    This guy makes chess so fun and sensible. I have begun to grasp concepts by watching Mr. Seirawan that I was never able to understand before. He's just so pleasant as well

    There are a lot of teachers in this world. It’s rare, but there are those rare few exceptions, of those who have a true gift for teaching. And rarer still is someone who not only has a true gift for teaching, but was/is also one the best in their field. Yasser is a real rarity. To not only have been one of the best in the entire world at chess, but to also be able to teach it so effectively to people across all levels of the game, from beginner to expert. Truly one of a kind, and everyone who is even remotely interested in chess is very fortunate that many of Yasser’s lectures are available online or in his books.

    You know, I've always thought Yasser speaks in the form of a perfect essay. Listen up, students... this is how you simultaneously fulfill the word count, but also lock-in the reader. Excellent speaker, excellent master of his craft, and an inspiration for my chess as well.

    Omg so funny, I watched this video and I go play some chess and my opponent played the b6 oppening and after Sb4 I snapped Kf8 and the game was great and Mr Seirewan is my hero. Kf8! solves all the problems and with fixed centre you don't really need castling. Great lecture!

    As a low rated player, this concept is something I get myself in trouble with quite a bit. Good lecture.

    I'm in love with the Fianchetto and quickly rose over 1000 in chess rating, steadily climbing with a high success win rate. This video will nicely help me get to higher levels against better players that know how to defend against this tactic.

    Fianchetto is Italian word, in our language "CH" = K therefore correct pronunciation is fianketto.

      I played Chess tournaments all over the US in the 70-80s and it was pronounced like Seirawan does here - everywhere in the US. Langauge is living and drifts. Oh well. Take that with a pound of salt, a gallon of milk and stay two yards away. :)

      @@ronj9448 it is a very easy variation.
      I make for sure terrible mistakes when I pronounce english words, but in this case it is really easy to pronounce it properly and sounds much better, at least to my ears😃.
      Fianchetto derives from fianco, in english this word is flank, with k as well, this is why I think it sounds better for english speaking people too.

    Love Mr. Seirawan's lessons and thank you for sharing. It's just that the way he pronounces "fianchetto" sounds weird to me. It should be more like "fiancketto" or something like this.

    • @lqacwaz1

      +winter6470 yes he always mispronounces 'fianchetto'.

    • @giuseppemiosi3716
      @giuseppemiosi3716 8 років тому +2

      fianchetto is an italian word, and means "little side", and you're rigth it is pronounced fianketto, the word that seirawan(i love his lessons anyway) says , it's written "fianceto" and means nothing.... (by a random italian guy)

    • @CGoody564
      @CGoody564 6 років тому +2

      giuseppe miosi that is false. The word he says is obviously "Fianchetto" pronounced incorrectly. It means the same thing because he is in fact intending(thus meaning) Fianchetto. If he were in Italy and were to say it with the hard k, he'd probably get corrected but they would know what he was saying because it doesn't "mean nothing".
      If I mispronounce something, I'm not saying nothing; I am saying what I intend to say albeit incorrectly.

      Salokin92 Surely you were not talking about the spelling? How in hell did you think a French word was spelt 'feign shadow'? And since you knew how it was pronounced, how could it be shadow? Thus, you must have been talking about - as I was - the pronunciation, not the spelling. :)

    • @thr4wn
      @thr4wn 6 років тому

      IemonandIime , you mean the Mile's comment about "moral victories"? If so, the point is that when you play chess not just online for fun but in major tournaments like that, then the stress is higher and you LOVE to get "inside someone's head". That's what I believe his comment was acknowledging.

    • @balloe3466
      @balloe3466 3 роки тому

      I think when white has a kingside fianchetto it makes no sense for black to fianchetto queenside since it would lose rook/bishop

    • @ronj9448
      @ronj9448 2 роки тому

      The joke is Miles would play b6 against everything. Seirawan was one of the few (that I know of) that wanted to stop this "antic". B6 is a hypermodern concept of attacking the center indirectly and wasn't considered a strong move among the many choices of a first move. By playing that Miles was thumbing his nose (or flipping the bird) to his world class opponents. By playing g3 Seirawan was acknowledging all of this and implying that it WAS a strong enough early move to warrant stopping it instead of trying to crush it.
