- This video taken whilst driving around Welshpool on a Monday in March 1991 sees the construction of the Flash Leisure Centre, the construction of the by-pass, how the railway station looked, a Crosville bus, WR Davies' garage, market on the short stay carpark behind Town Hall, field that is now the Rhallt nursing home. Wow......a time machine! I kast visited Welshpool a few months before this film was made. My dad bought his first car at WR Davies'. Ford Anglia Super, reg. PEP885. I was about six and remember watching the wad of notes change hsnds with amazement. ....so much money!
I spotted so much that was familiar, Gungrog Road, (I have family living on Borfa Green), the entrance by the Smithfield to Cae Glas where my grandparents lived in a council prefab and that wonderful station........they may have obliterated the old platforms but at least the building remains. Changed beyond recognition now, all of it, but great to see it again. I'll be visiting in next year and it'll be interesting to see what I can see. Thanks for the upload.
I noticed the lack of Welsh in the road signage, especially only 'Slow' painted on the roads and no 'Araf'
