The player base dropping could also just be a byproduct of Elden Ring hype
Oh yeah, Spain re-appears pretty late in European history. In the dark ages the powers of Europe barely stopped the Ummayad dynasties advance into France, and spain+portugal spent like 600 years under Muslim rule.
The reconquista starts during most of our familiar nations imperial ages, but Portugal would be the fist to re-emerge.
Speaking of two nations that are very connected, Portugal and Japan actually were pretty heavily connected because of how Portugal's influence actually twisted the Sengoku Jidai: Portuguese interactions with southern japan greatly influenced the civil war there, by introducing guns, artillery, and new armor forging techniques to the islands (The guns mattered a lot more then the others.)
Japans period of isolation actually started because Portugal started trying to make alliances with a few Japanese clans (IE: The otomo)+spreading Christianity, which scared the hell out of the newly established shogunate.
Not to mention that it was the Dutch who told the shogun that the Portuguese and Spanish had plans of conquest, which is why my country was basically the only one allowed to trade with Japan in that time.
The Christian Spanish were always around, though. Asturias never fully collapsed, and the kingdoms of Leon, Castille, and Galicia would replace it eventually. We don't see the full formation of modern Spain until 1492, but the Iberian peninsula was pretty evenly divided from about 1037 until the completion of the Reconquista.
You could easily include a civ called the Crown of Castille, and it would be period accurate and represent the Spanish.
Very accurate comment! It's not only about geographic proximity!
This is quite the good chunk of propaganda. Portugal comes from the spanish kingdom of Galicia, which comes from Asturias and Castille.
Just rename it Castillians if you are picky by the tag "Spain", but it was a thing before Portugal.
You dont deny Germany for UK for having his name changed, yet thet are ingame
4:25 Either the Abbey of Kings has a UI bug, or they changed its healing rate since the original PUP patch notes. Because on March 10th, it looked like "Abbey of Kings healing rate increased from 4 health/1.5 seconds to 6 health/ 1 second".
OMG!!! Arena was my fav map in aoe2 I was 1200 but in this map I could beat 1400 players xD I cant wait to play in this arenaaaa
Sick, I remember playing arena and regicide as a kid! I wonder if those cool masks could be added to the collection of maps for the ladder and ranked.
Sometimes these hour long games are perfect for me when I want to relax a little and just appreciate the game
Great game. Loved the hail Mary at the end
Polynesians could easily have villagers that can cross water without transport ships. Those kinda civs are hard to balance for non-water maps though.
absolutely agree, many people don't do ladder (so then there little left for them in the game), mainly bcs they lose to Feudal rush all the time... Arena is something thy might enjoy a lot!
Love the arena map, it makes it where the individual is able to get up into an age or position where they don't have to worry about getting sniped or taken out in the first 4 minutes of the game. This way they can build and strategies enough where they want to go.
I wonder how would Mongols play on this map. You can't do any early raiding until you get rams/siege towers. But you can easily control the center of the map in Feudal; which I think you can leverage into utilizing silver tree traders. But how much of a boom is that; and how long can you hold it?
I reckon Mongols would want to end the game by castle or early imperial; as they have several disadvantages late game since they aren't able to replace the stone walls, nor put down keeps; and they have worse trebs making it difficult to counter enemy walls and keeps. Although their improved techs does make their siege and armies pretty decent.
For blocking the gate against towers you could create an airlock with a second backwards gate. That way you can still get through, but enemies would drop down in the airlock and be met with a couple stone towers.
34:30 - tc for emergency repairs, since the tech is still bugged after 6 month after release
or simply they didnt fix the techtree
Seeing this game I am confirmed in my feeling that Regnitz with only 2 spaces is not a good nerf. I really think it would've been better to allow 3, but just reduce the gold income per relic. Maybe each one 200g/m. Or 300-250-150. Something like that. Fighting for that 3rd relic is very fun
My bigger issue is that I don’t think HRE can really handle such big nerfs with no effective buffs.
We got to see how HRE evolves. Other landmarks got buffed at least. But I would ve preferred a solution with 3 reliqs as well
@@AndiSamiKnoll I don’t think the meinwork changes really change anything. Feudal MaA are still too expensive to make HrE a strong feudal pressure civ. Burgrave could potentially make for a strong early castle push, but you still have to wait on tech researches for MaA and somehow find the eco to support 4 barracks. Also, if you don’t have relics, almost no way you can produce lands. They cost way too much gold for how fast they die.
Terrible they took away my favorito civ
"Fighting for that 3rd relic is very fun"
HRE would still fight for that 3rd relic. They can shove it into keeps/outposts to increase their damage and range.
HRE actually gets a lot of bonuses for stone walls and keeps, but they are rarely utilized because 3 relics in Regnitz into fast Swabia meta was so effective. Now we might see some HRE players try going 2 TC, gobble up stone on the map, and then translate that into a Holy Site victory.
These are the kind of games I am looking for, I am looking forward to these additions
Wow this game was amazing thanks drongo
Now we just need that WALL guy to start playing this map and have some popcorn
I never liked Arena in AoE2 but I’m still happy to see it. Have fun, Arena players 🙏
Do the rus start with stone walls as well or are they still restricted to palisades ?
ok that Salami & cheese joke killed me
feel like it's weird how the scout can see over the stone walls. maybe it's a good thing for the rest of the game, I haven't played it enough to gauge the balance consequences of shutting down LOS by enemy stone walls in general, but I feel like it would make sense here at least - gives you more space to cook up strats in secret behind the walls - kinda the point of arena
As a portuguese, I really like the idea of Portugal having a chance of being introduced in AoE4 soon! The thing is... I hope they don´t make Portugal a total "water maps civ" (for historical reasons). That would suck, because I would love to play with my nation, but I don´t really like water maps xD
If you play mongols or the rus on this map, would you also get a stone wall?
someone : can you stop saying the f-word??
Drongo : f-word is part of my culture.
honestly it would be wild if they added a zone of control that u had to cap like a sacred site behind the gates. Make the siege towers actually latch on to walls but make them die fast as hell to stone towers.
I'm curious, would Mongol and Rus have stone wall too? Or There is something else on them?
mongols get 1 extra vilager
if its true to the AoE2 version, the Mongols should get the same stone walls to start, they just dont get to rebuild them if they fall.
12:39 favorite scene of the video
Is this map only a 1o1 Map, or is it for 2vs2 aswell?
That backward gate hurts my soul lol
Same. Imagine your enemy found it out starts rushing through the gate with a lot of infantry. That would be a lof chaos to deal with
I would like to see a water themed DLC, with byzantines, venice, swdes and japan
The only map where siege tower isn’t a meme but no one uses when scaling walls early early and into the base through their own gate and maybe battering ram inside would be crazy
THIS MAP LOOKS SO FUN! I CANT WAIT!!!
With the bug fixes and balance changes I think pulling people back in to try again could be very effective. Hopefully they will also have added in new maps + killed feudal stone walls by then
The DLC doesn't have to be free. Not the single player content at the very least.
You have to realize, most people who played the game, finished the single player content and moved on. The single player experience was solid when the game launched. There were no crashes or connection issues with that (and I realize how ludicrous it is to put "connection" and "single player" in the same sentence, but it is what it is). For all it's faults AoEIV released in a better single player state than AoE2:DE and AoE3:DE, which had some game-breaking bugs. Especially AoE3:DE, which could actually crash in later campaigns and delete your progress.
Ideally, when they release new civs, they'd let them be used in ranked for free and then sell the campaign content related to the civs as well as the option to use them in custom games. I don't know if the sales numbers were good or not for the game, but it was on the top sellers on steam at the very least when it launched, so I'd guess it wasn't horrible.
That would let people try the new civs out, but at the same time limit them to just ranked mode, which is always starving for new or returning people. It would also funnel some people into multiplayer, who enjoyed it, but got burnt out because of the springald meta or mongol tower rushes or just general bugs and imbalances which are way better now. I see reddit posts asking about the current state of the game pop up semi-occasionally, so the interest is clearly still there, but people are cautious - my guess is they loved the game, but got burned and are afraid if they get burned again they may never get the urge to try it once more, hence the cautious approach.
My ideal DLC for the game would be two new civs with campaigns and mastery trees, as well as a campaign for one of the four release civs, who didn't get a campaign on launch, somewhere around 15-20eur price range. This would be very similar to how AoE2:DE releases their DLCs, which is a fair price with enough content to have someone who uninstalled the game get the urge to install it again. (You probably wouldn't install it for a short 4-5hour dlc if you were a single player casual who uninstalled it, thus you wouldn't buy it, but for 3 campaigns it would start to make sense).
Its not that the number of players have been dropping off, its just that I bought the game tried running it and realized I need more RAM So hopefully April onwards I can jump right back on the wagon.
THE PIPE TRAIN,!!! lmao!!!
when will this update be available?
thats so funny to see as aoe2 player the map is in there since 2011 i believe
is all jizzed up an Aussie saying i have never heard that reference
THIS IS GREAT
I absolutely loved this game and this made me keep my hopes high for this game, as the community comes to our rescue in changing the way this game is meant to be played!
Are they ever going to bring back the custom build mode where you can put thousands of units on a map and battle it out?
How can I download the mod and play?
Arena looks like awesome and more funny than normal map
Great game, I'd love to see the Ottoman Empire added.
Ottoman Empire was founded in 1299, which is...castle age? While the empires in AoE4 don't always line up well, the ones they picked started at least 100-200 years earlier. Not sure if Seljuks would be more appropriate but some sort of Turkish civ would be a nice addition.
@@danschmidt6206 janissaries ,spahis, and galleys for unique units..
"john from wales" Or murat from Berlin ?
"wait im Drongo" - classic
damn drongo
often you find him in the del(h)i, but you can also find him in the cheese aisle...............................
Yooooo! arena
How can we get this map on AOE4 ?
All the aoe2 veteran summoning to the game
Szalami1 in my opinion is one of the most feared players to go against, I would be interested in seeing him in a team game.
Do mongols get stone walls too? That would be super easy mode
Siege tower viable now?
This map is more of a close approach to maps in sc2, no randomness... which can be good once in a while but definitely not something you wanna/should play always, else strategies will not be as variable.
If they made a paid DLC it would split the player base making quick matches take longer to find and even more players would leave the game
Given the civs we currently have are all from the same time frame of history (roughly), I think it's likely we're to see more of the same, like the Lithuanian-Polish Empire, Byzantines over Ottomans as they were later, or maybe even the Seljuk Empire.
I doubt we'd see the Habsburgs or the Austro-Hungarian Empire as they'd be too similar to HRE.
Koreans and Japanese might be possible, but I think that's likely an outside shot personally.
I had friends from both Lithuania and Poland tell me it wasn't so much an empire as a mistaken marriage.
I hope this game is more fast paced.
Greetings sire! Your Stronghold awaits you!
I feel like English DOES need a cap on how much Gold per minute they can get overall from farms. No other civ can compete in long games like this otherwise.
Was playing yesterday and with a couple relics and so many farms I was at almost 2000 gold/min, mass non stop army of hand cannons and knights overrunning my opponent
Lmao yes. English need a nerf. Bottom 3 civ? Of course, but they need a nerf. Just like HRE needed a huge nerf for having a 50.2% win rate, primarily being picked on really large, enclosed maps.
I really wonder wtf people in this community are smoking sometimes.
just kill their villagers, farms are easy to shut down
Note how the HRE villagers carry 42! food!!
Druids, we need some majick
can't belive they castrated exodia
the other reason they have to make it free is it will split the player base even more
Never played AOE4. Watched a bunch of casts on UA-cam though. Mainly play Starcraft 2. But, I like watching casts of RTS Games.
spain and Galleons and they were definitly the country that traded THE MOST for a while
The stuttering is definitely from modded maps
How do I play mongol on this lol
This is a really good game.. my but is,, that the walls come down to easily.. they really have to have a Bigger hit rate especially the stone walls..
The order should be:
- Vikings
- Ottoman
- Spanish and/or Portuguese
- Dutch
- Mali
First vikings because they raided at distance very early, think North America, Russia, I believe even Donau and Black Sea.
Then Ottomans for controlling the West Asian global market trade.
Then Spanish for circumventing the Ottoman levies and expanding to Americas and Phillipines amongst others.
Then the Dutch for out pioneering the other nations, fast, early marine tech, capital, trade focused but vulnerable in numbers.
After the Dutch it's basically the British which we have with the English and then the Americans...
Finally, the dark horse Mali because it's the age of equality and diversity and who doesn't want to dream about African presence with the insane gold production in the Timbuktu town center.
Greedy build orders: Often you find Salami in a Delhi, but you also find him in a Cheese isle xD Full sandwich
Well is this map available?
I really don't think they needed to limit reginaltz to 2 relics
Castle age? who needs that.. just Abassid dark age siege tower rush lol
Aussie I highly doubt they will release region based dlcs, I do not think it is an accident that the civs are pretty evenly distributed between Europe and Asia. Also aoe 2 was super liberal in it's time frame and what they consider 'empires'. Just my two cents. Great job at N4c, I am intrigued by these 'currywurst'
when is this dlc happening
Bro, for an Aussie bloke, Jesus you can talk.
I would love to see Kingdom of Ghana in a DLC. Unique gold production from trade / taxation and plenty of massive African elephants and camels!
Mabey could come in with the Mali Empire as part of a West African themed DLC. Loads of potential for interesting unique techs and units!
Is the beta still active?
I wouldn’t mind the dlc to have Byzantine, common wealth of Poland and Lithuania, suljuks Turks, the moors, the empire of mali, the kingdom of Ethiopia and Korea
i want schottland. thats the viknigs
Spain, Japan, Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and Byzantine :)
seems like Age 4 is actually making some good progress towards being worth it (IMHO)
i would love a Japanese civ
Does HRE have the worst passive gold generation compared to Rus and English now?
Yes, especially because it depends on there ability to gether the relics bevore they get anything.
@@marconeudecker6533 but even with both relics in regnitz it’s the worst out of them all right?
Enclosure will give you 1 Gold every 3.5s, with is 17 Gold/ min. The Regniz will give you 600/ min. So the breake even point ist with 35 Farms. Thats aktually rather close. It will depend on the Nummer of Farms you have.
I have my eyes on AoE4 since release but didn't buy it yet. If they added a Viking faction I'd be sold in an instant. :D
For me next civs are just logic, Korean or japanese and oriental empire.
Should do that for marketing and players i think both would be agree with that.
Siege tower ftw!
Egyptian won't come because aoe4 focuses more on empires and at that time egypt was under abbasid control after that they were under the ayyubid control so we might see ayyubid sultanante... (I am really excited for the ayyubid horse archers) and we might also see mamluk sultanate . And I would love to see korea and japan...not briniging korea would be sad....I will also love to see ottoman and byzantine heck even a campaign about this two civ would be interesting
Really bro you r uploading the same match twice
I have already watched this match up
hope developers watch the game and fix HRE
Can we already choose color tho?😂
yessss! this map is GREAT! NO FREAKING RUSHING haha.
2:48 drop a battering ram?! Bruv this is probably the one map where making the siege tower would work cheesy strategies for cheezy maps
Talks about that a little later on
I think you are wrong. This isn't AoE2 where all civilizations were (realtively speaking) almost the same (specially when you look at civs within the same specialization). In relatively asymetric approach AoE4 went for, it is incredibly hard to create and then balance such civilizations. There is a reason why highly asymetric RTSes that care about their quality keep to a small amount of factions. That said, It's still love more civs.
On topic of Korea: China allready has one of it's signature units - Nest of Bees (on of many korean war wagon types or (Ha'wacha)).
dont worry :) the player dropoff wont be as bad as in new world atleast :)
if i knew i want that special features early i would have buyed the kings edition :C
i cant play ranked... i cant have the new custom mode :C
Ah, they added a pinch of starcraft. Nice.
Change the game border to hexagon or octagon
I am calling it it's going to be the Hanseatic league and Japanese or Malians and Khmer
