It's not often you get a close up view of a brand new megayacht like this. Built by Lurssen in Germany the mammoth vessel is one of the top 20 longest SuperYachts in the world.
Hope you enjoy the video.

Im glad i watched this review i am now cancelling my order due to the captains poor visibility issue .
Good move
the pole with the light on too. it seems like a bodge to fix a mistake. or is it a usual feature on unusual boats?
Planes can mostly be flown on instrumentation only, but that does not mean you want a billionaire to build a plane without windows...
They likely have blindspot cameras like many newer automobiles.
I've just cancelled my order. I have three helicopters. Do they think I'm going to make do with two like some poor person?
Very interesting analysis of that boat. I like it when you film mega yachts this way and give your explanations based on what you see. I hope you can make more videos of this kind in the future.
More to come!
Me too, nice job.
Some countries don't have ships that big in their Navy.
id probably say the majority of country's on earth dont have vessels that big in their navy
Big ships is not equal to efficient ships, for the navy
@@Denstoradiskmaskinen But obviously an indicator of high sea operational capability
@@jimmyarias123 Calm down internet cowboy.
All landlocked countries.
Absolutely gorgeous yacht. Thanks for bringing us fantastic commentary and coverage👍
I never had any interest in yachts , until I started watching your videos. I admire your lifestyle.
What a beautiful yacht... and thanks so much for videoing it for us. Great job as always.
Nice update thanks for sharing 👍🏼
What's wrong with it is that I'm not partying on it with a dozen bikini girls.....
Ask them if they want to see the roof inside.
They will be naked.
Bikini girls... hmmm 🤔 you mean girls like a daughter of Eugene Crabs, owner of Crusty Crabs from Sponge Bob Square Pants show from Bottom of Bikini Atoll??? 😂
@C K how does your mother look in a bikini?
Only a dozen? THINK BIG
Very interesting critique of this mega yacht. I’d love to see more videos like this.
That's just the new trend. The owners want the best visibility for themselves... give the captain a few hundred thousand in cameras to work with
Lets the captain know who's "not" in charge.
My thoughts exactly.
And there are no international rules to keep them from doing this, because usually nobody would do a stupid move like that...
.....for the owners convenience all we have to sacrifice is destruction of our life and limb ?
@@stephenhunter70 the owner decides where. But the captain still decides if.
Amazing yacht and even better commentary, thank you 😊
Great video beautiful ship:-):-):-)
Galaxy looking great !!!
AMAZING explanation, GREAT REPORT
WOW..you told me things I never knew in all the hundreds of yacht videos I have watched. thanks!
I like the format of this video! Great info!!!
I'm always very happy to view your videos. You give us a lot of information and I love it! Thank you very much!
Thank you for sharing!
Gave you a thumbs up for being a fellow scouser.
Plus, it was a nicely informed video.
I enjoyed watching this video. Thanks for posting.
Interesting info about the positioning of the bridge.
I really like the Flying Fox.
Not sure why I like her so much, I think it’s just her lines. She looks fresh and modern and it’s not boring white. I also like her nighttime lighting signature.
Also thanks for the geography education. I’ve actually travelled quite a lot in France but never heard of La Ciotat before, even though I’ve driven past the area many times on the Autoroute.
Once I figured out it’s spelling I found it alright 👍😄
Im in love whit Galaxy.... stunning
I like yachts that are 60 to 70 meters...even in my imaginary world that's big enough for me to live on!
bermudaguy1 40 meters(130 ft.) Is plenty big enough for me, but I see your point👍
@@kennyhuskisson2684 Actually, 130 ft is a good size. I guess from my perspective, living in Bermuda, the water can get pretty choppy at times and 200 ft+ would give more comfort and stability in more areas. Additionally, I think I could lease it for more during the 3 or 4 months that I'm not living on it.
bermudaguy1 Very true, bigger is always better when it comes to yachts & dealer waters👍✌
Im buying a 17 meter prestige flybridge !!
bermudaguy1 You are so modest :-D
Loved the video. Like always
Nice
Insane! Wow.
Lovely yaght
First critic comment I ever heard in the world of marine press. Congrats!!
I can't afford a BASS BOAT, but I Love Your channel..👍👍👍💪💪💪
Nice👍👍
Great video.
She's a beauty!
I saw two things wrong with it: One was the mast in the center of the helipad, but that was explained; the other is that it doesn't belong to me.
VERY informative ......
You are fantastic!
What a beauty.
Flying Fox is no doubt one of the favorites in the world right now!
my favorite looking mega yacht is still Bravo Eugenia.
A very interesting video indeed - and with one quick question. Do you happen to know the actual legal requirements pertinent unto the location of the forward mast? For instance, how far forward of the main mast, or superstructure lights, and how high does it have to be? Thanks again, Geoff Rohde
Magnificent.
How much do cameras and remote piloting stations make up for the bridge placement?
eSysman:
How does Kusch Yachts in Germany compare to the La Ciotat shipyard?
Kusch is also a repair/refit business but is Kusch more of a manufacturing (building mega-yachts) business?
How do the two businesses compare?
I think (from memory) Kusch works with Oceanco also.
The position of the bridge is probably the reason for the two FLIR units, and I think those Flir units are supposed to be a complete sensor suite, not just thermal
ITS AMAZING...AT THAT WEIGHT....IT CAN FLOAT !!!!!!!
LOVE THE SWIM PAD!!!
The location of the bridge makes a mockery of maritime safety, which I suppose is why nearly half a million dollars worth of cameras are fitted to enable the bridge crew to regain some of the visibility lost by the bizarre placement of the bridge!
Its a private vessel, so in terms of real estate, the best view is saved for the owner. That his priority and fair enough really.
Yes.
Surprising they don't use that beautiful swim platform very often. Thanks for another great vid. I like how honest your and tell us what the antennas are likely used for and why. They always remind me of the Star Destroyers in Star Wars. Wonder who had the dome antennas first, yachts or star wars?
They were on land first, but there are 70s research ships with ginormous ones the size of a house
Cool video, stunning boat....commentary really helpful in explaining what's what - thanks !
I’m sure the owners and the whole team behind the build aren’t stupid. If this is how it was designed and build, it surely works for everyone. They have a barrage of cameras to assist them so I doubt there is any issue.
Impressive channel! Thanks!
Have you discussed the shipyards? Why inland? Are large yachts challenging the current yards during construction and maintenance?
I can't even afford the camera after a few years of savings hahaha
I can't even afford to watch this video bro LOL
Well even in cheap cars u have 360Degree cameras - surely the visibility problem is solved on a couple of hundred million yacht....
My thoughts exactly
I was just gonna say if it has two flir cameras i am pretty sure it has a host of other cameras giving it a video display of everything around it.
@@richardberglund4765 yeah if it's got $400k+ in FLIR, I'm sure there are hundreds of other cameras on this boat. Both for navigation and security
No worries! All these vessels have an external maneuver set in the bulwark, if it rains or snow the owners are warm and comfortable inside, it comes with the captain’s salary😉
@@fernandofernando7710 I dont see how that helps with the visibility? Or did you post on the wrong thread?
Always has to be a seagull sitting on the vsat;)
🤣 😹 On such a boat you can never be alone
Like i am in my forest
Subscribed. Nice video
What a boat! I understand your criticism about the captain not having higher visibility but won't those HUGELY expensive thermal imaging cameras not do that for them?
could the camera system act to provide additional visibility perhaps? like those top-down composite view parking cameras on high end cars?
There's a lot of camera's on the exterior of the vessel to compliment the situational awareness on the bridge as well as wing stations. New yachts use a FOIL bridge set up with lots of automation and redundant back-ups. I'm an Electrical Designer for a large yacht builder, this is my area of expertise.
Are training requirements rigorous in using the new automation? Or are the controls intuitive? I am an old pirate set in my ways with a 18th Century monocular.
@@gmb858 it really makes your job easier and with more precision. You probably will miss the direct feedback through your hands but you learn to use the feedback from your feet. It makes your bridge clean and ergonomical with screens that you can display whatever layout you can desire. We do something really cool with all of the traditional control back-ups and systems. So if you really want them or need them they're right at your fingertips. They kind of pop out at you 😉
@@christopherpeninger324 are all-glass bridge controls viable? It would require full array LED screens that can dim to true black at night
@@visionist7 the control surface is not an LED screen. It's glass with a custom etched control surfaces that mimic the actual controls. Think Star Trek: The Next Generation bridge. The view screens, Radar, AMS, Chart, etc. are LED.
@@christopherpeninger324 I see. With this does one FINALLY somewhat get full Bridge/Engine Room integration? Or is this a goal that remains to be seen???
Love
They made the dry dock into two ,so they can have full size or like in the video in half , its works really well for long term and short term refits at the same time
Good fishing boat
More interested in that little wave piercing tri parked next to it :D
More of it here Klingons Land in SuperYacht Marina! ua-cam.com/video/AJPud_DK-WU/v-deo.html
This yacht is 3.5 million euros a week to charter. And it has a crew of 54 for 25 guests
A crew of 54? Am I renting people or a yacht?
to me it looks like the ship has a steerin wheel at the top. is it just for show, or is that maybe for the captain to navigate the ship?
Is the design flaw the Pilot wheel on the lowest deck? As opposed to the deck right above it??
I wouldn't call it a design flaw.
I'm not so certain that this is IS NOT the "Design Flaw." If this is not it, what IS the flaw? And particularly for owners that love to take the wheel of their own boats? (AND THERE ARE PLENTY!). Just as we know plenty on here who do not give a DAMN about the comfort - or - even the safety features within the wheelhouse. Right? However, how easy it would be to use this exact same design of vessel and REMOVE the design flaw? No?
Paul J. Sweeney I think you have nailed the Design Flaw with exact zprecision, sir! And how easy it would be to correct in its first refit, even!!!
Visibility problem ? Install two $200,000 FLIR cameras, mounted high on the mast. That's how billionaires solve problems.
She's as heavy as a 'tween war "treaty cruiser!" for example the USS PENSACOLA was 9100 tons! Also, I'm assuming the two grey domes you didn't mention are INMARSAT-C and the other white ones INMARSAT-B??
You where there same time I was onboard in La Ciotat I see.
I would like one but will never in my live time have one. But what a amazing boat
Супер люкс!
Maybe the expensive Flir cameras are to mitigate the Bridge’s restricted view, are they stereoscopic? Great video as always.
Is the technology really reliable enough for this?
No they would not be a replacement for line of sight.
The two FLIR cameras are there to enhance their situational awareness, but they are by no means the only navigation camera systems this ship would have on it.
Hello from Canada
I saw that thing being docked in Wilhelmshaven (Northern Germany) a at the shipyard for some time (quite a few big yachts go there actually)
This video does not do it justice, that ship is fucking HUGE
I would have placed the bridge right at the very top where that small round open snug is. Maybe even have the curved windows slide open 220 degrees to give an open bridge in fair weather. Of course there wouldn't be room for more than 3 or 4 crew members up there, and the Captain's & Quartermaster's cabins would eat into the limited space available so high up.
Still better than a bridge which looks onto a long, broad helideck
At what point does a personal boat become a cruise ship?
The border is 12+ guests then it has to apply for cruise permits but i think only to some and the real private yacht to cruise ship is 25 guests + then it HAS to have full cruise permits and all the paper work.
6EQUJ5!!! That's practically a cruise ship!!!
Enorme !
I think it's very rare that that bridge will get any use comming into a port as you can see it's got remote bridge wing controls so I presume they use that when
Arriving and leaving port
It does have wing stations for docking after all.
Wow,would love this
What happens if you crash a Megayacht ? I mean in general what happens with all the due processes but also what happens to the captain that crashed it ? From worst case being it hits another vessel drowns that one along with itself to just scratching it or something.
Your video was very interesting. Thanks
💖💖💖
Actually the bridge should be in the bilge. That way you have easy access to the manual sonar ( hammer against hull)
Nice drone shots and well used, it is a bit of a clic bait ( more details if possible ) but i like your videos.
That trimaran looks fascinating. Need a review of it!
Looks like one of those filthy hippie vessels, you know like the one in whale wars...
It's called Galaxy of Happiness, there are plent of videos about it here on UA-cam
whats the current 2020 epic yacht ? the longest , biggest yacht currently ?
Captain Lee could handle it!
After doing a quick search on amazon, I noticed in your videos super yacht fenders are very different than what is sold on amazon for smaller boats. How much do super yacht fenders weigh and what are they made of? Who sells this type of thing?
They are made of hypalon like a RIB , they weigh about 30kgs for thr big ones. To buy them, Hippo fender, Fender Innovation or superyatchtoys.com
I hope this can help. 😊
it's in my area now,it's just huge. So,who is the owner ???
does it have a anti-piracy system?
Personally if I were a Captain, I would always prefer a "natural view" window over the "electronic windows" just relying on electronics to maintain operability. But hey, if they agree that it's a problem and wish to get rid of the ocean hazard of limited visibility, I'll make a standing offer of $300 U.S. !!! I wouldn't want them to be blind on the open water, so I'd just keep it anchored in the Caribbean safe and sound. But I'm kinda thinkin' they covered the visibility issue with those 2 little FLIR cameras, plus a few other toys !
It seems there was a huge job on the stern, the paint on that part looks darker than the rest of the body, I noticed that in other videos
So M/Y Flying Fox is the 5th gen camaro of yachts.
Front pad will be a touch and go. Rear pad is where the owners machine will sit, so in the main the front pad is free and empty.
So you don't think there are controls on the very top deck?
What camera drone do you use?
Mavic 2 Zoom
good point on the bridge limitations, that's an accident waiting to happen.
A airlines have debated for years whether or not to get rid of windows entirely, so I imagine they have no problems seeing where they are going and what is in there way better than any window no matter where it is located.
@@elcajondavid1 Wonder how many pilots have been included in that conversation. Bean counters sometimes don't have a clue.
The only problem I could see with this extravagance is that it's not mine. I'd sell it in a heartbeat, and live like a king forever
Great video. Is the Flying Fox a Lurssen?
Yes
It is
I have a high school chum who works at Moran Yacht & Ship, his name is Kevin Callaghan, do you him by any chance? @@eSysmanSuperYachts
Found it; Project "Shu" page 90 of the January 2019 BOAT issue. Four hundred and forty six feet. Exterior design by Espen Oino. The name is interesting if you follow gematria. Flying = 73 = Mason, Fox = 666 = Mark of the Beast. Ships of this size are being built for one reason only - refuge. From what? I can guess, but do you.......?
Ik zou wel mee willen lekker visje vangen maar ik zie geen hengels 😹🤣🏴☠️
Great Point,That Captain isnt goona like that viewing positions.
I know that this is an older video but I winder when you give the stats. These 'super' yachts are longer and heavier than WW11 warships. This tonnage would be approaching a heavy cruiser.
