- Heads up races (or nearly heads-up races) provide a unique opportunity on the starting line that you can't capitalize on if an ET spread exists between you and your opponent. Can YOU see what I see?? Comment below! 👇

How do you possibly only have 5600 subscribers. I see so many channels that aren’t half as good as yours that seem to be more popular. I love your channel it’s my favorite.
This is something I ask myself daily John.. 🤦🏻♂️🤣. We're gonna keep at it and hopefully one day it will grow to what I believe it can be!! Thanks so much for the support my friend! 🤘
Good strategy thanks.
Great tip! I never thought of that! Thanks
Ty
Tons of GREAT info in this! Great video!
The yellow tickets are a big part of bracket racing glad you show it.any one can be a 1st round canidate.love a your stuff its all positive stuff .
Most people think that drag racing is easy just from watching it but little do they know all the things that go on behind the scenes and going down the track.
Truth
Hey, I feel your pain!! I hate the dreaded yellow slip.
I always get more than my money's worth. I go back a watch old vids to.
In a heads up race that I am top bulbing, I stare at the stage bulbs to see who left first. (And then you know whether to dump or stripe em.)
When I crew chief for hire or mentoring a young racer one of the things I do instead of I'm trying to find the tree always tell him to go as red as possible and work backwards to Green I find it gives a young racer more of an honest delay in their box and then I work they're Cadence to the beam for the tire and air pressure and once they start to tickle the beam getting good lights for me I find that the easiest way to teach a young guy or girl now the high-end that's a little other chapter I just tell him we have to pay their dues with seat time enjoy the show keep up the good work
I first started racing a 17-second car in Sportsman. Since I was so much slower than everybody else, I was able to watch them leave the line in my rear view mirror or by looking back. Got pretty good at deciphering whether it was a good light or a bad light. 3 track championships later, it helped a lot! Great video.
here's another one I did when there was a second or more and if there was no blinders up I would watch the apponents light and listen to the sound of the engine to tell if his or her light was good or not I know hard to believe but try doing this sometime it worked will. just stand behind the cars and watch for your self then tell me you do not see a great light or just a mediocre light. thanks tom
6:56 u shot out a loogie lol love the vids tho
Everybody misses the light once in awhile fantastic that you figured all that out in 4 seconds
i dig your vids.. ..im with your dad tho bro.. u cant see that and be moving at same time..u do put together hard to beat packages.. good stuff
Let dad know that it is possible. I am mainly a bottom bulb/footbrake and can tell who has the light.
That intro tho!!! 🔥🔥🔥Great content. I appreciate that you post the good, the bad, and the ugly. As someone who hopes to start bracket racing soon, other than footbraking my daily, this is something that I never would’ve thought to do in that situation. Thank you as always
Thank you Hunter!!!!! I was hoping someone would notice the new intro 😁😁. Still making a few tweaks to it but I think one really liking this one! Haha. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Cool video! Fun to see a race from this perspective. That was me. You dropped the anchor, I just lifted. I took off 2-3mph. Clearly I need to be more ready to pound the brakes when my opponent dumps like that.
Great job man! I saw you were def killing a little but there was nothing I could do after that terrible light!!! 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️. Hopefully I can give you a little better run at it if we ever race again 😁👍
Still watching the video but in cases like this where you dialed the same or close to it there is something that I’ve always done and this comes from my time racing sst or any kinda .90 racing. As soon as I let go of the button I look directly at the top 2 pre stage bulbs. By doing that it gives me a very accurate idea of who left first and by how much.
Funny you say that Matt, I actually recorded a bit about that, but decided to chop it since it’s not what I do and I haven’t really been able to see it in the top bulbs. Also I thought the video was a little long. Also me omitting it got you to comment on this video so WIN for engagement on my part!! 🤣🤣🤣😁🤣
When I do index racing I do the same
Love the channel, maybe in 2021 you could offer a sponsorship of a sort.
You offer a sticker with the channel name for x-$
Then you feature them on the channel.
I came back last year to racing and run in the trophy class.
(At Thunder Valley)
Speaking for myself it would be cool seeing my car and a quick bit of info.
And I think.showing some of the other classes would help draw people to either race or at least make a day in the stands.
Interesting idea Jack!!! I’ll have to give it a bit more thought 💭 I do have Team GallStar, and applications for 2021 will be opening soon!!
You willingness to share your mistakes is awesome .You really are trying to help others. Man your video editing is getting better and better.
Thank you dstiltz!! I appreciate it very much. No doubt there’s races that are hard to publish from time to time.. 😬😬. (Actually way too often)
I race an 8.60 index in a FED. .40 pro tree I let go and always look. Knowing who moved first let's me know what I have to make it look like at the stripe. I like it.
I always knew the fastest my car would run, dial in accordingly, air temp, track condition's so on. Give it all she's got, watch on the top end , throttle accordingly. I have been beat by . 001 once. This was it the mid 70s. always liked street racing better, easier to cheer 🎉😂
I meant CHEAT, DAM SPELL CHECK
Sand bagging long term doesn't work.
Great info and the share
Great video I never thought about it in a bracket race. I always know in a heads up race
Awesome, a whole video on one run. Tons of thought into every movement of every race. You make us feel like we are in the pits with you. Great Job, Thanks
Still Laughing at "hit the dis- like button twice"
🤣. Haha.. that “twice” part is critical if you’re asking people to hit the dislike button!
You fidget a lot getting reads for burn out is that nerves or part of your prep
Nerves mostly I’d say... just continually double checking things and can’t sit still.. I need to work on staying calm for sure.
@@GallStarTV I wouldn’t change anything your an awesome bracket racer
Another great video!
Thanks man ✊
I would think that info and a nitrous bottle could possibly change the outcome. Especially if he is on with a 7 and it looked like he kill some himself. You might push him under.
Yes sir.. and that’s exactly what I thought I could do with how I had the car dialed... I didn’t account for THAT bad of a light tho.. 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
@@GallStarTV One of the reasons I want spray. Can't convince the wife. Only thing she has said no to racing wise.
This is a perfectly timed video! I am racing for my first RC drag racing Championship in 2 weeks and I am 20pts out of first place that's only one round of racing! With these RC cars you can definitely see if your opponent leaves first in these head up situations so if i race a car that is heads up i will for sure give this tip a try.! i know for myself i like to take a look at the tree and take one BIG deep breath before i stage to get my mind right and in doing this i am able to make better decisions. i feel for anyone when you are up at the starting line don't worry about getting distracted because its that very thought that can end the race before it starts also (remember what Tom says)
- race yourself
- trust yourself
- get pissed at the tree
And the results will show!
You got it man.. for me, saying it is a requirement for doing it (but not a guarantee 🤔). But it surely won’t happen If I don’t say it!!
Gr8 video Tom see you in the Chat Bleachers
Balin are you talking about remote control drag racing? I’ve always wanted to try that!
@@johnpatterson5935 Yes I am it’s really awesome! We do it in 132 feet and it simulates pretty much everything real Dragracing does.
Possible whip lash lol
It does work. I have had a similar rt and ran him down and literally locked them up. Pushed him under by .005. Either way at some point in bracket racing you need luck lol.
love that intro!👊🔥
Exactly man.. I need a lot of luck because being “good” all the time is not in the cards 🤣
I've always hated heads up races, my junk 60s around 5 huns better than most the cars who run the same ET and it always makes the race look weird as I normally keep at least 1 in my pocket.... I'd much rather be the slow car and look over my shoulder, I guess due to racing my street car for years and sporting almost everyone a couple seconds lol
I dig the new intro! Also, people can appreciate anyone who can admit they when they screw up at racing. Being able to use your bad passes as content for youtube says alot about your ability to learn from your mistakes and be transparent with everyone.
Thanks man I appreciate that!!! And glad you noticed the intro too 😁. I like it too
love that intro!👊🔥
Thanks much!! Been working hard on making a cool intro.. still tweaking it but it’s close now 😁
Love the new intro. That was sick
Yo good video, like this kinda video. Like to see more racing also
Coming soon! ✊
yellow slips suck in drag racing
A yellow slip means u weren’t trying hard enough and next time it’s be way better that’s what a yellow slip says to u
64👍's up thanks again for taking the time for us all
The only thing I can say about reaction times if they're not using LED lights you can look through the yellow glass at the filament and see it's starting to go dim that's when I let go of the button double o1 the trip zero lights is what I normally would get had any racetrack
I’m a no box guy i index race and bracket race. When I heads up index race I do look over at the 60 ft to get an idea where we’re at to do what you’re saying be able to judge what to do at the finish line. I love the rush of thinking and making a decision especially cause it’s 8th mile index you know there’s little to no room for error. Makes me feel smart when I get the win lights😂
I agree with everything you said Nick! 👊😁
You ever seen a 6 second car trap at 125mph. I saw one at the loose rocker door car race back in the summer. It was a gto judge with only high gear. I didn’t have to race him but in my head I was thinking how weird of a race that would be against him. I’m a 6.0 door car as well.
I know this is 3 years old but my track does not have yellow time slips anymore, both are white.
Some tracks don’t have any time slips now (unfortunately). They are digital only
@@GallStarTV that’s too much tech there, give me paper. 🤦♂️
@@noahdunaway agree
The one that got me was I'm. 003 to his .055 I go by him Whomping the gas pedal several times and his win light comes on. So I had a few choice words for myself until I get the time slip and the margin of victory was on my side. He gets the win light and I get the MOV.
😬😬🤬 too much margin? There’s so many ways to lose!!
@@GallStarTV Nah I was good a bunch. I tightened the stripe up to .005 and he got the win light and I got the MOV. Being stunned is an understatement.
I do something similar, but instead of looking at the other car, I watch the stage bulbs to see which ones go out first . . . my lane or theirs. You can usually catch it that way off the bottom too. Also, get you some spray son! You can be real tricky then 😉
Awesome that you can see it in the pre stage beams. I’ve tried it but haven’t gotten the hang of it. It would certainly be easier than hunching your head down real quick but I guess that’s just what I’m used to. After reading all the comments and messages I got from this video I’m probably going to try learning the top bulb method a little better next year 👍
I do the same thing. Kind of have to off the bottom! And with door cars they all leave the beams differently (up out of the beams vs forward out of the beams) you don’t care who “moves” first you care who “leaves” first
They give out yellow time slips??
😎
Seriously though...
People have a hard time understanding how everything seems to slow down especially when you try so hard to do the exact thing every time. You get into such a zone... you can see everything... good or bad.
Thanks for the video Tom!
Not if you win all the time! 🤷🏻♂️😂
and i thought yellow slips mean win?
Not applicable in your situation, but in cars with radios I always have it tuned into the track PA. Some announcers will drop clues on the starting line status.
I’ve seen that done 😁👍👍
i was running 6.0 index (1/8th mile) was .001 on the tree my opponent was in the .100s not sure exactly, couldn’t see him all the way down the track. started riding the brakes ended up being .008 too fast. that one hurt to lose, will never make that mistake again lol
Which we could get a box in my jr so I could do that.
What the heck is a yellow slip
White slips = WIN. Yellow slips = LOSE
@@GallStarTV At my local track both time slips are white so I guess even when I lose I'm a winner.
When I go to the track I say to myself before I go out their green and white green and white. Because I want to be good green and getting the white time slip
Great tip! You learn something each and every pass down the track . You think you hate yellow slips? There were a pair of kids that I'd always mess with them around the track..Anyway, one year they were in charge of the ticket stand on return road...and these little turds started writing comments on my tickets..if it was a yellow one, "U suk", "LOL!", "what was that?" Or if it was a win ticket. "Got Lucky", "No way?", or "Sniff. Sniff. I smell yellow". Crap like that.
Arrrgh! Finally ended when *someone* locked them both in the ticket booth....there was almost an Amber Alert bcuz nobody had seen them for around an hour and a half after final round.
I was deep asleep in the coach. Heard about it the following day though.. poor lil fellers...
But, yeah. Yellow ticket are nowhere near as fun as the White ones.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! Guess what Vera chose to be for Halloween... it rhymes with “dracecar Rriver ” 😍
I don’t think I’m getting any heads up races any time soon going 7.20s in top lol
7.20s car at local track always stiff competition
In top... prolly not 🤦🏻♂️😂👍
Most of the footbrakers 6 sec
7 minutes old and I'm in . Like. Lol.
Dude if you wouldn’t have looked you may have actually won that race all this looking to the other lanes loses you time and plus you need to scrap those blinders and learn how to really drive those are the most restrictive blinders I’ve ever seen and you putting down your shield isn’t helping your RT or your launch
First
At least your weren’t .060😂😂
LOL. 🤦🏻♂️
DUMP DAY!
Need to get your face closer so we can see your pores.
