In Sri Lanka, Thelme dance is considered one of the major events held in Low country dance. It is a spectacular event that is performed in Devol Madhu yaagaya. There is a belief that, Thelme costume resembles the King Seraman's royal garments. The Thelme costumes are said to be derived from 12 princes who did the first Shanthi Karma in Ruwanwella. In addition,there is another belief that, King Seraman's royal garments which were embezzled with pearls were given to the 12 princes who did the first Shanthi Karma as a gift of appreciation. Because of the gifted garments were embezzled with pearls,the Thelme costume also described as, Pabalu Anduma (Pearl Costume). The dancers participating for the performance will be dressed in traditional Thelme costume . They will step forward to the dancing floor also know as the Madhu Pola according to dancers' ages. The performance will begin with “Nerangama" (a specific dancing style). Followed by a performance of the seven "Thelme" terms and seven "Iratti" also known as, "Sural" accordingly. Placed in the middle of the dancing floor (Madu Pola) will be traditional equipment known as , Thelme Thatuwa. #gammadu

තෙල්මේ නැටීම - විදේශිකයන්වද මවිත කරවූ අපේ තෙල්මේ නැටුම
ශාස්ත්‍රීය නැටුම් අංගනයක් ඇතුලත් විසිතුරු නර්ථන අංගයකි. නොයිදුල්ව සිදගත් තෙල් වලින් දොලහ දෙවියන්ට පහන්දල්වා මෙම යාගය සිදුකෙරෙති. “ තෙල්මේ තටුව” නමින් යුතු පුද අසුන රගමඩලට ගෙනවිත් රංග භූමිය මැද තබන ලද පුටුවක් මත තබයි. එහි විලක්කු, බුලත්, පඩුරු, ආදිය දොලහ බැගින් තැන්පත් කර ඇත. පසුව විලක්කු පත්තු කර තටුව මත සිටුවා තෙල්මේ නැටීම ආරම්භකරයි. ප්‍රථම මඩුමංගලයේදී චෝල රජ කුමරුන් දොලොස්දෙනෙක් මෙම තෙල්මේ නැටුමට සහභාගි වූ බව පුරාවෘතවල සදහන්වෙයි. පබළු වලින් සරසන ලද ඉතා අලංකාර ඇදුම්වලින් සැරසී නර්ථන කටයුතු සිදු කරයි. තෙල්මේ යා‍ගයේදී ශ්‍රීයා කාන්තාවට ආරාධනා කරනු ලැබේ. ඒකල නර්ථනයන් ආරම්භකොට පසුව සමූහ වශයෙන් ඉදිරිපත්කරයි. ශිල්පීන් පිනුම් ගැසීමද නර්තන අංගයට එක්කරමින් නරඹන්නන්ට විනෝදාස්වාදය ගෙනදෙයි.
