Fwiw, there are often bugs and memory leaks that cause certain configurations to use more cpu than they would otherwise. I'd recommend checking at least a couple times a year. They are just barely getting to a more final engine. Optimizations aren't coming fast, they are coming though. One also shouldn't use ancient hardware but, I'm not here to tell you what to do.
