Toadstep should have been in the spotlight more for his neglectful father and used as a contrast to Breezepelt's way of dealing with that neglect, one looking forward and realizing he's still loved and cared for by cats who matter to him even if that doesn't include his dad and optimistic through it all and the other caught up in the past hurts without moving on until those that caused the pain are suffering too. Maybe have him say he was offered to be a Dark Forest trainee as an apprentice with the promise of being just as good a fighter if not better than his role model and how that's bound to get his father's attention. I can only imagine the many different ways that confession could go down with lots of factors, whether he agreed and how long, whether Lionblaze noticed the same scratches and excuses, whether or not the Dark Forest told Toadstep that Lionblaze trained there too once upon a time, the timing of the confession, how Lionblaze feels about being someone's role model, how much Lionblaze knows in terms of Toadstep's idealization of him or if he knew at all, what relationship will be the end goal for them... It's just such a good story for Lionblaze to have while doing not much in OotS.
Daisy deserved better, I always loved her and hated how she was treated by the books and by fans hating her for being a mother. There's so much that can be done with Toadstep and Rosepetal
Fans hate her bc she's a lazy good for nothing useless cat we don't need a permanent nursery queen the idea is so stupid at least ferncloud did warrior training daisy didn't that whining horseplace cat should have went back to the horseplace but left her kits to stay
I just adore how you make me love characters I normally wouldn’t think twice about! You’re really good at analyzing characters! I’m still on your first book in paws of stars, but I’m so excited to see what you do with the background characters! ❤️
Im surprised you didn’t mention the part of the books when jayfeather was trying to earn the respect of toadkit. It feel like it was the most interesting thing that happened with toadstep in canon and i wish it lasted longer, But this analysis is still great. Speaking of rosepetal. I really like rosepetal. An interesting thing with her is that it seems like she is good friends with her halfbrother mousewhisker. From what i remember they have alot of conversations. I just thought that was worth pointing out
I thought toadstep would have had a similar story as raggedstar, a half kittypet, but a clan born one at that, and he strives to be among thunderclan's best warriors, maybe even outright rejecting his non clan born siblings, very similar to how raggedstar hated russetfur. His family life could have been really fun to explore, but I guess it wasn't to be. I love that the Erin's give us all these characters, but I really wish they'd expand on them just a tad more,
When it comes to Blossomfall, in the first half of Omen of the Stars (I don't remember which book) her siblings tease her that she has a crush on Toadstep, so maybe there was some sort of interaction.
these are honestly some of my favorite videos i see, they always seem to be about characters that i really like for having such little development and like. breath a new life into them, makes me so happy to see them pop up honestly also may i say: sunny's art my beloved
The only memory of toadstep I have is of him and dovewing racing. I am hoping dovewing is your romantic option. Dovewing is so stressed constantly and she needs a somewhat care free cat like toadstep to cheer her up. He also does have the same controlling or condescending tendencies of bumble stripe nor the manipulative history of tiger heart. Also fast. I actually find it funny how many times they tell us dovewing is fast. Like Holly lion and Jay are over here being half windclan just chilling and dovewing is over here the little ball of fluff she is bout ready to try out of the track team lol
Toadstep, Foxleap and Icecloud deserved better! I loved the name ‘Icecloud’ too so I was mad when she just died between books. Hazeltail too! Mousewhisker kinda got some attention latest arc so that’s cool
I don't think I've ever thought much about Toadstep or Rosepetal, but I certainly will now that I've watched this analysis. I hope that you do an episode on Rosepetal at some point in the future, because that would be interesting.
Growing attached to a side character as you learn more about their story is something I definitely relate to- recently for an AU I was working on I studied up on Sootfur- really only intending to see his relationship with more important characters in the AU- and as I read more about him and his story I grew far more attached than I thought I would. So much he’s now an important character in my AU than just a side character With this in mind I’d like to see you cover Sootfur. I feel he has an interesting story and I’d like to see your take on him, he isn’t as much of a ray of sunshine as Toadstep is but I’m still interested :3
you've always showed up in my recommendeds but i never watched any of your videos until now and hoo BOY am i glad i did! i love your analysis of toadstep, i think going back and finding cannon things he's done was a nice segway into your own headcannons for him! his relationship with lionblaze is something i've always personally enjoyed and you adding onto it with an extra layer is so nice 🥺 love this sm!
finally another toadstep fan!!!! toadstep & spiderleg are two of my FAVOURITE cats, they’re both super underrated & i’m glad to see someone talking about one of my boys!!!!
A friendship I always thought could’ve been was Toadstep and Foxleap. They’re both friendly, excitable, have sisters that they aren’t particularly close with, and fathers aren’t very active.
I love these vids! Putting the spotlight on cats that are background characters is just so cool! Personally, I've always been a fan of Daisy for one and, although this may be a bit controversial, I've never liked Bluestar. I don't know why, but I just never enjoyed her story arc and I wish they would've done more with Mistystar and the rest of Bluestar's descendants.
I just watched Tennelleflowers rewrite of The Power of Three. He put Rosepaw/petal as Hollyleaf's apprentice - having pushed Lionblaze and Hollyleaf's warrior ceremonies forward and aged up Rosepaw and Toadpaw earlier on. And, later on in the rewrite, Tennelle had Hollyleaf appoint Lionblaze as her 'stand-in deputy'. Lionblaze wasn't mentioned to have an apprentice in the video, so my first assumption was that Toadstep was supposed to be Lionblaze's apprentice. Now you mention Toadstep and Lionblaze had some grounding to go off of, this fit too well.
When I first read the aftermath of the eclipse battle, and Toadstep's reaction, since we never got the apprentice moments, part of me headcanons that Toadstep as an apprentice would sneak away from Cloudtail to learn from Lionblaze instead.
I remember thinking that Toadstep and Ivypool would get together due to their interactions in I think it was either Fading Echoes or Night Whispers but sadly he passed. I haven’t read past DOTC so I hope Ivypool and Fernsong have a good relationship she deserves it
Three of Daisy's four kits had such vibrant and likable personalities, and yet the only one still alive by arc 6 is the kit whose entire personality is "selfish, rotten coward". God I hate Mousewhisker.
heres a story shipping toad and lion because i ship them (spoiler warning for what im gonna say btw) i dont really ship him with briarlight. i am not one to ship briarlight. briarlight is good friends with everybody, and i feel, like jayfeather would fit more IF i liked shipping her anyway heres the story Toadstep had always admired Lionblaze from afar. The ThunderClan warrior’s strength, courage, and unwavering loyalty were qualities Toadstep deeply respected. Despite their different roles within the clan-Toadstep being a quiet, thoughtful warrior and Lionblaze known for his bold actions-their paths often crossed. One chilly evening, Toadstep was patrolling the ThunderClan border near the RiverClan territory when he heard the distant, faint sound of battle. His heart raced as he recognized the growls and clashes of claws. He quickened his pace, rushing toward the source of the commotion. As he neared, Toadstep saw Lionblaze facing off against a group of hostile RiverClan cats. Without hesitation, Toadstep joined the fray, fighting alongside Lionblaze. Their movements were synchronized, each cat covering the other’s back in a fluid, well-practiced dance of combat. Toadstep felt a surge of exhilaration, a rare feeling that only came when he fought alongside Lionblaze. After the battle was over and the RiverClan cats had retreated, Lionblaze and Toadstep took a moment to catch their breath. Lionblaze’s eyes sparkled with admiration as he looked at Toadstep. “You fought well today, Toadstep. I’ve always known you had more courage than you let on.” Toadstep felt a flush of warmth at Lionblaze’s praise. “Thanks. I’ve always admired your bravery. It’s an honor to fight by your side.” Lionblaze chuckled, a sound that made Toadstep’s heart skip a beat. “Well, it seems we make a good team. Maybe we should train together more often. I could learn a lot from you.” As the sun set and the stars began to appear, Toadstep and Lionblaze walked back to camp side by side. The happiness and shared experiences had forged a deeper connection between them. They found themselves talking more openly than ever before, sharing stories and dreams under the night sky. In the days that followed, Toadstep and Lionblaze continued to grow closer. They trained together, patrolled together, and supported each other through various challenges. Their bond blossomed into something more profound. Toadstep found himself drawn to Lionblaze not just as a warrior but as a companion. One evening, as they lay side by side in the camp, Toadstep turned to Lionblaze, his heart pounding. “Lionblaze, I-” Lionblaze cut him off with a gentle touch of his nose against Toadstep’s. “I know. I feel the same way. You’ve become more than just a friend to me.” Under the starlit sky, Toadstep and Lionblaze shared a tender moment, their feelings for each other finally acknowledged. They knew that their bond would only grow stronger as they faced the challenges of clan life together, their hearts united in courage and love.
Honestly since there is a lot of time skipping from Power of Three to The Last Hope, this could be a perfect gap filler, Toadstep being friends with Briarlight and annoying Jayfeather at times, and being friends with Briarlight could help push Briarlight to live. Beyond that your ideas involving Lionblaze are nigh perfect for him and I could see him also getting along with Dovewing going off the canon protagonist route. Personally for me in my retellings of that era of warriors, I switch Hollyleaf and Lionblaze as I feel Lionblaze could be able to become a character like Tiger(claw)star but instead of being evil is someone who is truly good but would rather distance himself out of penance after saving Hollyleaf from Ashfur.

Yeah I've really enjoyed the hero worship into affectionate bond between toadstep and lionblaze

I've always had a soft spot for Toadstep and for some reason ended up shipping him with Foxleap a little ^^;
Uhm I don't wanna be petty but Foxleap is Toadstep's uncle (he's Spiderleg's brother from Ferncloud and Dustpelt's last litter)
@@mangobaum9870 Hmm true but technically regular cats wouldn't know that
I've always loved Rosepetal and I've never talked to or seen anyone else who even gave her a second thought

Toadstep had always admired Lionblaze from afar. The ThunderClan warrior’s strength, courage, and unwavering loyalty were qualities Toadstep deeply respected.
