Regarding encouraging children to engage in Jewish practices, I've found that a gentle approach works best. As a Sefardi I'm delighted that my kids enjoy attending shul, they can even lead as chazzan for פסוקי דזמרה, They also get so excited about the Makom of the week, which keeps them motivated and engaged. However, when it comes to other practices like reciting Tehillim, I've learned that explicit instructions can be counterproductive. Instead, I share inspiring stories and anecdotes about the value of reciting Tehillim. Amazingly, this approach has proven effective! Within 2-3 weeks, my children begin to adopt the practice on their own. This method fosters a sense of autonomy and encourages a genuine connection to our heritage.
True, but people have chalishus hadaas, when they realise that they've learned so much but can't remember anything. Remembering and being able to repeat adds to the sweetness and enjoyment of learning.
