- my students wrote a song. well they wrote the lyrics, i wrote the music. an ode to the korea's favorite pickled dish.
lyrics:
"kimchi in the bathroom, kimchi in the sky, kimchi on the rollercoaster even in july
kimchi in the backseat, kimchi on the plane, kimchi in my underwear, kimchi in my brain
kimchi on a lawyer, kimchi teaches math, kimchi makes you smarter and then gives you a bath
kimchi rain is falling, it makes me feel so good... if i had more kimchi, i'd make a kimchi world
planets made of kimchi, kimchi in my boots, i only eat my kimchi, i never eat my fruits
kimchi kimchi kimchi
kimchi kimchi kim
kimchi kimchi kimchi
kimchi kimchi kim"
(repeat until you fall down)
Uberscheisse, first of all I'd like to mention that I'm a fellow American (Irish) and I know Asia very well, because of my college years studying Far East Asian History. I can tell by your interactions with the kids, that you guys are having alot of fun, but within asian societies, within their way of dealing with things are different then us westerners is what I wanted to point out. We might think its humor, but to others it might not be so. continued
any person who can't handle a little innocent satire or getting poked fun at deserves to sit in the corner being grumpy and offended.
the rest of us are dancing around with kimchi in our underwear, and we're having way more fun than the righteous offended.
"righteous offended". that's a GREAT band name. don't steal it, i'll break off your typing fingers.
Aww, how adorable. ^_^
well it was the children who wrote the words. not me. i just thought it was catchy and beautiful. as well, the students asked me to post it to youtube, and with their parents' (enthusiastic) approval, i took it off the original private setting.
i understand your point completely.
i just think you're wrong.
Mr. Uberscheisse, it is so cute to see little kids laughing and having fun singing a song they supposedly wrote, however do those kids even know what they supposedly wrote? Do they not know that it might be racially/nationally sensitive? In a time when the world is watching, this video (although it might not have been your intent) may cause another biast opinion towards a nationality. Just my concerns, I hope you take this video into serious consideration.
"any person who can't handle a little innocent satire or getting poked fun at deserves to sit in the corner being grumpy and offended".
Although I agree with that statement some-what, but we are talking about an issue with another country sir. I would think and be sensitive about an issue which is not of my own country. If I were to make this vid, and got one complaint from an offended Korean, don't you think we foreigners should respect that, since it would be selfish to think otherwise.
call the police then, champ.
for the first time - THE FIRST TIME!!! - someone attempts to engage me on this video with a respectful tone. i appreciate that.
but if anyone can't get a sense of humor about kimchi then maybe they need to have their little world busted up by a bunch of kids joking about a treasured national dish.
the whole exercise started when we were joking about my friend's dad who died of cancer. someone ajosshi moron said "well, if he had eaten KIMCHI, he wouldn't have gotten sick..."
The Koreans who know english very well on youtube, are very frustrated these days because of several reasons. There is this small but stressful war going on between China, Korea, Japan on the comments area of hundreds of historical, cultural videos. And in my opinion, the chinese, and the Japanese are very ruthless and low class in the way they attack koreans on youtube. So that is why I'm saying not "all koreans" will be offended, but you will always have the others who will. You already know.
koreans' ire, while often justified, has a LONG history of going way far overboard
Would you bother to give an example (elaborate)? I want to know your point clearly.
When I say Chinese and Japanese started a campaign, it is fact based on historical evidence. And it is also true to youtube land, in a third person's perspective it is so, however I'm not here to justify the "Koreans", the main point is this "KIMCHI SONG" LOL
claiming that the chinese and japanese started any sort of campaign of hateful videos is problematic at best.
koreans' ire, while often justified, has a LONG history of going way far overboard.
some of the shit i see spouted by koreans on here and on korean sites is just pure uneducated hate for a bunch of people who are often trying to mend fences...
the hatemongers are in the minority. most people here just wanna rock and don't give a fuck what some moron types on the internet.
