  • Sometimes you've got to just dive in. I've been intimidated by tubing and the amount of three dimensional geometry of tubing and cage work that I put this off for way too long. Now that I've built up the gumption to do it, I'm kicking myself for worrying so much. In this video I'm learning how bending tube and measuring everything works. I have way more confidence to start other tube related projects in the future. you just gotta dive in.
    Bought both the bender and notcher here: www.affordable...

    I gotta see how you recessed the winch so deep. I'll look back for a video

      $100 in materials, a million in tools 😆. Way more satisfying this way tho.

      I've still got to weld it to the winch plate and brace the ends to the frame stiffeners, you could easily make this onto those bumper plates tho. That way you can take it off

      Thank you! I am planning to start filming a part 2 soon to reinforce the sides and winch plate and also add the plates for the front.

    I’ve have my xj since 2016 and ever since I have not been able to find a bumper. With and recessed winch option. This set up looks awesome bud, all these other websites have the bumper stick out so much that it kills the look. I guarantee if you sell them out put me down for one? Real nice

      Don't think I'd ever make and sell them but there was a guy on FB "bad dad fab" and also "Midnight metalworks" that was making hidden winch stuff to go behind a bumper. But I totally agree about big popular bumpers that give jeeps a huge underbite look. Also a tone of videos of JL's getting them stuck on obstacles lol

      @@BlackAndBlueGarage I so those too still not clean like yours. I even saw OR FAB they had a tube bumper I like but of course there no longer in buisness. If you don’t mind the finished video you make I’ll probably show it to one of the fab shops near my house and hopefully they don’t rip me a new one with the cost. I also subscribed to your channel, keep it up man good content.

      @@agustinhidalgo405 of course, go for it. I don't make any money for these videos but if I inspire one person or make somebody smile at least that's payment enough. I'd love to see more bumpers like this. If I did it again I'd make the whole upper bar out of 1/4 wall instead of just the ends. I just didn't have a way to make the little 2° bends to follow the grill.

    What size tubing did you use for this?

    • @BlackAndBlueGarage
      @BlackAndBlueGarage  6 місяців тому +1

      1.75" and 1.5" inside the ends. Then 1.75 to brace the ends to the stiffeners.

      I used esw tube for this, DOM tubing would be a heck of a lot stronger

      Thank you! 120 wall or?

    • @BlackAndBlueGarage
      @BlackAndBlueGarage  6 місяців тому

      @@notoriousTERROR oh yes 120 wall. And the 1.5 inserts are some leftover 1/4 wall stuffed all the way into the frame cause that's where the slight bends are. Hopefully that should make at least that part of it strong enough. Then the bottom tube is welded almost the full length of the winch plate. Hit me up on FB or Instagram if yo build one. I'm digging bumpers that have high approach angle these days.
