- I was so sadden to learn of the death of Barbara Billingsley yesterday.
I had gotten to know Barbara over the years through my management of Isabel Sanford. In the 1990's when "TV mothers" were all the rage, it seemed like every other week, Isabel and I would find ourselves on a plane or sharing a limo with Barbara, June Lockhart and Marion Ross in one combination or another. There were trips to New York together; there were television sitcom appearances together; there were talk show appearances together; and there were a ton of local charity event appearances together.
What a joyous time; what a wonderful person to get to know; what an entourage we all made.
I never saw Barbara be anything less than gracious and friendly to anyone who approached her for her autograph or to talk about "the Beaver" or just in the day-to-day routine of business and life.
There are many highlights of my association with her, none the least of which is when she agreed to sit down and chat over a cup of coffee on my coffee shop cable talk series "Lemack & Company Live" in 1991.
Soon the entire interview will be available to view on RerunIt.com. In the meantime, we have hastily pulled together four minutes of clips from that interview, including Barbara's take on going against typecasting and speaking "jive" in the hilarious 1980 feature film "Airplane."
With much appreciation ... enjoy.
What a beautiful, charming woman. Thank you!
The most beautiful mother, and the sweetest, in TV or movie history! What an angel!
She has this beautiful all American mother image of love, beauty and sincerity.
What a beautiful woman! RIP
She seemed so down to earth and nice.
Barbara Billingsley such a nice lady!.
One of the best things about that show was that they did not dumb the parents down.
I love this woman😃🌻👼 she was so good in leave it to Beaver and I just watch the show every single day on peacock just to experience those years that I didn't get to be in cuz I was born in 71
Barbara Billingsley was an Icon.
She should have gotten a Oscar for that scene 😂🔥
That was not a good scene. This was nothing but stereotypes. Black people have the ability to speak well without slang. There should have been a black character who was not portraying this type type of character. I guess the writers of the show never spent much time talking to people of other races.
@Nelson Robert Willis Stereotypes are not funny. You are not being stereotyped, I can see how certain people may think this is okay. If this was something that affected you, you would not think it was funny. I was not born when the show was on the air. I have not seen the film, and I never said anything about the number of black people in the film. I do not care. Have you ever had a conversation with a black person without expecting them to use slang?
@Nelson Robert Willis I do not want to know you. Go away!!!!! Goodbye!
@Nelson Robert Willis Go away!
Loved her in airplane
Barbara Billingsley was a class act! Her wardrobe as June Cleaver was unusual for a mom at home, but her fit and flare dresses were perfect for her!
Barbara was Hysterical talking “jive”
She was so sweet and funny.... 😀
I think June Cleaver would say: "Guys, don't you think you're being a little hard on the interviewer?" Yes, he had a mullet, but so did I and many others! I actually thought he was very personable and did a good job!
😊😊😊😊😊😊🎉
Barbara Billingsley was not typecast until Leave It To Beaver. She appeared in many many movies and TV shows before her gig on Leave It To Beaver. In fact, in one movie she played a duplicitous jewel thief!
This interviewer is ridiculously rude, but BB handled it with grace!
I’m all for manners. I didn’t see anything rude in this interview.
@@moemcgovern7345 It was the mullet.
😍😍☀️🏡🤩🥰❤️🌟
The mullet was so popular in the 80s' as evidenced by the this video.
BB was lovely but what was up with that guy's hair?
Why did Leave it to Beaver move to ABC the second season? did CBS not have a time slot anymore?
I was thinking the same thing... what was up with the hair?
she says "just hang loose blood she goin to catch up on the rebound on the med side" rebound means shes coming back. He then says "what it is big mama my mama didnt raise no dummies I dug her rap" what he is saying---- he understands real english that he knew what the stewardess said.
What the heck is up with the video, shaking all over the place?
Now Wally.....You know you can't leave The Beaver alone...
You was a little hard on the beaver wasn't you ward!!😅😅😆
is that a mullet?
The only guy with worse hair than Donald Trump...
like obama's was so wonderful
Mullets were still in style. To have one in the 80's or early 90's wouldn't have been the subject of mockery on the same level that Trump's hair is now.
Trumps hair is like a Jive Turkey, Wait, Trump is a Jive Turkey Jack !!
What a mop of hair!!
There were a lot of lessons to be learned about life from that show. that is what Ireally like about it.
