    Director's Commentary:
It's weird becoming the bad guy in your own story. I think that's definitely what happened over the past few months - obviously being in college is an extreme privilege and all these issues are inherently not that big of a deal. I want to make that clear, even I find myself cringing at a lot of the thoughts in this video. However, it's how I felt at times and it's what I went through.
This vlog wasn't the hardest to edit, or most difficult to script, but is definitely the scariest to post. I'm not traveling anymore and even though that's what the last few videos indicate - I want this episode of the wholesome vlog to show the true colors of this series.
Every episode won't be van life or going on adventures, this series is simply my own attempts at documenting my life in it's most accurate way. The niche is Simon Kim and whatever dumb things I find interesting :)
Moving forward I've come to understand that having this fear before pressing publish is one of the most important things we have. It's a reminder that you are constantly growing and pushing yourself into new territories. Above everything, thank you so much for all your support it's been a hectic ride that has led to so many impactful moments.
But of course I'm still open to everything - if you have a crazy idea or adventure feel free to shoot me a dm. If you want to see the breakdown of this video + other bts sub to the patreon. If you go to the University of Michigan join camping club. See you next month :)

      Ephesians 5:11
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
To all who say that they believe all religions and therefore support all narritives of life:
Then you all allowing yourselve to be deceived and that willingly: Bible warns and reminds us: BE NOT DECEIVED!
Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
1 Corinthians 15:33 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
Ezekiel 14:9 And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the LORD have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.
Proverbs 20:1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
Luke 21:8 And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them.

i’ve been back and forth with everything. i’m worried that in between focusing on my studies, making new friends/hanging out, and balancing my youtube channel, i will only have time to do only 2 of those things. if that makes ANY sense 😂
but this video gives me hope to just go for it and see where life takes me. i know whether or not youtube or college works out for me, i’ll be happy no matter what.

Watching your videos reminds me of my uni years. It took me a while to commit, but it was honestly some of the best years, whether it was all the travelling, meeting new people, working in clubs to keep going, learning about who I was, learning how to question the world, seeing all the different directions. It was so different from who I was before. And I adapted, maybe too much, maybe I lost myself. But maybe it's good to break the pattern to be new and vulnerable. Now, being 30+, I use maybe 30%of what I studied in 7 years of uni and developed my own ways of working, endless creativity. Everything i have been told won't work, is what im doing, lol.
I learned you never wanna have just one job that you love, and you always wanna have a few different ways of income. We grow and change, and so everything around us. When you brave to jump into change, it will always take you somewhere new.
I love your storytelling, always make me cry, I don't know why, but you lose that volume of feeling as you got older. It means things are less intense, but also, the things you wanna feel doest feel as big. One thing I don't enjoy about getting older. So, watching your video helps me to remember. Bitter sweet. But maybe I can bring it back. Love.xx

As someone who has struggled with exactly this and was wondering why I felt so cynical, I came to a massive realisation that shifted my perspective and I think it will help you a lot.
I didn't fear death so I thought that meant I was free from the burdens of society, so I didn't understand why i had such strong anxiety about life until I realised that I had a deep fear of ending up with a mediocre life. I attached everything to it, all my actions were rooted in that fear. I had to accept that there is a good chance I do have a mediocre life and be okay with that before I was ever able to be free from the anxiety that constantly brought me down.

Absolutely loved the video. Had a nostalgic youtube core to it, yet managed to remain very interesting without a jump cut every few seconds. I feel like any good vlog should feel like peeking into someone's life for a few minutes while telling a great story. This was defninitely all of that.

i feel like i can weirdly relate to this. i dont know what i properly want to do in life. i feel as if i had a plan, but idk if its what i want. but i also dont want to put myself in a situation where im stuck and struggling. im not sure where and how im going to be doing in the nest 3-5 years and its stressful. everything seems like a struggle and i always say to myself i just gotta trust the process and everything will be okay in the future. everything will turn out the be okay even if you dont know whats happening right now. and i think that it something that a lot of people need to realize, even myself, and sometimes if difficult to understand.

We need to remember that we don't have a specific purpose in life. We don't have a path to follow. We feel lost, but in reality we are right where we put ourselves. It's hard to figure out what to do with your life, when life has no plan. We should really just remember that stressing about feeling lost is normal, and that we don't have to figure anything out. We should just do what we enjoy and what feels right. Change stuff up a bit from time to time. Take risks.

I graduated highschool last summer and have been doing nothing for the last 8 months. I feel completely lost and don't know what to do with my life. It would've been so much easier, if I could go to college straight after graduation.
If I were you, I would go to college after highschool. Trying to dig yourself out of the hole of no motivation and feeling of being lost is not easy.

As a fellow creative who is also in school, it was amazing watching the emotional rollercoaster that I experience in another person's perspective, but in 19 minutes. I’m a few years older than you. I ultimately decided to drop out of school and pursue my passions. I’ve since travel 48 states and Europe. While I can’t tell you whether finishing school is the right or wrong choice for you, what experience has taught me is that having that degree is a good backup plan if your passions lie elsewhere. Keep it wholesome, Simon ❤

hey, from someone who doesn’t have any passion in school and does not have any idea what career i would have any interest in. Did you work for a while to save the money to travel/ how were you able to accomplish this? Thanks!

    • @CoastalKite
      @CoastalKite Рік тому +2

@@unscriptedintrospection That's a very fair question. Even though I dropped out of college, I work in technology as a product designer. I dropped out to work at a tech startup. I started designing when I was in middle school, so I already had the experience I needed rather than a degree. After the startup, I dealt with a ton of imposter syndrome and ended up taking a break and driving a truck over the road for 2 years, hence the 48 states. Less ideal and picturesque than vanlife, but I was getting paid to travel. Current job is how I afforded international travel.

I was always struggling how I split my time between being a business man/creator and just having a good time with my lovely friends. The sentence you said: „It‘s up to me to decide where I draw the line“, is so powerful. I just often forget that the reason why we do business and create is in order to live a better life, so let‘s always not forget to really live the life we are working so hard for.

Now, looking back, I just miss my friends and all those long nights we had to sleep on campus just to finish our assignments on time. A lot of bonding came from those shared "bad experiences" we had to suffer through together.
