Thanks for a great video. If it helps, as an SD my main or obvious signposts: SDs usually have a BIG cheek area, making their large eyes look small-normal sized. They also look great with BIiiiiG hair!! They feel big (to themselves) but their wrists/ankles/elbows look surprisingly delicate on their frame. Finally, they look best and balanced in big patterns, not small ones.

Do SDs always have big eyes (even if they might look smaller bc of their facial proportions and flesh) or is it more of an optional thing?

@@kalashnikova_mainly optics. They have generally normal sized eyes, (eg Eva Mendez, Ava Gardner) but its mainly the strong bones and larger cheek area that make them look proportionally not huge which gives them a womanly rather than girlish vibe or essence. Eyes that take up more space optically than cheeks ( like Twiggy) give off a girlish vibe.

The kibbe system has to do with how garments need to be made differently to fit different size people. If your shoulders are wider than the rest of your frame, then you need to adjust for width, i.e., make the pattern wider at the shoulders without changing the rest of the garment. To accomplish that, you can use different fabrics, or cuts, or shaping, etc. If your bust area sticks out further on the sides than the top of the shoulder, then you have to accommodate for that curve. To do this, you need garments that allow for that either with the use of different fabrics or the cut of the area at the bust or the garment shaping. If you are longer in the torso or leg/arms, you have to accommodate for vertical. This means that the sleeves, hems, crotch length, inseams, and waists need to be made longer.
Examples: Pure Classics (Kibbe does not recognize Pure Classics anymore but it is a good starting point to talk about the accommodations needed for the other types) would not need any accommodations for their clothing because they are the exact size and scale that the garment was made for. They can use medium weight and medium scale fabrics and symmetry because that is how the garment was designed to fit.
Dramatic Classics have longer torsos or longer legs/arms, so their garments need to accommodate that by being longer in those areas - vertical accommodation.
Soft Classics have a bust that extends past the top of the shoulder at the sides, so we need to accommodate this curve. - curve
Flamboyant Naturals are wider through the shoulder and need to accommodate that extra width, and they are longer in torso and/or legs/arms - width, vertical.
Soft Naturals have wider shoulders and need to accommodate that, and they have busts that extend past the top of the shoulder on the side so they have to accommodate that curve - width, curve.
Dramatics are long in both torso and legs/arms, so they need to accommodate that length in both top and bottom - vertical, vertical.
Soft Dramatics are long in torso and/or legs/arms so need to accommodate that length and they have busts that extend past the top of the shoulder at the side so they need to accommodate that curve - vertical, curve.
Romantics have to accommodate busts that extend further to the side than the top of the shoulder, and they have hips that extend to the side further than the top of the shoulder. They have to accommodate both of those curves - curve, curve
Theatrical Romantics, Flamboyant Gamines, and Soft Gamines are all petite and have to accommodate that by shortening their garments in the waist, crotch, inseams, sleeves, collars, etc.
Theatrical Romantics have busts that extend further to the side than the top of the shoulder, so they have to accommodate that curve. They also have longer torsos or arms/legs, so they need to accommodate vertical (in comparison to the rest of their petite frames). - petite, curve, vertical
Flamboyant Gamines have longer torsos and/or legs/arms, so they need to accommodate for vertical (in comparison to the rest of their petite frame). - petite, vertical
(In my opinion, some Flamboyant Gamines might need to accommodate for width if their shoulders are wider than their frame - width. Kibbe says that if they had to accommodate for width, they would be Flamboyant Naturals, but I disagree slightly due to their petite stature and the way clothing has to be sized down for petites.)
Soft Gamines have busts that extend further to the side than the top of their shoulders, and they have to accommodate for that curve - petite, curve
(In my opinion, some Soft Gamines might need to accommodate for width if their shoulders are wider than their frame - width. Kibbe says that if they had to accommodate for width that they would be Soft Naturals but I disagree slightly due to their petite stature and the way clothing has to be sized down for petites.)
When talking about scale of pattern or detail, then the overall size/stature of the body needs to be considered. A petite frame can use petite patterns, and they would have relatively the same scale as a vertical frame using a larger pattern. Small ruffles on small frames, larger ruffles on larger frames. Small necklaces on small frames, larger necklaces on larger frames, etc.

you're literally the ONLY person in all of youtube and reddit land who is actually helpful about explaining SD and doesn't just go "Oh. Sofia Vergara." Like omg ppl need to stop basing the entire kibbe SD type around her it's crazy stupid. The costume jewelery and hair test just ended an 8 month trial of repeatedly slamming my head against the computer screen hell. Massive extravagent costume jewelery is hardly even noticeable on me, it just effortlessly seams into my body like it's natural and was always there to begin with. Dainty jewlery or a singular simple necklace always looks like I'm trying too hard. And I made this one beautiful deep V super dramatic floor length gown with super crisp angular lines in a deep shiny metallic purple that looks more natural and casual on me than tshirts do. Tshirts always look stupid on me. If I don't dress ostentatious I always look like I'm wearing someone else's clothes. THANK. YOU.

I am SD, without a doubt, but I lean towards pure D, as I am quite yang looking and not very voluptuous. Compared to the SD archetypes I am sharper than most, but standing next to Ds I look much softer. Anyways, I look great in very asymmetrical necklines, AND I look great wearing costume jewelry. In fact, I have some outfits that combine the two. Since I'm rather tall, I don't seem to fit the DC category, but I think that DC lines look great on me as they blend in the yin and yang perfectly and it matches my unique blend of sharp and soft features.

Nothing about me looks sharp in my face, so D. looks over the top, and while the minimal D thing looks good, The starker straighter and more angular lines do nothing for me. I feel like a toned down and moderate SD, that needs some asymmetry, luxury, softness and some flow, but not the Fu Fu grand details, Much better with a minimal and almost no - accessory look. I've been stuck between these 3 for years now - I have huge eyes and soft flesh on a narrow and elongated face, with the exception of a large-to-moderate nose(though small for my ethnicity). Small and taut upper body with a small waist on large and very rounded thighs. The only thing I know for a fact that I need is structure and the only think I know I DON'T have is any width or blunted lines.
    This is a game changer.

It's quite hard for me to say if costume jewelry suits me since I don't like most costume jewelry (I mean the look of it by itself, not when wearing it). I think costume jewelry doesn't look bad on me. On the contrary, it actually looks better than expected but I just don't wear any big jewelry pieces most of the time or no jewelry at all (even though I probably should). Big hair does suit me a lot and my bone structure is rather sharp, also high cheekbones and other sharp facial features but at the same time flesh is more soft/lush which could mean I'm a SD

Great video! It got me thinking about breaking up the silhouette and I have a question. I know that for gamine (mixed) breaking up the vertical line works great. So in this video you say that assymmetry works great for D (sharpened), could one call this breaking the horizontal line? I usually thrive in outfits that break up my horizontal line. For example when I wear a jacket and I leave it open. Or when I wear a band shirt that has a block print on it. It breaks up the silhouette in 3 vertical stripes, sort of like this: arm | chest | arm. And that looks really good on me usually, better than when I don't break up anything at all or when I break my vertical line. I can however break up my vertical line, as long as I also break up my horizontal line like that. I've never found anyone talking about breaking up the silhouette this way. And I'm not even sure if it's kibbe at all. Do you know what I'm talking about and how it could correlate with kibbe IDs?

Wait does SD also have a super small head or only Dramatic? I'm back to being confused. If everything I said before is true and i look effortless in costume jewelery and extravagant shiny and metallic fabrics, BUT they still need to be SHARP distinct lines, continuous lines, i have a super small head (I'm five feet and everyone actively is shocked by that saying i photograph 5'10 -not joking) and when i have costume jewelry on and my natural hair texture is present (somewhere between 3a and 3b very wild thick) as effortless as those things all look on me they BRING OUT the strong angles in my face and make me look even more sharp. ...am I dramatic? Im so stuck between dramatic and soft dramatic. Now I'm really getting convinced I'm dramatic cuz you said it's "the whole picture"

  • @bitrudder3792

That still leaves me stuck. I was leaning towards soft dramatic because I had mixed amounts of taut and soft flesh but The ornate jewelry that goes with it always feels over the top. And balanced symmetry does not work on me. My height puts me in the three tall categories at over 5 foot eight. Pure sharp/straight lines look horrible and harsh on me. My face can't handle it. It doesn't necessarily flatter my body. But the extra wide shoulder beveled sharp FN stuff looks way off and left field for me. Dumpy. Sloppy. Too rustic. Overly revealed in something bodycon. I feel like I am at some point in the middle of the triangle of the three top tall types. Narrow shoulders, wide hips, soft flesh, high cheekbones, tall, better in asymmetrical elongated things that accommodate curve at top and bottom, Flow but with moderation & simplicity. Less is more in the jewelry and accessory department. Boldness easily overtakes me. Having a summer palette makes things even more moderate, though I have fairly high contrast. This video got my hopes up again, Not sure why I want to be put in a box. 😅

@@ritabkat - I love hearing how you analyze your features. Probably because I'm doing it piece by piece myself. Smoky sultry eyes are a big no-no for me. I look like I've been in my mothers make up. And I'm over 60, 🤣. And I'm not like pear-shaped on the bottom for that extra generous romantic curve. But yeah, I also had to get rid of/stop wearing jewelry that has sharp angles, including some black stuff I had from when I was playing like I was a DYT4. Way too harsh. In the world of Olga's ethereal's, I resonate most with the luminous one, but not completely. I have too much contrast, but everything else about the simplicity is spot on. And I like being barefoot or wearing shoes that match my legs.
In David Zyla's world, I'm like a jewel tone summer, and that actually vibes well with soft dramatic. But maybe a little softer than jewel tone just not quite all the way to soft summer. There's a spot called dark summer that fits really well except there are zero light colors in it. Sucks when you live in a semitropical area. I think I should have been born in a beach resort, lol!
I have found it super helpful to paste Headshots on top of photos of outfits on people that fit certain Kibbe lines (more or less) to get a feel for what essence I vibe with the best, and clothing lines in general. I think it's helping. The same themes keep coming up over and over again about what works and what doesn't work. Thanks for your detailed answer, appreciate it!
