You have it wrong. Lots of people spend days searching for level 150 doedic while a level 30 will get your base up in minutes.
Also biggest mistake in PVE is not grouping objectives together. Like dont just go looking for tusos. Kill dinos to open spawns while getting hide, keep an eye out for good dunkys, kill alphas for pearls and chibi, keep as much meat as you can to feed babies.
This is me right here. The enemy of good enough is perfect, or near perfect. There are some cases where this works great but... it makes playing The Island More Challenging and I have to keep calling myself on it.
I think she was referring more towards combat dinos.
These may not be the most technical tips but I love your straightforward approach and discipline. You motivated me like a life coach for Ark and I'm ready for peak efficiency! 💪
My biggest fails have been from neglecting to prepare properly when out and about on a tame. I used to forget about bolas, parachutes, or even grapples. They're heavy so I often just dismissed their importance when riding a nice tame but it's crazy how any of them can just about save your butt in a pinch... especially in PvP. Also either not organizing your stuff at all or being too obsessive with it. Mods can save a lot of hassle when it comes to that tho.
Just found the channel, oh what the youtube gods have recommended to me today! Your tips are all super straightforward and super helpful/very true!! All whilst being hilarious, I love it. At least I think so. Glad I found the channel, I am a vet player but I've always had more things to learn about Ark like how breeding works exactly for example, because I've just never really gotten too far into it. Nonetheless great content, liked and subbed, keep it up!
On the topic of biggest fails it's very often (but not limited to) times when the game is messing with you. For example I'm exploring the ocean, get disconnected and cannot reconnect again for a while. So eventually I drown. Then I spent hours searching for my water dinos and possibly my loot - and it happened more than once that I cannot find them. Need I add that Basilosaurus has a knack for not defending itself unless you're riding it and commanding it to attack?
And then, ofcourse, there are incidents where you plain forget to take things with you. Last time I was out taming a Theri with no kibble (pretty early game for me). So it did last forever. I found out that I didn't have enough narcotics with me to keep it tranq'd, so I started gathering Narcoberries in a frenzy for hours, feeding thousands of berries in addition to the narcotics I had. I barely made it, but it was a desolating (exhausting) experience.

Loved it Tiia~ Have to say our biggest fail was when Ark first came out. We build a hut south beach area but up in a clearing...Made of Thatch... and had a carno stalking us and couldnt get out and it ate our base:P 2015... Seems like forever now.
I agree with you on most points, but you do need some stam On the new ascendant. I go for a 150.
Especially underwater.

One of my biggest ark fails was just after I first started. I'd finally tamed a reasonable trike, very early game. It took all I had. So I got it back to my starter base. I had some other very low level Dino's, just trying bout taming really. Night came and I lit a fire, something came in to the base and everything attacked and killed it, still don't know what it was. Then I started hearing this grunting noise,went out around the base looking for what it was. Anyway morning came and my prise trike died. During the attack it had walked on to the fire and I hadn't realised, and been so new I didn't know what the noises were. Set me back quite a bit. Still absolutely love the game, love breeding, never really tried for mutations, but think I'll give it a go now I'm on asa. Pretty much everything you said was me when I started.

If you really want to know...I got Ark'd harder than I have ever been Ark'd before a couple weeks ago. It was my first real voyage into the snow cave because I want therizino and yuty saddle BPs. I was on a yuty and had two therizinos with me. This was right when cryopods came out because instead of incubating the eggs in the cave entrance, I decided to raise them back at base and then build a cryofridge in the cave entrance to save myself the tedium of raising the babies there. Everything was going fine, until my argy outside got killed by a wolf because it was somehow still rendered in. So I run back outside to pick up all the nice things I had left on it (that I didn't want to risk losing in the cave because I was really just there to test the waters) and soldier on. Everything continued to go fine until the room before the artifact. My yuty got knocked into the deep water trench and pushed into the mesh and was completely, utterly stuck. I tried for a very long time to get it out, but to no avail. I picked up the yuty with a cryopod and tried to bail on my therizinos to at least get out with the drops I had collected (no yuty or therizino BP, but still some nice stuff), but I spent so long trying to get the yuty out that the entire cave had repopulated and I got nailed by a purlovia hidden in the wall. Lights out. I tried to rush back in with my three backup therizinos, and I made it most of the way through the cave...before being purlovia'd from around a corner. Lights out again. After respawning back at base, I launched a rescue mission with my three caving gigantopithecus (with my best riot helmets), a daeodon, two rocket launchers for purlovia, and I headed back in. After a long, long time and grinding my way through, I make it back to where I died...the therizinos are still clinging to life... but my bag is gone. I don't know if it expired or went into the ground, but it's gone. No worries, I didn't bring anything into the cave that I wasn't prepared to lose...except yes I did because I had to grab everything after my argy died outside. I actually got to hang onto a couple of things because I had to store some of that stuff on a therizino for weight, but most of it was lost. Then two of the gigantopithecus, the daeodon, and all but one of the therizinos died on the way out because I spent long enough looking for my bag that the entire cave had repopulated again. I was not happy.
This is just bad luck 😢 But getting "ARK'D" is when the game takes your character, inventory, tames etc for no rhyme or reason. Just *Poof* gone. Hope you made your stuff back
Back when the ASE was only a few months old my buddy and I had permission from an alpha tribe to build on Carno, cause barely anyone went out there...and it was true our tiny building wasn't found for weeks. Until one day on a metal run we were spotted by another alpha tribe. we dodged, ducked, dipped, dived and dodged but our argies were no match for speed against their ptera. They picked us and dropped us as was per usual then. They then searched the corner of the map we were flying around in and found our little base. Luckily tho I was always busy taming max level scorpions. So when the highest level at the front aggrod on the enemy that had landed around the corner he went on the attack. By the time I could spawn back in after being killed by him in front of our base the scorpion was just dying to his sword, but he also had just been knocked out and would be out for at least a minute. I was still new to the game so just took his rifle and bullets and started shooting his high level flack helmet. He awoke before I could even kill him and sworded me down. Turns out his character was build for melee combat, has incredibly high fortitude, melee and HP. (So his tribemate was surprised to hear that he was even knocked out by us) In hindsight I should have took all from his body and used his ascendent sword to hack him down instead of a nearly primitive longneck.
I was on Genesis 1. I spent 10 hours in the swamp biome trying to leapfrog progression by taming the most beautiful paracer I had ever seen. She was a pristine cream color with dark stripes on her legs, high level, and full of stomp. I died over and over to small fry before finally getting her trapped and tamed. I named her, fed her, teleported her back to my island base and started working on a saddle. She walked off a cliff into the water. I tried everything I could think of but just couldn't get her up my ramp onto land. I couldn't teleport her, for whatever reason. I just had to sit there and watch her drown. Her name was Gwen. She's tattooed on my arm now, as a reminder of all the pack-bonded pals I've lost.
It's actually funny that you mentioned the blueprints because I deliberately avoid them because I think using them makes the game too easy. :p
As a brand new player in SP, i had just learned how to build on rafts, so i built up a raft and took my favorite creatures and went on a mission to circumnavigate the island. ... The leeds got me just as id gotten into the north. ... at night... before i knew how to gamma so it was DARK. This was also the stage in the game where you treat every single tame as indispensable and irreplaceable. Oh how far weve come....
When I first started playing ark…this is a good one. Me and my friend were building a base in this water cove there was a beautiful moonlit spot that shone inside. Well somehow a 150 theri spawned right inside where we had been building but stuck on a cliff or so we thought. Both of our argys down there with us, we attempted to tame but the theri got stuck in the water under our ceiling and without a proper trap (plus the fact it kept one tapping us if we got too close) the poor thing drowned 😂😅
I agree with everything except stats. A good recommendation is
500HP Max ( this makes u able to live any fall damage even from skybox ceiling since theres a fall damage cap ( useful for PvP and PvE)
150/200 Stamina ( since no more movement speed stamina is the next best thing and saved me more times than i can count.
Weight 500/600 ( this comes down to personal taste but id never do below 500.
So go Weight > HP > Stamina > Melee .
Melee is useless since u use dinos to gather, i only started lvling melee after my char maxed at
500HP
200Stam
600Weight.
Now that i did alpha ascension and chibis i can get lv 135 which means im doing 200% melee, sometimes comes in handy for some caves.
And lastly Fortitude if u really want. But For Heat/cold resistance the Fortitude increments are little and i advise looking it up. Fortitude importance is Mainly Torpor resistance, thats its main thing :)
Other then that. Great vid.
The very first time I tamed an Argentavis on ASE, I was such a noob so it never even crossed my mind to make a trap for it. Instead, I chased it all the way up volcano mountain on foot. Somehow, I managed to knock it out and then it promptly got killed by something while I was trying to gather food for it.
My most resent fail was being impatient and trying to tame a 150 argy with amazing colors, without a trap. Chased it thought the snow, thick forest, across ice and rivers. Lost it multiple times and just when I was about to give up, I would spot it again, alot farther away then I would have expected. Finally, FINALLY it flew over an open area and I kept pelting it and I wasn't paying attention but it deceded to fall asleep...........over the water and it drowned LOL. My wife was laughing her head off.
I just wasted 23 Extraordinary Kibble by accident CAUSE I am A NOOOB on a tame legit needed one more. Went to craft the other and a sandstorm hit me slowing me down just enough for the taming bar to drop drastically. I am here to wait for my Golem to wake back up. Great tips I learned something so thank you very very much.
My biggest fail when I first started playing was that I never took the time to learn how to breed. Until I had well over 2k hours, I didn't give it much attention.
My fail... Flyer runs out of stamina , in the middel of the swamp , then ah kapro came kidnaped me of my mount ....., sarco came and ate my Petra while I was carried around by a proud kapro

My biggest fail was, when I was still pretty green in the game with around 30 hours, and I borrowed my tribemates wyvern for a food run on The Island near the redwoods, got jumped by a Thyla and killed, searched for 30 minutes my mates wyvern and finally found it and booked the hell out of there XD Now with over 2k hours in ASE and 300 hours ASA i still have a bad feeling when im close to the redwoods
Some levels in stamina are important because no movement speed...
For the 8 Reason you should learn form PVP players how to play ARK. It's surprising how many players don't use Parachutes, Bola, Stimberry, or secure the entire area with Metal Structures were they are taming a high level dino from other hostile creatures.
in general official players are good teachers

Weight and Health in that order. Middle-game kit is like 100-125lbs on its own, before cargo, and Swamp Fever knocks off 20%... You can make up for fortitude with food recipes and stimulant, but under 400 weight you're going to struggle with everything.

For asa official pvp I do 450 health 150 Stam 20 fortitude and literally everything else into weight

Here's some real artists build small. If you have an indie forge, hide it well. And don't worry about building up if there's a tribe that's already established on the server. They will wipe you out if you get too big. As a threat, the smart move would be to. And make enough to slot cap a few turns to keep Bob. Some blown up your stuff and then just start taking out the big tribes stuff. They will start wiping out anybody who's established themselves on the map. And I'll take out more people that can stop you. And you just do hit-and-run gorilla tactics to be able to eventually. Get found and wiped out by these guys. Or the other option is. They just pick you up because it's easier to bring you into their tribe than it is to destroy you.
You could also feel like you suck bc the game crashes and lags every 10mins or you've spent two weeks searching the map finding either no important dinos or maybe with luck you found a couple but they were level 20

The only reason I suck is cuz I can’t trust no one in this game 🤣 Mostly Solo but I Can’t for the life of me play single player 💀… 1st thing yall should know is your base and materials are nothing you can’t get back, bloodlines bps and getting tek grams is a must, and must learn to hide your important stuff away , and have multiple huts, me personally I could never be fully wiped, I live everywhere! Sky quest, rafts, basis on wonder with stuff in it no saddle. I got parasaurs on passive flee wander with no saddle and kits in it… I’m ready for the real life apocalypse thx to this game.
If ARK doesnt give you trust issues, I don't know what does.

When I saw the title I was looking forward to this vid. It's not the first vid of you I'm seeing and in general your vids are amazing with research, detail and proof of concept. This one is different and I disagree on a few things. In general this video is only scratching the surface of the game and is way too general (unlike your other videos I'm used to).
Next most of your "reasons" don't work in that generality. For example armor. When on the island, temperature balancing is an important thing and ascendant cloth armor does a very good job at it. Ofcourse it would be wrong to wear that in most caves (LSC works though), but here's the point - generally saying that cloth armor is crap just doesn't do it justice. Next example is berries. When I'm at base and have literally thousands of berries available, that's the food I'm going for because - why not. When I'm on the surface, exploring, I typically go with meat and when I'm into caves I typically go with crafted food. It's important to make a difference and to know the difference. Just stating that "this is bad" typically doesn't work for Ark because the game has way too many details.
Next thing - anyone who's played at least a three digit number of hours on Ark knows that Ark is THE DEFINITION OF GRIND. There's little reason to emphasize it (or at least that's what I think).
So overall you have great content, but this vid just doesn't make it into the list for me.
Not a fan of pvp I like single player :) people's shitty ugly bases ruin the visuals of the game lol

You don't even play Ark. You're playing a breeding simulator. get out of your base and go play the real game. 😞
Biggest fail: forgetting to adjust your settings from the default ones when playing single-player. don't get me wrong it's still fun... for the first 5-10 minutes until you realize you just ate 10 stacks of meat and berries and are still starving somehow. Don't play on these settings if you don't have to. manually set difficulty to 5(people don't realize they can click inside that value box and set anything they want), turn down food and water drains, cuddle times/frequency, breeding times, and up the maturation speed, so that the game doesn't become a fulltime job. You don't need to touch harvest at all, it's default setting is about the only GOOD default setting. Lots of guides out there for ideal SP settings and how to set them properly for each Ark, go watch them.

hehe, it definitely requires a bit of a masochism streak if you want to play on anything resembling default settings(aka the official dev recommended setting). They are far too low in every sense of the word. It becomes a job, rather than a game to be enjoyed, and at a near 600GB storage cost, arguably it's not worth it for the slog that it is if you want to play multiplayer. and that's ignoring how badly optimized the game is.
Wow so apparently I waste my stat points on Oxygen and food (you didn't even give good advice on breakpoints of fortitude or anything) and that I don't farm.
I'm not PVP so a stone base is just fine. I've got 4k metal sitting in my fabricator while I farm my polymer.
I do pick up loot crates, I do look for blueprints. I do look for high level dinos.
There are plenty of reasons why I suck at Ark, but none of your reasons I assure you. I didn't appreciate the condescending tone so no sub from me.
Only when I joined a really cool unofficial server with awesome peeps, after trying sp, off pvp, off pve for several hundred hours... did someone show me that if you press F you can access the inventory of your mount ...while mounted.
