What an amazing SInger! Never forgot her from one of my fave Different World episodes...So glad to see her performances here on youtube...Truly gifted. Thanks for sharing Miss Sharon Brown Blanks
Believe it or not, there are many people that actually like how one can control their vibrato to be slow the way she can do it. Brings versatility to their voice.
She's the greatest!!I had the honor of seeing her as Effie too and she was the best Effie ever!People just don't know what they've missed!!I wish someone would upload clips of her Effie. She sang the mess out of those songs and her acting was sublime, subtle, explosive, and heartbreaking.I'm glad she's still on the stage and I hope to see her again.
The first touring show I ever saw was Dreamgirls a The Pantages in LA and she was amazing.. I was so hooked on the Broadway Show and she went toe to toe with Jennifer and I think they came out even.. Then I moved to San Diego and the first touring show I saw was Jekyll and Hyde.. She was in that show.. Mind you I had like 6 different versions of Jekyll and Hyde and I listened to them all but she was fantastic and I saw that show twice she was amazing in that. I wanted to see RENT when the first touring show started at the La Jolla Playhouse but I didn't have a car.. I was so hooked on RENT at the time I listened to it at least once or twice every day.. I also listened to it at work both Christmas's that I had to work.. At 6p (9p Eastern Standard Time) and then again at 9p (West Coast Standard Time) I think the second Christmas Eve I worked it was on repeat and that was all I listened to.. Over and over again for 16 hours.. I pulled a double sine the graveyard operator never showed up to work that night.. That's beyond the point.. Sharon is just fantastic.. She was just here in San Diego a few weeks ago in a Cabaret show.. she was 1 of 3 women and I missed it because I didn't have the funds to go.. They were each impersonating a different celebrity.. The only one I can remember was Diana Ross.. well this has gone on for ages and I better stop now or this will really be a novel..
This scene drives me crazy, even despite how wonderful she was in it. I mean, she's just been told there's a murdering madman coming after her, and she needs to get the hell out of there, and what does she do?! She sings a big power ballad, soaks up all the applause, and pretty quickly gets brutally murdered. Oy!
Here is some history for you, this young lady appeared on different world season 02 episode 06 the gladis Knight auditions where it was her,Whitley & jarlissa and she upstaged them, she also is the daughter to the gentleman who played bookman on good times...4 ur FYI....
@remyfacade I know they did that; I was very surprised when I learned that "Bring On The Men," which was still in the touring version, and was one of the best moments in it, was at the same time no longer in the Broadway production at the time. I've never heard "Good & Evil," but heard from others who had seen the show w. both songs, that it was not nearly as effective as "Bring On The Men." I'd still love to hear that Sharon Brown will be starring in a new musical on Broadway--it should be so.
Ridiculous...and THAT'S the only applause she gets? I saw a Wednesday Matinee of Sharon as Lucy and this is EXACTLY how she sounded. Also caught her as "Seasons of Love" Soloist in RENT at the Ahmanson back in 1997.
LOVE me some Sharon Brown. She so blew me away in this show (tho I didn't like the show itself very much). Is her "Bring on the Men" anywhere to see/hear around here? Wd love to see her in something now. Incredible, that last note, & her face! Audience mst be on downers, not to muster more rsponse thn tht. Tht mment, tho, was so annoying! He's just told her she nds to get the hll out of there, danger! She agrees, then hangs out singing @ the new life--that she's throwing away by singing! Oy.
@remyfacade Do you mean the fantasy one inside my head, where talented songwriter(s) and book writer(s) create a new show, worthy of her talents, in which Ms. Brown has a great role? I don't have a title, but I WISH it were happening. As I said, it should be so. (Sadly it's not, as far as I know.)
Her voice is incredible but there are some moments where her vibrato drives me crazy. It's so slow (bordering on typical Liza Minnelli slow) and it makes so many things sound off but then the final belt doesn't have any and sounds even worse.
A little theatre history. Back in 1976 Sharon played Dorothy in the Los Angeles cast of the first national tour of The Wiz.
Oh wow!! I wish there was audio of that somewhere.

Is this the same Sharon Brown who starred in the Orginal Broadway Production of Joseph and the Amazing Tech. Dreamcoat? She was GREAT in it.
Yes!
you better hold that note for 20sec sharon WOW
@AvalonMorley She was cast during the Broadway run. They took "bring on the men" out, and replaced it with "good and evil"

@AvalonMorley What's the name of that show?

@falana1234 Gotta disagree with you about "only black people," though you're right about her singing--great!
