I’m not an expert, but I stayed at a Holiday Inn express last night or was that Howard Johnson’s, I can’t remember. Anyway, I watch a lot of UA-cam, cold weather, diesel problems, a whole lot of the time it’s Water, maybe clean your fuel filters and see if you have a water separator on there, water, freezes, and diesel gets sludgy. Don’t know if that’ll help or not but that’s where I’d go next
Sweet. I'll check the filter, but I can hear blowing air near the injectors. Doesn't sound normal. It's just too rainy and cold to investigate. Btw: "They must've known I was staying at the Howard Johnsons." -Cedric from Top Secret

incredible truck, ive got a very similar truck but its a 98 12v, start with a new fuel filter, then check all your fuel lines, the return line likes to leak in behind the fuel filter housing, not an easy hose to get at, hard starting is typically from loss of prime to the fuel system which would be air likely, the fuel heater likes to suck in air through the electrical connector if i remember correctly, i delete those immediately on thes engines, they do fine without them, im in northern alberta and it gets -40 here and it doesnt effect anything, the lift pumps dont normally go bad since there just mechanical but that could be your issue with lack of fuel to your pump, these trucks are quite simple typically everything will be fuel related, start basic and go from there, fuel filter is my guess.
The Great White North. Finally, a certified Hoser on this channel. Thanks for the advice. I'm definitely going to delete the fuel heater. I swear I can hear air under the hood now. Filter and lines. I was surprised by this truck having a solenoid to shut the fuel off. I checked that today. Maybe that nut loosened and wasn't letting the fuel to open up. It worked fine doing it manually. Yes, this rig is incredible... to learn diesel mechanics! Lol. Stay tuned!
@@OffGridandWhiskey that could be another issue if youve touched the fuel shutoff solenoid, the lever might not be coming all the way up, you can take that off a zip tie it up and see what that does, id start with the fuel filter, if you havent changed it yet its due for one, there cheap and people neglect the small easy things. All the truck needs is a manual transmission
the one you removed was adjustable that's why it had a screw in the top, so you probably didn't have to replace it, nevertheless the new one is much superior anyway. the overflow valve pretty much adjusts your fuel pressure. my diagnosis on your truck is either a failing lift pump on the side of the block. if you don't have any white smoke that's a good sign and shows no air is getting into the lines. my recommendation would be get a fuel pressure gauge and adjust the valve till your fuel pressure is at 20-25psi idle and then drive it. if that fixes it, it shows the lift pump is failing and needs replacement because the overflow valve is letting less fuel back to the tank making the lift pump have to work less to supply the engine fuel. i have one of these super fun when you turn em up to go fast and blow clouds of black smoke.
Thanks for the insights! I really appreciate it. It's been pouring rain, so I haven't worked on the rig since installing the new overflow valve. I definitely need a pressure guage. I swear I hear air around the injectors, btw. I need to delete the fuel heater. For peace of mind, I bought the Dodge last summer, I have no problem replacing and deleting to make it more reliable. Lift pump for sure. I'll keep you updated!
I agree. Replacing the fuel pump will be the next step. It's just raining so much. One day, I will have a garage! Thanks for the support. Stay tuned for more!
Thanks for advice. I noticed a puff of exhaust out of the turbo when starting... while editing video. I'll look at filter. What do you mean, 'line popped off?'
Maybe buy a fuel pressure gauge. Their is mechanics and parts changers. You know the difference? One diagnosis the problem first and then replaces the part. A parts changer just buys parts and hopes it fixes the problem . I can tell what one you are
The filter maybe clogged with ice? Or frozen fuel lines if it sits for long periods it could have ice in the tank or the filter. Is there summer grade fuel? How cold is it? I could not think of a mom joke today:( Ok got 1>> Take your mom out of the barn and have her pull the wagon to the parts store :0
😂 I'm impressed you bring comedy in every sentence, your funny as hell.
The intro cracked me up😂
@@oscarbear7498 Thanks! I appreciate the support. OG&w is an acquired taste!

Big smile on my face when you okie wired the tail pipe up. I knew it!!! Minds on with a coat hanger

I got no advise for ya on this one, Dude. Damn I was really hoping this would end better.
Flacidd ending.... nothing new!

Copt that. No manual. I'm thinking of installing a 1984 Oldsmobile Hurst 'Lighting Rod Shifter' assembly. Extended, of course. 😂

Sounds like you have a governor on it. I'd check under the hood for a Jay Inslee. He'll definitely drain the whiskey from the wagon.

So you have either like 0 fuel pressure or a internal pump problem from what i can kinda guess from that

check fuel filter or may be a turbo issue, line popped off?

just do a visual around turbo maybe "hose" loose or fell off. man that's a long dip stick. lol@@OffGridandWhiskey

Fuel filter
Ok. I put a new one on 6 months ago when I bought it, but I'll check it again. Thanks!
It doesn't matter now with the shity fuel we are getting it sucks

20 degrees for a few days, but it happened before the Artic Blast. I can hear air now. Vacuum leak?
