  • 8 February 1990, first appearance of Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha on Bulgarian TV. Less than 3 months after the beginning of the collapse of Communism - the resignation on 10th November of Todor Zhivkov, who ruled the country for more than 30 years.
Simeon II is one of the last living heads of state from the World War II time and the only monarch in history to return to a position of power through democratic elections. His election victory came after 50 years of exile.
In February 1990, popular Bulgarian TV presenter Kevork Kevorkian travelled to Madrid to interview Simeon for his weekly show "Vsyaka Nedelya" ("Each Sunday").
When asked by Kevorkian whether he'll ever consider any claims for property his family lost under Communism, Simeon II seems upset, "Against my country?! Never."
Various estates that had been nationalized under Communism were returned to the Bulgarian royal family, mainly while Simeon served as Prime Minister of Bulgaria, 2001-2005.

King Simeon loves Bulgaria and the Bulgarians. His social policy may have failed but he tried to do whatever he could to improve the well-being of Bulgarians. I think that he has been misunderstood by the Bulgarians. After all, who does not make mistakes? Long live the King!

    dear Bulgaria
I wish for you the same fortune as in Scandinavia!
WE have had a lot of material goods, but we never forgot our SOUL!
We are a kingdom, and we are PROUD!
    Its all about identity!
I recommend; have a king¨who looks back & and a parlament who looks forward!...
Do you think the Scandinavian counttries have done bad ?

Very wise words! Bulgaria would be far better off with a constitutional monarchy - as would Romania (with the truly great King Mihai) and Serbia!

Уместно е да се напомни към уводния текст на качилия клипа, че по мнението на авторитетни специалисти възстановяването на "собствеността" на самоотреклия се бивш цар е противозаконно и е извършено от наследниците на комунистите със съвършено прозрачна цел.

Thanks, but no thanks! Bulgarians, before the Great powers imposed on them monarchy, have fought for a republic! If you feel fine under monarchy, then it's great for you. But we are different and no Bulgarian citizen should be the subject of another human being.

Why do you wish for Bulgaria the same fortune as Scandinavia? Scandinavia is dark cold and produces bad food ingredients. The roses, the sun, the scents, the colors and the food ingredients of Bulgaria are infinitely better.
