About R15S
Yamaha R15S is a sports bike available in only 1 variant. R15S price starts at Rs. 1,97,231 in India. The Yamaha R15S is powered by 155cc BS6 engine which develops a power of 18.1 bhp and a torque of 14.2 Nm. With both front and rear disc brakes, Yamaha R15S comes up with anti-locking braking system. This R15S bike weighs 142 kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 11 liters.
India Yamaha Motor has updated its portfolio with the launch of the new YZF-R15S V3.0 in our market. This new variant of the motorcycle uses a single-piece step-up seat instead of the split-style unit on the YZF-R15 V4.0. The motorcycle is available in a single paint option - Racing Blue.
Yamaha says that while the YZF-R15 V4.0 is being appreciated by customers across India, the company’s research has shown that the buyers want a more viable option to commute with a pillion, without having to compromise on the Racing DNA of the YZF-R15.
The mechanical specifications retain the 155cc, four-stroke, liquid-cooled, SOHC, four-valve engine Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) setup. Linked to a six-speed gearbox, the motor delivers 18.34bhp of maximum power at 10,000rpm and 14.1Nm of peak torque at 8,500rpm.
The feature list is similar to the YZF-R15 V4.0, although this variant misses a traction control system and a quick-shifter. The feature list on the YZF-R15S V3.0 includes a multi-function LCD instrument cluster with a gear-shift indicator, dual-channel ABS, assist and slipper clutch, and a side stand indicator with engine cut-off function. The hardware continues to use a Deltabox frame and an aluminium swingarm. The suspension tasks are handled by telescopic front forks and a rear mono-shock. The braking hardware comprises single discs on both wheels

Apart from upgrading the cockpit, Yamaha Motor India has also added LED turn indicators to the motorcycle, and thus, the YZF-R15M now comes with full-LED lighting. Meanwhile, features retained from the previous model include a single bi-functional LED headlight with twin-LED DRLS, LED taillight, Variable Valve Actuation (VVA), assist and slipper clutch, traction control system, two ride modes (Track and Street), dual-channel ABS, and a quick-shifter (upshifts only).
2023 Yamaha YZF-R15: Engine and Performance
The mechanical specifications remain unaltered, and the 2023 Yamaha YZF-R15M continues to use the same 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, SOHC, four-valve, fuel-injected engine with VVA system as its predecessor. Linked to a six-speed gearbox, this motor is tuned to produce a maximum output of 18.1bhp at 10,000rpm and a peak torque of 14.2Nm at 7,500rpm. The gearbox, as mentioned earlier, benefits from an assist and slipper clutch mechanism and a quick-shifter. Further, the 2023 model also comes equipped with onboard diagnostics (OBD-II) system that monitors the emission levels in real time.
2023 Yamaha YZF-R15M: Styling and Colours
The styling remains similar to its predecessor, and the 2023 iteration of the motorcycle retains a modern design. The styling elements include full-fairing, fairing-mounted rear-view mirrors, clip-on handlebar, split-style seat, side-slung exhaust, and 17-inch alloy wheels on both ends. The 2023 YZF-R15M is listed in a single paint option - Metallic Grey. This paint option features a dual-tone finish and comes with a blue colour for the alloy wheels.
2023 Yamaha YZF-R15M: Hardware
Similar to the design, the hardware is retained from the previous version. The motorcycle is built around a deltabox frame and uses 37mm upside-down front forks and a rear mono-shock to handle the suspension duties. The anchoring setup comprises a 282mm single disc at the front and a 220mm single rotor at the back, while the safety net includes a dual-channel ABS and traction control system. The 17-inch alloy wheels are shod in 100/80-section front and 140/70-section rear tyres. Further, the rear wheel uses a radial-type tyre. The motorcycle features an 11-litre fuel tank and tips the weighing scale at 141 kg (kerb).
2023 Yamaha YZF-R15M: Price and Rivals
The 2023 Yamaha YZF-R15M has been priced at Rs 1,93,900 (ex-showroom, Delhi), making it nearly Rs 12,000 more expensive than the standard variant. The YZF-R15 series rivals the likes of KTM RC125, RC200, Suzuki Gixxer SF 250, and Bajaj Pulsar RS200 in the Indian market.
