How hard is it to take it apart and rebuild. I have an alfetta gtv 2000 from 1978 that i plan to change the syncro rings. I have never worked on a gearbox like that.
Sorry for the delay in replying. It all depends on your skill level really. I had never worked on a transmission before this video but a track car issue with 1st gear required my gearbox to be pulled apart and some broken components replaced. So I shadowed the guy doing the work. I had a couple of spare boxes so I did this video as a learning exercise.
Yes. There are a few minor differences but essentially it is the same box from the Alfetta GT in 1975 to the last of the Alfa 75s in 1992. There are the LSD versions in the 75 Twin Spark and 3.0ltr. Different ratios too.
Didnt. This isnt going in a car anytime soon. This was merely a familiarisation session. The video was actually more for my own benefit rather than posting.
De dion transaxle~~~~ i remember that sometimes the 2nd and 3rd gears wouldnt engage and the clutch had to be pressed, engine revved, then try again. I remember reading in the early internet Alfa enthusiasts forums the cure was to mill out the synchro gears to make them lighter, so they could spin faster and mesh 1st time 'round.
The best ever especially on mountain roads
that's a job I need to do soon, thanks for posting
surprised he didn't use the false detent tools to hold the detent balls in place.
Thanks nick for posting!

Is it the same gearbox as the Alfa 75

interesting, whats of gearbox oil?
A contentious subject. I use Penrite Transalxe Oil but Redline is popular amongst the Alfa people I know.

Common issue is 1st gear doesnt engage until you go via 2nd. Changing down to 2nd can be resolved by double clutching.
@@alfagarage116 yes that’s it. I got my gears mixed
There are also lightened gears avaiable with holes drilled, not cheap though
