Effective striking/grappling is the only criteria that is supposed to be used unless they are both 100% even. Immediate impact/damage is given priority over cumulative (so Sean's making Petr panic wrestle should have weighed heavily in his favor). Regarding takedowns, a quote "... a successful takedown is not merely the changing of positions, but an establishment of an attack from the use of the takedown." With that in mind, it's probably not the robbery people thought it was

I really don't know what's going on with Petr Yan's fights, every time he makes fights that are super close or people think he was going to win. In the end, the balance tips to the wrong side. Judges are also responsible and play a role. And frankly it's starting to mean a lot, Yan is such a talented fighter and deserves respect, the UFC doesn't respect him right now...
The judges are appointed by the athletic commissions. The Judges aren’t determined by the UFC.
