I lost my brother , Paul Bailey a marine who died in a tragic accident in Norway many year ago. I was unable to attend his funeral and told my mother that I would have to visit his grave when I was able. The sound she made over the phone still rings in my ears and she told me that I wouldnt be able to do that as he was buried at sea........ It has had a profound effect om me all of these years not to have been able to say my farewell. My mother was amazing as she absailed down a block of flats in Aberdeen for a marine charity when she was 76 ! She seved in the same regiment as the late Queen.driving ambulances. She had five of us kids and four of us all served in the Forces........ She deseved a medal and she cherished her veterans badge which I still have. Well done guys.
I served with Paul as a VM at Stonehouse Barracks and was on duty in Norway when it happened. Tragic. Some of us went to his wake held in, the Holiday Inn Hotel (I think it was) on the Hoe in Plymouth and watched as his ashes where scattered from one of the LCVP’s from raiding squadron. Very sad situation, as he was up at the Sgts. Mess celebrating his recent promotion.
Not an ex serviceman, but in awe of these guys for their service to this country and displaying an incredible way to live as a man. As a civvie I salute you
Outstanding, I’m in awe and humbled by the sacrifice of these men. Thank you for your service and God Bless each and every one of our Royal Marines Veterans and servicemen
I have nothing but total respect to the RSM and all of the blokes. Typical Marines. Cried watching this. Lost my twin brother 3 weeks ago. Only 61. My own military training and discipline is getting me through day by day. Just about to go out in the snow for a walk. It's tragic that this once great country does not properly look after veterans from all arms and services. The blokes form and set up Regimental charities and do their own fund raising. The Government should help fund them all properly. It's a disgrace. Well done to all of you. Keep Yomping. I'll keep tabbing. we are all cut from similar cloth. Respect.❤
Surround yourself with positivity, avoid negativity. You know the score, fresh air and excercise clears the head. A distraction for your brain still processing your brothers passing. Keep a haad
Well done everyone, I was APTC and worked with many Royal Marines including Knocker, Dave Thomas, Ceri Williams and many other in North Wales. Very proud of being associated with you all.
I did the 30 miler for the RM charity in 2018, also in support of an exped to cross the atlantic by a team of former and serving RM rowers. I only carried 25lb, but still managed to get in with the main group at the 7hours 55 minute point. I was 57 at the time!
My dad who’s still serving, did the London Marathon this year carrying weight.. 20kg. absolute inspiration, the lot of you.. thank you for your service 🙏🏽
As a Para Veteran, I want to salute all of you. You are a true inspiration to veterans who may be experiencing some difficultie. Sir, Fellow Veterans, Support Team and Your Families, I have witnessed some amazing feat's of courage in my 65 years on this planet. This one is at the top of these amazing moments of courage. Murph
Tremendous; you all did your Corps extremely proud. Your words about life after Service resonated with me. I'm ex Army, as is my brother. My son is currently serving. Oh, I should also mention my nephew who was a Royal at 45 and Poole 😉 All the best for the future to the team, support staff and your families.
In life sometimes you only realise how important and meaningful periods of your life are once they are in the rear view mirror - I still miss my time in the RN even though I am an old geezer
Fantastic effort by all involved! Could speed marching be the new alternative to the local running club? Especially for teenagers. I've watched my local running club and as much as it is a club it is still you on your own, but with the speed marching it appears to me to be more about teamwork, pulling together with one goal in mind. I'm sure most towns in the UK have ex-service personnel that could teach especially younger people how to build stamina and teamwork, too much of today is about me and I want it now! When It should be us and together we can reach our goal. It could be open to all ages with the older group learning to speed march with no weight, but their challenges are time over distance, whereas the younger groups could be weightless, 10 kilos, 20 kilos etc...... I'm 60 and as a kid, I remember getting swimming certificates within our class, it created competition in a positive way, and it made you want to reach that next level and that was brilliant. It shouldn't charge fees as such, all money required including if someone wanted to run it as a side hustle would be by way of car washing or a sponsored bike ride etc, this could be one event or multiple through the year, this way rich or poor you all start the same way. The British love to support a good cause and a group of people pulling together to earn the money to pay for the kit there group needs is as good a cause as any. Well that's my ramblings, It's just a thought!
Great work guys but if you’d really tried you may have got in the paras lol! Just having the crack! Thank you for being unbelievable and the greatest men alive
