On May 31, Momoko gave birth to a baby girl, and on the following day, June 1, Momoko seemed to have appeared with her baby at the exhibit. This episode was taken on June 2, the following day, when I came to the zoo, hoping to see the baby and the troop. However, Momoko and the baby were nowhere to be seen that day. I was thinking they could be resting at the off-exhibit because Momoko was probably exhausted from delivery. At that time, Momoko's severe anemia was not announced to the public.Due to the absence of Momoko and the baby, the troop was upset throughout the episode. Haoko was pacing back and forth to check the gate to the off-exhibit, was trying to make a nest with straw, and beat his chest four times in this video. It is not a happy episode, but you will see a number of rare behaviors exhibited by the troop. The viewer discretion is kindly advised.
According to the zoo, Momoko’s condition has been improving, and the baby has been growing well. You can find the latest information about Momoko and the baby through my community tab. (Link above)

Very sad to see how the family felt on that day. there you realize how sensitive, emotional and intelligent gorillas are, that's why I love these primates so much. Thank you Karin for sharing us. 🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Alina for watching and for your comment!😊🙏
Whew! This is a tear jerker! I got as far as the “Making the nest for Momoko” question and the tears started to flow! Too late for crying so I will watch the rest tomorrow! Did you think it was odd that Momoko wasn’t there coupled with Haoko’s behavior? I forget that you guys are there longer and see more then we could ever see. It must of been hard for the rest of the troop seeing and feeling their Silverback’s frustration. Thank you for the thoughtful message at the beginning of the video Karin🙏🏽🫶🏽
Hello MySkinnydip. Sorry to make your eyes teary before sleeping. Hope your eyes weren't swollen this morning. On the previous day, June 1, when Momoko and the baby showed up at the exhibit, I didn't go to the zoo because I thought she would be exhausted from giving birth. So, when I came to the zoo on the following day, I was a bit disappointed with their absence, but at the same time I was thinking they were just resting at the indoor room. I never imagined the mother and the baby were separated.🥲 Thank you for your comment!🙏
I can't believe how skinny Hoako still is. From being the biggest and who weighed the most out of Japan's silvers to now 49lbs. lighter because of his worry for his wife and daughter. It's just amazing how similar to a human dad would mourn in the same way. I'm so glad mom and baby are doing better, hopefully Hoako will put his weight back on soon.
Haoko was a bit overweight before Momoko became sick, and after losing weight he looks a lot like Shabani. But yes, he can put his weight more for his well-being. Thank you nina for watching! 😊
Their family order and routine is very important to their peace.Dealing with Momoko's absence and the missing baby without seeing them (at this time), must have been such a heavy burden of uncertainty on Haoko. Then for the kids& Toto to see Haoko so upset must have been a domino effect on them.Thank you Karin for documenting this, as hard as it must of been to observe it.Very emotional. Glad the family can see Momoko and the baby peach everyday now.🧡🦍🌻🍑🌄💚🌻
Thank you Lynn for your kind comment. Yes. The family's happiness truly depends on the silverback's wellbeing. I love how you call the baby "baby peach"🍑.😃👍
Very well done, sweet Haoko! You are a great dad and husband!🥰
Yes. He is a great dad and husband.👍Thank you Elisabeth for watching!😊
This is heart wrenching. Do we truly know mom and wee one are scheduled to return to the troop in Sept? I so hope so. It will certainly be a happy day for Haoko, all Momoko’s children, and Toto. Karin, thank you for all you share with us.
The zoo hasn't announced the date of returning them to the troop. According to the zoo director, the zoo is planning to return the baby to Momoko first. This process might take a little bit of time. Thank you Kate for watching and for your comment!😊
Handsome Haoko is obviously uneasy. He doesn't drum often but today he decides to tell his family and visitors he is THE boss around there. As for the nest making I also think he is making it for Momoko and the baby in order to provide them with warmth and protection. Little did he know that Momoko and the baby won't be back until September.
He's good as shabani , when he's drumming his chest 😊👏👏👏
Thank you Camelia for watching and for your warm comment.😊 Yes, I also thought he was drumming to warn visitors and invisible enemies that he is the boss and they can't get any closer.😉
@@may_laytrucker3127 That's true. They drum so beautifully.
Thanks Karin , without you and your most informative and compassionate videos . Viewers would not see these wonderful majistic creatures joy , pain , suffering ,and funny moments . They need the world to be on their side . Personally I relate to alot of what they go and are going through . Such strength they have , very smart , patient, loving , funny ect, ect. That 98.6 percent húman instincts makes me emotional . Thanks Karin . Be Bless sweetie ✨♥️✨
Thank you Joyce for watching this long video. And I appreciate your kind comments. Gorillas are so relatable to me too. I know they are animals but they are so special to me probably because they are one of our closest relatives.😊
It's heart-wrenching observing the obvious torment Haoko is suffering through. It just makes me weep watching every video seeing him in such anxiety not understanding what and why his wife and new born have not returned.
Watching him making a bed in the favored spot of Momoko... Whew! Gut wrenching and beautiful at the same time.
We love you all the more Haoko!🦍❤
Thank you Dana for watching the video even thought it was such a heart wrenching one. And I appreciate your comment!😊🙏
Iam lost for words . It speaks volumes 😍👍 Just want to see a speedy recovery and reunion . Like yesterday ✨♥️✨
Thank you Joyce for your warm comment!😊
Whew...I almost didn't get to the end of this one. I've never seen a Silverback express so much emotion and sadness. It always amazes me that people can easily mistreat animals thinking they don't have feelings. But this gut wrenching video proves that is not true. Im sure some of this behavior is instinctive. but to me it looked like pure emotion. Im so glad Momoko is back with the troop now.
Thank you Renee for watching this long footage of Haoko building a nest. Haoko is very rich in emotions. That makes him very charming.😊
My heart is just breaking for him and the troop 💔. I am so incredibly happy that they are able to see each other again at least through the gates. Haoko was so stressed during the few days after looking for his wife and baby.
Thank you Sammy for watching the video and for your kind comment.😊🙏
He is certainly one of the best Gorrila Silverbacks . In everything that he do and feels . Fabulous display i 👍😍😘🌷
Thank you Joyce for your comment. I have to tell Haoko that people are now realizing his greatness.😉
You tell this story very well Karin.

That’s exactly what I was thinking!!!! A bed for baby & mom 😳👍🏼😃
Thank you Robin for your comment.😊
Haoko, was putting his heart and soul into building that nest lol, wonder was he thinking " if I build this nest, will Momoko come back?" 🤔😅 he can see Momoko this time?
I thought exactly the same! He might have wanted to impress Momoko so she wouldn’t leave him.🥲It seems the zoo prioritizes bonding the mother with the baby first. But I’m sure he can still watch them through the barred gate.
I love this Silverback he is one of my favorites but I love them all but this Nest that he's making it looks like a nest that a mom makes for her baby looks like he's making it for the mom and the baby it's too sweet how they just love each other I just love this this troop I love them
Thank you Judy for watching and for your warm comment. Yes. It was very sweet of him to build the nest for Momoko and the baby.😊

Are Momoko and the baby returning to the troop in September, Karin?
The zoo hasn't announced when they are to be returned. According to the zoo director, the zoo is now planning to return the baby to Momoko first. So this process will take a little bit of time, I guess.
@@ZoosForConservation Thank you
Haoko I think is expressing his frustration with the zookeepers for taking Momoko and his baby away. Whatever is happening to Haoko will naturally effect the rest of the troop. Take for example Momotaro's illness and how it affected the sons. Little Kintaro was losing so much weight that the keepers had to put him in a room to eat with Momotaro so Kintaro was able to see him and feel secure. And Gentaro was calling out to Momotaro and very distressed also.
Thank you Jo for watching the video and for giving an example of how there will be a domino effect on the rest of the family. Momotaro's sickness really affected badly to the boys. Luckily this troop has more ladies. It seems they are tougher than boys.
Hello Karin, I heard wild gorillas can make the nest but why Haoko he can makes?
I'm not an expert, so I can't tell why, but I think captive gorillas also make a nest. I saw RIki doing the same thing in the other video I uploaded. Thank you Pingping for watching!
@@ZoosForConservation Oh thank you, maybe It's an instinctive.
Sitting there waiting for her..why is she still inside and not out with the family it's been 3 months now..
Thank you Roxanna for watching. I’m sharing the zoo’s updates in my community tab. FYI.😉
I feel so bad for the troop. Don't you worry Haoko. They'll be back soon. This big guy is extremely sad. Ugh, my eyes are watery😔

Sence mama has been sick and not with the troop papa has aged and lost a lot of weight and body mass.they need to let mama out once in awhile with them. If she is better like I have heard..it's been 3 months now.
Hello Roxanna. Thanks for your comments. Haoko is calm now since he can see Momoko almost all the time through the barred gate. Now the zoo has shifted to the process of returning the baby to Momoko. So this will probably require a little while for them to bond well. 😊
He wants his wife and child back so bad.
That's true. Thanks for watching!😊
