Kingfisher ~ BirdCall ~ bird song
Kingfishers are a group of small to medium sized brightly coloured birds in the order Coraciiformes. They have a cosmopolitan distribution, with most species being found in the Old World and Australasia. The group is treated either as a single family, Alcedinidae, or as a suborder Alcedines containing three families, Alcedinidae (river kingfishers), Halcyonidae (tree kingfishers), and Cerylidae (water kingfishers). There are roughly 90 species of kingfisher. All have large heads, long, sharp, pointed bills, short legs, and stubby tails. Most species have bright plumage with little differences between the sexes. Most species are tropical in distribution, and a slight majority are found only in forests. They consume a wide range of prey as well as fish, usually caught by swooping down from a perch. Like other members of their order they nest in cavities, usually tunnels dug into the natural or artificial banks in the ground. A few species, principally insular forms, are threatened with extinction.

I count myself lucky to have seen just one of these beautiful birds.
Ann TwoShoes I saw one by complete chance. I don't if you've seen their true beauty i.e. up close without them seeing you. That alone is impossible. I am pretty sure 98-99% have never seen those kingfishers that I've seen. People walk past the bank every day.
we found we one of them stuck in a sticky rat trap,so we r trying to take care of it until its well enough leave.
i own one
My wife played this today at a canal where we have often seen them and waited and within 2 minutes we had 2 male kingfishers calling and then turn up 200 photos later we reckon this call worked a treat.

I have a Kingfisher that sits on my middle rope on my boat in the morning and evening (since end August 2022) he pecks on a window and sings to me>
I have never been so close to one, a foot away, have got some good photos but he is very quick, seen him land and eat a fish but too quick to get a pic....... so far 🙂.

I had seen a kingfisher in a marsh near my house the other day, been going back each day to try and see it. This eve, I could hear lots of birdsong and thought, I'll play this video to find out if I can hear it. As soon as I did the kingfisher was out flying all over the place. I was able to coax it out loads of times and get some great shots!
leave it undisturbed
I saw a ton of them when we were swimming in the river
Thank you so much for this video .
My favourite bird is | Kingfisher
I had a marsh behind my house, and this was one of many creatures that was a common sight. Also had a few white-breasted water fowl, as well.

Too bad they're not vegetarian. Otherwise can be a cute pet.
I don't hear a Kingfisher all I hear is a chirping and what sounds like oars slapping on the water.
Jan Normand That 'chirping' is a Kingfisher.
Ann TwoShoes ok. Well around our place, I live in town, I hear a bird that makes a series of "cacacacac" together and fast. The kind of bird sounds familiar but I can't figure out what kind of bird it is.
Jan Normand Sorry, I'm no expert, I can't help you but try listening to loads of different common birds on here, you might hear it!
Sorry I didn't mean to sound harsh. I have listened to other sites of Kingfishers and I think that is what I have been hearing around our place. There is a pair of them that dive for mosquitos and stuff and they make a "caw, caw, caw" sound.
Who cares little boy my
sorry sound
