिवलिंग दिखेगा। उस पर जल चढ़ा देना। और हां, बीमारी ठीक होने के साथ ही यहां एक शिवालय बनवा देना।

The temple was built by King Mahendra of Nepal
This Shivalaya is named after King Mahendra Veer Vikram Shahdev of Nepal. Its story is also very interesting. The priest of the temple tells that King Mahendra of Nepal had a disease like leprosy. Some people say that it was a serious type of skin disease. He had gone to Banaras for treatment with his entourage. When his disease was not cured there, he was returning to Nepal with a disappointed mind. While returning, when they reached Mehandar, it was night. They decided to rest there for the night. There was a pond in Mehandar. All the people accompanying him including the king started resting on the banks of that pond. At night, the king had a dream of Bholanath that don't worry. After waking up in the morning, take a bath in the same pond on the banks of which you slept. Your illness will be cured. After taking a bath in the pond, you will see a Shivling on the bank. Pour water on it. And yes, as soon as your illness is cured, get a Shiv temple built here.
