Chris was best in the Steeldrivers. this is a classic example of a bluegrass trope called the "murder ballad". Most of the time the singer will slowly lead you in to the realization that he killed his woman.
Stapleton was a member of this Bluegrass group for several years. Incidentally, Adele covered this song on her "21" album. There are several Steeldrivers songs that I really like: Can You Run, Where Rainbows Never Die, & Blue Side Of The Mountain. Stapleton was at one time in a rock band, spent much of his musical career writing songs (he still writes much of what he records), several of which were #1 songs for other country artists. Pretty multi-talented guy.
A violin has strings, a fiddle has straangs.. lol essentially they are the same, difference is music genre. For a guy who can tear up the fiddle, check out Doug Kershaw, diggy liggy lo.
A violin and a fiddle is the same instrument. The bridge is shifted when you play it like a fiddle. The bridge is the the piece that lifts the string above the opening. And of course the style.
It is Chris stapleton and he's from ky so I could see where you're getting that it's also bluegrass music which is literally named for kentucky which is the bluegrass state

That wonderful fiddle & vocals is Ms. Tammy Rogers. Respect.
“Four cold walls, against my will, at least I know she’s lyin still, four cold walls without parole, lord have mercy on my soul”
Such great harmony they are amazing

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the solo albums Chris has released, but his Steeldrivers Era will always be the best! 😌

It’s the band he had before
Fiddle or violin depends on north or south
Y'all this is bluegrass music , country music came out of Bluegrass
It does sound a lot like him, but it's his younger brother, Schmalley Stapleton.
