Georg is a cello teacher / performer and composer in the Blue Mountains / Australia
This is so true. I usually want to jump into my favorite and difficult pieces first thing in the morning. And I always get frustrated that I can’t seem to even play at the same level as just last night.
👍
Thank you Georg for the light hearted video. That's how I play, for fun. I try to do some initial scales, like you said, with three or four count notes, to get the intonation right. And then on to the fun stuff, since I don't plan on playing in a symphony any time soon.😊❤
Vielen Dank für die tollen Videos ❤😊
Thank you this cello-lesson was so joyfully relatable 🐎🐎
Thank you thank you for this important message! When I began the cello, I didn't have a private teacher. I've never had lessons, self taught. I would get hymnal from church to learn to play my favorites, but melody was in the treble. I figured it out because I loved playing!! I'm currently a cellist in 4 regional symphonies. Our next concert, Saturday, Stravinsky Firebird. You are so right, it must be enjoyable and fun! I must admit, Firebird does require woodshedding.
Amazing cello history you have. I am 5 yrs in, self taught so far, working my way through the first bach cello suite. Playing for pleasure has been my biggest motivator.
@perryrossmusic1672 That's terrific! Keep on going, it is a fine and fun journey!
Great story. Pablo Casals was mainly self taught as was Andres Segovia on the guitar. And they changed some silly technical habits, which were like good behaviour code for cellists. Like I had to play in the lower half of the bow with a book (initially it had to be a bible) under my arm, and only move the upper arm for the the top half of the bow! Creates a tiny sound and sore arm and shoulder! Casals changed that.
@georgcello I'm so glad that he did! I can't imagine bowing with a book under your arm! We are all fortunate that you stuck thru such nonsense to teach a better way. Thank you for all that you do!!!
@@nedheadwyoming Funny story. yes my teacher told so, but - although young - i saw he did it only when he demonstrated; when he played a piece, he didn't stick to his rules! I learned to better watch what people do, than listen to what they say, because they don't even know what they really do!
Thank you for this. This is what I needed to hear. Rhank you.
Thank you Alexis. Enjoy playing to the fullest!
Thanks for another thought prevoking video. Can someone please tell me where GeorgeCello is located? I assume his name is Ggeorge...
Thanks Perry, it's Georg without the e at the end (German version): www.georgcello.com - and then you get to it.
Thank you, I am wondering what country you live in Georg ?
Australia, Blue Mountains, born in Aachen, Germany. Cheers Perry
Btw where are you from?
@georgcello I wish you lived closer. I am from Kingston, Ontario, Canada. A self taught mature cellist, with 5 years experience, started at 58 years old, now 63. I really like your videos, your methods make sense to me, and I like your approach to cello.
@@perryrossmusic1672 Hi Perry, I do actually an online course if you are interested. I started it as a retirement project, both writing a method and the course - keeps me entertained at 71 - here it is www.patreon.com/georgcello
