    A great job in assembling the history of STL 1 and STL 2. Many lives were touched by those plants, products and people of the St. Louis complex. Thanks

      What was building the 1994-1997 Dodge RAM like? My truck was built at the “North” assembly plant September 7th 1995. I’d love to hear your stories!

      @@adriananoelle4699 The minivan was the hottest vehicle in the world in 1995 along with the Dodge Ram Pickup truck and the Truck division wanted the minivan plant for more truck production because the new model of the Chrysler minivan was moving production to the then closed South plant, but sales of the minivan kept the old minivan building minivans while cranking up the South plant for the new model minivans. It was crazy wild seeing the last minivan coming down the line as the construction crew were tearing out the line behind the last minivan with sparks flying 10 feet in the sky. It looked like a war zone as the last minivan came down the line. Those were great times with the truck division and minivan division fighting for production space in the two St. Louis plants. Who knew they would tear down those two hottest plants in the corporation just 15 years later? Well, it has proved to be the biggest mistake by Chrysler only after the worse decision of making Bob Eaton to take over for Lee Iacocca. I just wished I would have taken some pictures of the sparks flying as the last minivan was coming down the line. ua-cam.com/video/yMEPwQmknlU/v-deo.html

    You would have to imagine these plants would be humming right now... Crazy. Is the land still vacant? Is FCA the owner? Or an old entity of some sort?

      The new land owners has built Logistics and warehousing on the old Chrysler land and continuing to build new business's. Never to replace the 43,000 jobs and 15 billion dollars revenue that was there before tearing down the two state of the art factories. ua-cam.com/video/QtpK_6VeBIc/v-deo.html

    Why did they close the St. Louis works? And were those closures anywhere near as damaging to the area economy as losing the NFL team more recently? So devastating to lose the Rams.

    • @merriman1505
      @merriman1505  6 років тому +2

      Chrysler closed the St. Louis plants due to 40% drop in car sales during the great recession as they have done in the past, but you never tear down state of the art factories at down turns in sales. The St. Louis business reported the closing impacted 43,000 St. Louis area jobs and $15 billion loss annual revenue. Don't know or care how loosing the NFL Rams hurt St. Louis. The NFL lost my respect when they moved the Football Cardinals our to St. Louis and most recently disrespecting my American Flag. Now I have lost all respect for the NFL!!!!! I do care about the 43.000 St. Louis jobs lost for ever. All of those jobs would have been back to work had they (president Obama) on senator McCaskill's watch left those plants stand!!!! And why do you think they had to tear down those 2 great plants???? For the La Rams?????

      Joe Merriman Ever feel urinated on out there by the main(urine)stream media out there? The extent to which journalists have abandoned their profession for advocacy is breathtaking. They take a story about the NFL lineman sized thug (Michael Brown) who robs and assaults a convenience store clerk and attacks an officer and then they build a whole political movement around it. Kaepernick is a hero according to the mainstream media.

    • @merriman1505
      @merriman1505  6 років тому +1

      Yes mainstream media has lost my respect along with the FBI and their witch hunts against the first good president since Truman who put and end to WWII. The Korean peace will go down in history as the greatest achievement of any president in world history!!!!!!! I keep asking president Trump if he will rebuild our two plants that Obama tore down. No response.

      +William Zinselmeier Thank you unfair trade bills that opened our doors to free trade not fair trade. Iacocca tried to tell Congress back in the 80s we need a level playing field and they didn't listen then and they still don't get it. Look what Obama did to our plants.

      Lol...Obama? You mean the Bush recession? You mean the series of terrible deals that led to it being sold to a capital fund in 2007...under the Bush administration? You mean the bankruptcy it had to declare after years of mismanagement? Get real. Chrysler was a poorly run company before Iacocca and then again after his departure. It wasn't a great company and suffered because it couldn't compete. Sorry if that was your history but it wasn't a strong company in management and decision making for a very very long time.

    • @merriman1505
      @merriman1505  8 років тому +1

      100% correct Dennis except for couldn't compete. Chrysler not only could compete but lead in so many different categories and that's why Mercedes tried to destroy Jeep because they wanted in the SUV market and tired their best to kill the Jeep but Jeep had their own diehard Jeep history that not even Mercedes could kill. Just like WWII Jeep won the war of survival. And lets not forget the number one minivan on the road today made by Chrysler. Not even Obama could destroy Chrysler by tearing down the top Chrysler facility in it's history. And I hope Trump sticks it to Chrysler for moving the Ram truck and minivan out of the USA.

      Dennis De St Jeor a lot took place leading up to the closing but the tearing down was on Obama's watch and Obama's mistake. His worse. Well, maybe one of his worse million mistakes.

      Blaming Obama is far fetched...At least he agreed to the auto bailout. had a republican been in office the deal never would have been done. The only mistake was, if our government had any common sense ( imagine that..our government having common sense)..one of the stipulations should have been..." We will bail you out..but if you close any plants down, it will be plants outside our country"...How simple could that have been.

    It's a crying shame but truth be told the car biz has always been very cyclical.

    • @merriman1505
      @merriman1505  6 років тому

      Right very cyclical so why tear down two perfectly good plants that would be back to work as soon as sales came back??? Why tear them down using the reason the land would sell faster if torn down and the land is still sitting empty 7 years later as of today. ua-cam.com/video/YMMkMX3mv_0/v-deo.html So why did they tear them down and who paid for it? Was it the tax payers?

    • @howardroberts4549
      @howardroberts4549 6 років тому

      I am from Detroit I don't really care about your plants. Wait did't Obama save the auto industry?

    • @howardroberts4549
      @howardroberts4549 6 років тому

      Hey I live next to the stamping and assembly plants. Dart killed off 200 killed off at least Ford admits no more sedans exepct maybe a crappy Focus.

    • @merriman1505
      @merriman1505  6 років тому

      Obama takes credit for saving the auto industry but doesn't want to take credit for closing 50,000 factories and tearing down our 2 perfectly good plants in St. Louis impacting 43,000 St. Louis jobs to Mexico and Canada Howard. Yes president Obama only wants to take the good credit not the bad credit that closed 50,000 factories for his globalization policy Howard. Obama doesn't talk about closing 50,000 factories. We saw his work up close in St. Louis Howard along with our special senator McCaskill lie lie lie. Talk from both sides of her mouth like the true politician she is. Yes Obama's globalization policy of closing our factories and sending our jobs to 3rd world countries sure worked for Obama but not us Americans Howard. You should care about our plants Howard they are your plants too Howard. We are all Americans that should care about our jobs.

      Joe Merriman from my understanding the contractor does it for free. He makes his money from the scrap metal like Cooper, stainless steel ex... That runs in to the millions.
