One hell of a Player. True gent aswell! I saw Newcastle when they came to Ipswich in 1995. I was 12 and ill never forget throwing the ball back to Peter from the stands. We were maybe 12 rows back but he still looked over to me and said 'Thank you very much.'
Peter Beardsley brought joy to football fans wherever he played but nowhere more so than at St James' park. He's my favourite of them all and I'm proud to be a Geordie because of players like Beardsley, Gazza, Waddle, Keegan and Shearer. God, just listen to the way he's talking at the end about playing for Newcastle, about how lucky he is to play for the club. Please God, send us another Beardsley soon!

fantastic attitude, sparkling skills, a will to get the ball back, when he lost it, (rarely), and one of the most beautifully humble football players England has ever had, and one of the most skillful. His ilk will never be seen again in football, sadly
I was lucky enough to be going to Newcastle matches regularly over Beardsley's two spells playing for the club and he was a joy to behold, as a lot of people have already said he didn't get anywhere near the credit he deserved. Nice compilation, bought back some great memories, I'd kill the have a player half as good as him at the club now!
Fantastic job on the video mate, a real great player. I'm 21 so missed all his playing career but me dad's always said how good he was. His goals are never really shown but if he was playing in the sky era he wouldn't be so unheralded i don't think. Unreal!

A unique talent. When Liverpool had Beardsley and Barnes at the peak of their powers. Wow!! I was at Wembley for the wrongly disallowed goal v Wimbledon.
People were always banging on about John Barnes in those days. He wasn't a patch on the hunchback that was Peter Beardsley. The man would attack any1 and they always backed off him.
Love videos like these of all the players of yesteryear gone by. There's so many special players out there that we forget about, so seeing stuff like this makes me remember why football used to be great.

One of my favourite videos. The fact that Beardo with his skinny scratball frame can possess such poise, power and precision is wonderful. Football at its finest. The goals man, the decision making where it counts. Saw him live and was blown away. Half of these goals would be most strikers 'best of my career'. Champion.
I think its time beardsley gets the credit he deserves. I never understand how underrated he is. Being a magpie myself i know how special he really was. I copied the beardsley shuffle in my playing days and it worked lol

Criminally under-rated. The finest footballer ever to pull on a Newcastle or indeed an England shirt. I wonder just how many defenders he left sat on their arses looking stupid.
Most gifted English player ever, if he’d have played for Real Madrid or Barca the fans would have adored him, his first touch was magical his vision and awareness were as good as any player in Europe at the time, the kind of player that didn’t need to train except for stamina , everything else about him was naturally there a genius , forget George Best Beardsley was better....
Peter used to come out to see us train and play on the Vancouver Whitecap reserves, in the early 80's, before he went back to play in England. Meeting him and watching him play, he was always very humble and confident. A real gentlemen if there ever was one. I had no idea that he was going to become a star player in and for England. But thinking back, remembering seeing him train and play. How hard he worked to become the player he did. It is not much of a surprise to me now.
one of our best, what a magnificent player. I met Peter Beardsley (briefly) when he was playing for Fulham (I'm a Gills fan, that game is remembered from a quite remarkable, though not positive reason) but nice bloke, he was way past the apex of his career and his free kick nearly twatted me in the face - I found out I had pretty fast reactions lmao We just won't see players like this any more, Football died around 2005 IMO.
Peter was the Rocky Balboa of English soccer. On first glance most people wrote him off maybe even laughed behind his back but with a ball at his feet he had skill, courage, vision & a lot of heart
Peter Beardsley was a far better player than Wayne Rooney ever was, He made Andy Cole and Gary Lineaker They would be better off giving Peter a call up to honour him, anyone know what's happened at Newcastle and the ridiculous accusations about him ? a travesty he is a gentleman and was a rare talent.
I just dont understand why this man isn´t a worldwide legend of football, I have never hear of him, amazing talented player!!! Hey he looks like Messi´s father!!! and played like he was his son!!
People use the word legend so often, but theres not a more fitting word to describe Peter Beardsley, it was a pleasure to watch him play during my childhood. He was heroic in any shirt, but when he played for England it was magic, devastating to defenders, he must have been frightening to play against. A true role model to youngster, not like some of the drunked arseholes these days, a gentleman on & off the pitch. Probably the best tyneside ever produced....LEGEND! G.carr - Sunderland fan.
