When I crew chief for hire or mentoring a young racer one of the things I do instead of I'm trying to find the tree always tell him to go as red as possible and work backwards to Green I find it gives a young racer more of an honest delay in their box and then I work they're Cadence to the beam for the tire and air pressure and once they start to tickle the beam getting good lights for me I find that the easiest way to teach a young guy or girl now the high-end that's a little other chapter I just tell him we have to pay their dues with seat time enjoy the show keep up the good work

I first started racing a 17-second car in Sportsman. Since I was so much slower than everybody else, I was able to watch them leave the line in my rear view mirror or by looking back. Got pretty good at deciphering whether it was a good light or a bad light. 3 track championships later, it helped a lot! Great video.

here's another one I did when there was a second or more and if there was no blinders up I would watch the apponents light and listen to the sound of the engine to tell if his or her light was good or not I know hard to believe but try doing this sometime it worked will. just stand behind the cars and watch for your self then tell me you do not see a great light or just a mediocre light. thanks tom

Still watching the video but in cases like this where you dialed the same or close to it there is something that I’ve always done and this comes from my time racing sst or any kinda .90 racing. As soon as I let go of the button I look directly at the top 2 pre stage bulbs. By doing that it gives me a very accurate idea of who left first and by how much.

    • @GallStarTV

Love the channel, maybe in 2021 you could offer a sponsorship of a sort.
You offer a sticker with the channel name for x-$
Then you feature them on the channel.
I came back last year to racing and run in the trophy class.
    (At Thunder Valley)
Speaking for myself it would be cool seeing my car and a quick bit of info.
And I think.showing some of the other classes would help draw people to either race or at least make a day in the stands.

This is a perfectly timed video! I am racing for my first RC drag racing Championship in 2 weeks and I am 20pts out of first place that's only one round of racing! With these RC cars you can definitely see if your opponent leaves first in these head up situations so if i race a car that is heads up i will for sure give this tip a try.! i know for myself i like to take a look at the tree and take one BIG deep breath before i stage to get my mind right and in doing this i am able to make better decisions. i feel for anyone when you are up at the starting line don't worry about getting distracted because its that very thought that can end the race before it starts also (remember what Tom says)
    - race yourself
    - trust yourself
    - get pissed at the tree

I do something similar, but instead of looking at the other car, I watch the stage bulbs to see which ones go out first . . . my lane or theirs. You can usually catch it that way off the bottom too. Also, get you some spray son! You can be real tricky then 😉

    • @GallStarTV

Awesome that you can see it in the pre stage beams. I’ve tried it but haven’t gotten the hang of it. It would certainly be easier than hunching your head down real quick but I guess that’s just what I’m used to. After reading all the comments and messages I got from this video I’m probably going to try learning the top bulb method a little better next year 👍

Great tip! You learn something each and every pass down the track . You think you hate yellow slips? There were a pair of kids that I'd always mess with them around the track..Anyway, one year they were in charge of the ticket stand on return road...and these little turds started writing comments on my tickets..if it was a yellow one, "U suk", "LOL!", "what was that?" Or if it was a win ticket. "Got Lucky", "No way?", or "Sniff. Sniff. I smell yellow". Crap like that.
Arrrgh! Finally ended when *someone* locked them both in the ticket booth....there was almost an Amber Alert bcuz nobody had seen them for around an hour and a half after final round.
I was deep asleep in the coach. Heard about it the following day though.. poor lil fellers...
