I can forgive blue shift for being so short it wasn’t supposed to be it’s own game originally it was the extra mode for the Dreamcast port of half life but since that wasn’t released gearbox just released it as it’s own thing
I think that Blue Shift is actually a well-polished sweet short game. Excluding the Xen tunnels it’s really enjoyable even though it doesn’t bring a lot of new stuff to the table
@@doctorfaker391 yeah, I found that Blue Shift is more relaxed and mind-based game and the room are very mood-based
@@doctorfaker391 Both expansions are like a *greatest hits* version of Half Life, taking more or less the full game experience, squishing it down to remove some of the fat, with a couple of new additions for some extra variety.
@@doctorfaker391 Indeed, I must say, I enjoyed Blue Shift a lot. It was short, but great addition.
"large pits"
"half life's less than self aware ai"
yep hes definitely been watching his hlvrai
I mean what about everyones favorite spinoff Hunt down the Freeman?
@@muggerpugger3231 Exactly, finally someone knows quality when they see it
@@zache4821 Yeah, the story and dialogue are PERFECT!! I really felt when Mitchell said "You fucked up my face"
Fun fact about Blue Shift, it was originally meant to be released on the cut Dreamcast port of Half Life, which is probably why it strips things down to basics, and the DC port was used as a base for the PS2 port
"A detached barnacle functioning as a grappling hook to cross *large pits*"
Almost like a rope
2:18 That's called a P.C.V., powered combat vest.... I think.
"A detached barnacle functioning as a grappling hook to cross large pits..."
...Coomer?
“Who makes jump left bumper?”
Mirrors edge does and it’s a game primarily based on jumping
It's great because it only potentially interferes with the left trigger, which you can use the middle finger for in a pinch. Jumping with a face button basically requires you to stop aiming for a moment.
Same with Dying Light and Transformers (Armada). Saw some others say some HALO games did too.
There it kinda makes sense, as it's all about jumping. Decay has it, but it's not the main attraction of the game.
If you go through the tutorial on Opposing Force (which you should because it's actually kind of great) you learn that Shephard is wearing a PCV (Powered Combat Vest) which is sort of scaled back military version of the HEV suit.
Uplink was my first experience with Half-Life and I played it over and over again until I finally got the full game. It's hard to describe how unbelievable the experience of playing Half-Life was when it first came out.
“Who makes jump left bumper”, well I guess you’ve never heard of bumper jumper lmao
I know it didn't have that exact control scheme but Ape Escape had some wierd ass controls
The worse "spin-off" is Hunt Down the Freeman.
I put spin-off in quotes because I don't consider it as a game
is not a spinoff just some idiot made that and for being a spinoff in needs to be made by valve
@@eatinhoes338 but all of these dlcs were made by a company other than valve
Gearbox were actually really good back in the day. Between Half-Life expansions and the PC port of Halo 1, they had a really solid reputation.
if you want more Half life, I recommend Blue shift, then Opposing force, then a mod called Half life: Echoes. Echoes needs Half life 1 to run, and while opposing force focused on combat, Echoes focuses on Half lifes Horror elements more. its quality rivals the official expansion packs.
"Who makes jump left bumper?"
A large chunk of Halo players who don't want to let go of the analog stick you use to aim to jump, melee, and throw grenades. It's a superior control scheme, bumper jumper.
It depends on what options you have. For Halo, you have one type grenade (iirc, haven't played it). For games like Cod, you have a tactical grenade, which is gonna be on the left bumper (yes, Black Ops 4 changed this, I know). Don't get me started on people who use the bumpers for ADS and shoot.
@@LazyJesse Halo has Frags and Stickies, and a couple more in later games. You swap out between the types with a different button, which im pretty sure is on the d pad
Valve actually did that for the Xbox 360 release of Portal in the Orange Box. There are alternate jump, crouch and use. I personally prefer the X, A, and B buttons, but you do you guys.
my control scheme in halo ce is:
Lt - crouch
Rt - shoot
Lb - flashlight
Rb - zoom
other bindings other buttons
So yeah
all the buttons are for shooting gun
Or you can make
Lt - give a punch with stock or cqc
Rt - go pew pew
Lb - throw a grenade
Lr - switch grenade
(You can use standard or switch cqc with grenade)
AND THIS IS WHY WE NEED BUTTONS ON THE UNDER SIDE OF THE CONTROLLER!!!
That's how i play every fps using the right grip for jumping and the left for crouching.
Thoughr that I only loved Payday.
Boy I was wrong.
4:19 “OF doesn’t affect the main plot line” yeah, it’s not like a major part of the expansion ends up the reason that half life 2 exist
"to get over large pits" "Less than self-aware AI"
I see someone has been enjoying Wayne's content just as much as I have.
Great video as always. Half-Life 3 might not ever happen but it's surprising how much Half-Life content there is. Decay could honestly do with an official release on PC. Not sure what the legality with that would be seeing as Gearbox made it.
Well HL:ALYX is basically a teaser for Half life 3 so don't say it will never release
@@Mark_Lou hl alyx is chronologically half life 1.5, if we were to say its half life three than technically itd be something like half life 6 if you include spin offs and episode 1 and 2
@@rtasva oh boy, i really need to fix my vive and play it, i kinda dont want to watch it but if i cant get my vive fixed ill probably watch it. but that comment did make me excited
A detached barnacle to cross large pits?
"Look Gordon, ropes! We can use these to traverse pits!"
I usually play through the levels from Uplink with the Uplink Addon for Half-Life 1 since that is a near-seamless transition without taking much away from the original Half-Life experience considering it takes place during Freeman's travel through the Lambda Labs anyway.
Uplink was my first introduction to the game after seeing the boxed game in stores and not quite 'getting it'. I was a quake/unreal player at the time, but after I tried Uplink, I was *very* curious about the full game. . . .unfortunately I didn't get to play the actual game until well after I got out of the army (2004 ish). But man that demo stuck with me and I still remember some of it to this day. OF was also really fantastic. Didn't care for BS, but it was still fun.
Thanks for the video!
On the pc version of Decay, to unlock the vortigaunt map, you need to solve a hidden puzzle in one of the missions.
By the way, each character does have an AI but can barely defend themselves, oh and they can move through ladders.
The reason for Decay co-op being mission based was because some chapters and stories being cut and, I presumed, no alternative to fit the deadline.
also the PC port for Decay were developed but never release due to "power beyond (Gearbox's) control".
You know there's a PC version of decay that fixes all those issues right? Mods ftw.
2:45 Look, Gordon, ropes! We can use these for big pits.
Back in the days I used to play a really old pirated version of Half-life and I could have sworn that uplink was a part of the base game, as in it was a map in the campaign.
I vividly remember jumping in the wrong portal in Lambda core and being teleported to the beginning of Uplink, and didn't get back until I completed Uplink.
I actually like opposing force more than the original half-life.
@@iliketypodesnice2841 I don't really know why, it's been a few years since I've played through any of the games but I just remember having a lot more fun with it. Especially once you get some of the alien weapons later on. I would recommend you try it out though.
Congrats for the 100K dude! Well deserved and finally here. Came for Payday stayed for Connor. Thanks that we have you. Really really deserved ❤

Of course! Except Uplink, we don't talk about that one.
Did you guys catch it?
First he said "Playing through half life 3..."
Then he said "... different times"
Half life thr- okay it sounded better in me head.
“OF hardly matters within the extended universe”
Gene Worm terraforming earth:”Are you sure about that?”
I recall playing the Uplink demo on my 486 DX2 I had bought from a classmate. It had lousy frame rate, but the entire game ran slowly, so I could still fight. Then I built my first PC from new parts, and the game ran smoothly.
I'm so happy for youuuuuu getting 100k subs!
I loved the video btw and I especially loved the hlvrai references hehe
"Look Gordon! Ropes! We can use those to traverse big pits!" - Dr. Coomer PH.D
If you are watching this as of 2024, Uplink is now Bundled with the original HL on steam at no extra cost!
They are definitely expansions, and not spinoffs, but otherwise an excellent video. I loved all of these, and no one ever talks about uplink. Instasub.
Uplink - As the description shown in the video says, you can also download a stand-alone installer that doesn't require you to own a copy of Half-Life to play it, although installing it on modern versions of Windows may be problematic, due to Windows generally piss-poor backwards compatibility. There's also a mod to add Uplink into the Half-Life campaign, although I'm not sure exactly how that works, since Uplink doesn't really have an ending, it just fades out during a fight.
The PS2 port - You can play it with a USB keyboard and mouse. It's one of the few PS2 games that support doing so. I'm not sure if you can plug in two mice and two keyboards for playing Decay though.
Just got the valve game pack and this was a great way to show me which of these games are actually worth playing
Thanks
Half-Life: Decay is the best game in the series, and I will die on this hill.
I love how almost everything in the blue shift clips in into the rhythm of the song
If you type in Impluse 101 - give all weapons you get the revolver, crowbar, crossbow all that stuff that’s not available in a opfor
The gearbox Expansions makes the original Games feel like 'The Twilight Zone' and 'Goosebumps' Anthology's where each story or episodes takes place in different perspectives or different events that happen while the series is about the same Incidents but different events. Like how the Halloween series was going to do that for 'Halloween 3' but people hated it so they brought back Michael Myers in 4. But Halloween 3 felt more like a reboot like Doom 3.
I really like the expansions, it tells you that There were other people other than Gordon is surviving the Black Mesa Incident. Like we have to know about the other other scientists and Security guards escaping or the HECU trying to survive through Black Mesa.
I just finished Opposing Force and didn't ever realize the alt fire on the displacer cannon did that. I thought I just kept getting damaged
playing half life decay by myself was one of the most difficult game experiences I've ever had
the spin offs really feel like new content and a new experience, not a recycled version of hl1
2:45 *Look, Gordon! Ropes!*
The Decay campaign is also playable on some Sven Co-op servers
it's so nice knowing that as of now we won't have to mess with the files to play uplink 🙏
Decay’s PC port by fans was endorsed by Valve and even featured on the Steam updates news page.
Short answer: yes.
Long answer: yeeeeeeeeeees.
Fun Fact: Blue Shift was originally intended to be exclusive to the Dreamcast port of Half-Life, but that port was cancelled, so it was made another PC expansion.
If the Dreamcast port saw the light of day, then each of the 3 main versions of the time would have had 1 expansion each: Opposing Force for PC, Blue Shift for Dreamcast, and Decay for PlayStation 2 (Uplink is more of a demo).
I personally love uplink, whenever I want a quick half-life experience I play uplink, I've actually learned some tricks and skips on uplink.
Plus its nice to have extra half life any way, made by valve too, I believe.
Look gordon! Ropes! We can use these to get over large pits!
btw - uplink can be "merged in" into HL (lambda reactor teleporter puzzle) instead of played as stand-alone ...
half life uplink was added to the base game in the 25th anniversary update, i always play it when i just want to play some half life but i don't want it to be long. it's just 1 chapter.
Very nice video, Half-Life Decay is what GoldenEye needed: an official coop mode
This is extremely pedantic but the abbreviation for Opposing Force is “Op4” not “OF”
Short answer: Yes
Long answer: Yes
I wonder if Valve took inspiration from Rise Of The Triad when making Uplink?
Don't know what I'm talking about? The shareware version of ROTT is called "The HUNT Begins" and has a totally different set of levels, a different selection of music (nothing unique, though) and its own ending, serving as a prequel to the registered version, "Dark War", with the player restricted to using Taradino Cassat and serving as the scouting mission Cassat was on right before the start of the main game. You can play the shareware levels in the registered version, but you get the registered version's music selection and ending, so it's not quite the same experience. I kept the shareware version around even after buying the full game for just that reason.
100k! Congrats!!!
You can use a USB keyboard on PS2 and it works with Half Life
100k, hope that's 101k soon, just found your channel.
Happy 100k mate :) But also cute profile pic change.
The weapon model thing in Decay is probably because it's already having trouble with rendering 2 views, so it can't handle the weapon models.
But it might just be a bug.
I've played all Half-Life games except Decay and Uplink. Need to play 'em soon.
"Who makes jump left bumper?"
Battle Royale streamers :
on the ps2 port, me and my friend used to play the head-to-head mode a lot more than Decay
the amount of gman dialogue references in this video...
Imo:
1) Decay (The best by far. Coop was so fun and very replayable thanks to its ranking system)
2) Blue Shift (Short but well made and reminds me to HL2 EP1)
3) Opposing Force (I didnt enjoyed it too much)
You should play Echoes. Amazing mod, and for me fucking canon. Great work and love letter to HL. I would say greater than the official expansions. "Expansions" now that dates me.
Yay for good recommendations!

I am *_SO_* confused. I played Half Life 1 very recently for the first time, and I remember playing uplink. But I did not download any additional files. How?? How did I play uplink?? My head hurts just thinking about it.
Some days ago i tried to speedrun Hl OF (i got 3 hours) but at the end at the boss. I used the teleport cannon alt fire and when i got trough the portal back and i instantly got to the Gman speaking section. Maybe a bug?
