I have since been told by a different medical professional that it's not really appropriate for what I'm experiencing haha so I haven't had them in a while, but it's like how they'll prescribe antidepressants to treat anxiety. You don't have to be experiencing psychosis to be prescribed an antipsychotic. And experiencing psychosis shouldn't be stigmatized, it's not like the person is choosing to experience that mental state. The whole psych field is fucked and can't agree on anything, but we can probably mostly agree that the names of the classes of drugs are more confusing than anything
