Great series Chuck, thanks. I like the way you have shown us all the pitfalls and mistakes and how to work around them.

thank Paul, always my intent to try to help someone else with their own project. I'm still so very pleased with how this kayak finally turned out.

How's the VOC content? Seems like it might not be too strong since you're not wearing a respirator and you don't look like you're getting stoned... I have lots of TB Lust leftover from doing some wooden streetlamps for a neighbor, thinking of using some for a friend's big picture windowsill just for UV protection, but worried the fumes might be a bit much

Looks nice. Interesting about the room temp affecting the drying time that much. Can you make a guess about how many coats you could get from the tin? We really need to see her getting wet and being paddled.

oh my, I did the entire canoe outside and then bottom and now top of kayak with one can (quart) so that is probably around a dozen or so coats. It goes a long way, especially when thinned

You know what? I think that I miss numbered the episodes. I looked through my channel and I don't think that there is an episode 11. Ha, good catch on your part.

They should rename this product, crust, bust, or maybe Lies. Its fine when thinned, and you apply the first coat. From there on unless your a bad varnish product expert it gives nothing but problems. If you try to use multiple thinned coats it wont dry with a shine. This is the only way to get it not to go on too thick. If you use it unthinned and try the recommended 1 or a little more hour for recoats. The previous coat grabs the brush and you have to apply more and more to keep it flowing smooth to lay down. This presents a problem with it going on too thick and you end up with the skin layer and nothing under drying. Then also end up with a wrinkled skin problem. Thats the problems varnish of 30-40 years ago had.. I can't believe in all this time they haven't perfected varnish yet. I think the one hour recoat time this product claims is a gimmick and this characteristic ruins it. With this product being so thick, put it on thin as you can, let it dry completely, sand 320 grit. And then recoat over and over. Other than that you can used two thinned coats, then a normal coat as the last coat. Other than that stay away only use it for a refresher single top coat. Not for initial multiple coatings of bare wood, this stuff is terrble for that. In my picture was two thinned completely dried and sanded coats and the last coat was normal. It was completely smooth and perfect when i was done when i came back this is how it had dried.. another mystery reaction i havent figured out. And yes i used total boat brush thinner 101. Again stay away from this product theres way way better products out there.
