Thank you from Germany for that wonderful song and video. Gonna order that CD-R. (And thanks for the subtitles, I can translate them via youtube. That helps a lot to understand the songs meaning.)
Tentative, unofficial translation of The High School Life of Mine (Watashi no Koukou Seikatsu):
The lambs flock to the morning homeroom. (Kohitsuji atsumaru asa no hoomu ruumu) The homeroom teacher says, (Tannin ga hanasu) "We are now going to hold a brief ceremony and say goodbye." (Kore kara kann-i teki ni okonai owakare desu) Practices of the graduation ceremony have been as tedious as marathons, (Jikyuusou teido ni wa mendou nanoni) And I have participated in them even when I had a bad cold, (Kaze nimo makezu sanka shita renshuu mo) Which proves to be in vain. (Muda ni naru noka) The homeroom teacher hands out the graduation albums that were supposed to be given three days later. (Mikka go ni watasareru hazu no arubamu Tannin ga kubaru) The class is buzzing. (Zawatsuku kurasu) "Are we still having the after-party as planned?" "Are we inviting the teacher?", (Uchiage wa yotei doori yaru? Sensei mo yobu?) Shouts the usual high-pitched voice from around the "Light-novel" table. (Ranobe seki Atari kara itsumo no kandakai koe) This is the last time I'll hear that voice. (Kiku no mo koremade ne) Also today is the last day wearing this school uniform. (Seifuku kiru no mo kyou kagiri da) Fate is to be accepted as such. (Unmei wa sou ukeireru monode) What? You guys wanted to cry so badly at the graduation ceremony? (Nani? Minna sonnani nakitakatta no sotsugyou shiki de) You guys wanted to make memories of the graduation ceremony? (Omoide ga hoshii no, sotsugyou shiki de) This is how my graduation ceremony is suddenly canceled. (Totsuzen nakunatta watashi no sotsugyoushiki)
We got the graduation booklet with the album. (Arubamu to issho ni moratta Sotsugyou sasshi) The committee introduces our dear members of 3rd grade, Class 4 in the form of a quiz. (Sannen yonkumi yukaina nakama Kuizu keishiki de iinkai kara goshoukai) There are 29 nicknames. (Nijuu kyuu no nikkuneemu) Let's see if I can find myself, for I have plenty of time now. (Sagashite miruka hima da shi) Huh? None of these apply to me, am I forgotten? (Are? Dore mo atehamara nai kedo Wasure rareta ka?) Oh here it is, here's my answer: (Atta atta, watashi no kotae wa) Neither "Churchy" nor "Apathetic" nor "Sluggish" nor "Devoted" nor "Fake" nor "Adventurous" nor "Philosophical" nor "Greedy", but (Kyoukai kei demo naku, Mukiryoku, Yasumitagaaru demo naku, Shinshoku wasure, Ikasama, Daibouken, Tetugakukei, Butsuyoku joshi demo nakute,)
"Hardworker." (Ganbariyasan)
"Hardworker." What have I worked hard? ("Ganbariyasan" Watashi nani wo ganbatta no darou) "Hardworker." Have I done anything to deserve that? ("Ganbariyasan" Watashi nani ka ganbatta no darou ka) "Hardworker" What have I been working towards? Tell me. ("Ganbariyasan" Watashi nani ni ganbatta no kana Oshiete) "Hardworker." Hardworker is graduating from high school today. ("Ganbariyasan" Ganbariyasan Kyou sotsugyou shimasu)
An album, a booklet, a bouquet of roses, and one more thing. (Arubamu to sasshi to bara no hana to mou hitotsu) The words on the report card: 'Liberation from this domination, isn't it?' (Uketotta seisekihyou ni kakarete ita kotoba ‘Kono shihai kara no kaihou desu ne’) So that's what you mean, isn't it, my dear homeroom teacher? (Sou iu koto desu yone tannin) I know, I know, then I close it right away. (Wakatte masuyo to sugu ni tojita) But what I don't know is my nickname in the class. (Wakaranai no wa Kurasu no naka no watashi no nikkuneemu)
Neither "Small Animal" nor "Exemplary" nor "Gyaruko" nor "Girly" nor "After-school part-timer" nor "Handsome tomboy" nor "Subculture" nor "Sporty" nor "Meddler", not those things at all, but "Hardworker." (Shou doubutsu kei, Mohan teki joshi, Gyaruko, Joshi ryoku takame joshi, Houkago baito joshi, Ikemen, Sabukaru, Supootsu, Deshabari, Sonna no de wa nakute, Ganbariyasan)
The white schoolhouse shimmers and today it looks so beautiful as always. (Masshiro na kousha wa Kyou mo kirei ni hikatte mieta) From inside the schoolhouse, (Manabi ya no naka kara) If you look out there, (Soto wo nagamete mitara) What you'll find is your high school life. (Sore ga koukou seikatsu)
"Hardworker." I'm going home alone today, too. ("Ganbariyasan" Kyou mo hitori de kaeru) "Hardworker." On the path I've chosen. ("Ganbariyasan" Watashi ga eranda michi wo) "Hardworker." What have I worked hard? ("Ganbariyasan" Watashi nani wo ganbatta no darou) "Hardworker." Have I done anything to deserve that? ("Ganbariyasan" Watashi nani ka ganbatta no darou ka) "Hardworker" What have I been working towards? Tell me. ("Ganbariyasan" Watashi nani ni ganbatta no kana Oshiete) "Hardworker." Hardworker is graduating from high school today. ("Ganbariyasan" Ganbariyasan Kyou sotsugyou shimasu)
I've only just seen this translation having just finished one myself. If I'd seen this first, I probably wouldn't have bothered spending three days doing mine! Good work! :D
@@cpa2788 Hope this helps. Also hope your three days have been a fruitful experience as a profound interaction with the lyric :D . I also did the same thing on "Happy Ending Just For Me" of 3776 Extended so check it if you please ua-cam.com/video/b_c5T_6TJQo/v-deo.html
@@hypersomnia2463 I completed my translation (mine and 3 very helpful Japanese friends) and posted I the .srt file off to the 3776 FB group yesterday. Although I've been enjoying the song since late May, when I began to understand the lyric, it became quite touching for me. I didn't cry as such, but I certainly felt emotional. Obviously, my translation is a little different from yours, but not so very much. I used a little bit of artistic license on the nicknames, and there are a couple of subtleties in yours that I missed. It's a great song, one of my 3 favourite 3776 / Chiyono Ide songs. Another of those 3 is 'Happy Ending Just For Me', so I'm delighted that you've also translated that one, and that I don't have to! My other favourite song is that 20 minute epic on the B-side of 'Love Letter', "Spacetime Love Letter - To You in the Post-Great Eruption World", which I have on vinyl.
@@cpa2788 Thank you for sharing your heartfelt comment. As for me, I literally cried while translating :D, particularly around the first appearance of the word Ganbariyasan. This song is filled with the annotation of the previous songs of Ide Chiyono (such as "lambs", "light novel" etc), which are going to be contained in the new album (My High School Life or The High School of Mine), I regret I didn't have a sufficient space to translate those relationships, but I am going to tackle it when the album comes out. Now I am under translating the previous album (The High School Life Coming Soon) here (seesaawiki.jp/almanac/ ) after having completed Saijiki lyrics. To name 3 from all Minanaro/Chiyono Ide/Team M-II works is too hard to choose ("Wakutamaike Dayori" from Team MII, "I want to climb with you/Kimi to issho ni noboritai" from 3776 season#1, "Neutral" from 3776 season#2, "Spring has come/Haru ga kita" from 3776 season#3, "To beautiful me/Kirei na Watashi ni" from 3776 season#4 MONO mode...etc.) but actually my most favorite is "Spacetime Love Letter - To You in the Post-Great Eruption World"(, particularly the second half of the song), which is top on my list of my translation project.
@@hypersomnia2463 I look forward to seeing your work on that one. I was delighted when I found the vinyl of 'Love Letter'. That was perhaps my best buy on my visit to Japan in 2018, but I was also pretty pleased at getting 3 x You'll Melt More 12" EPs too. Sadly, I couldn't find any other 3776 releases to buy at all. Worse, I travelled to a 3776 gig at Meguro while I was there and couldn't find the venue! :D
It should release on Ototoy (high res music purchasing platform) as the last 9th volumes of 季刊井出ちよの releases are available there now. Just a matter of time in my understanding.
