sir john maxwell primary in the early 90's - the main area u walked into was the canteen. the door on the far left was the head teacher's office area. (32:02) the gaelic medium primary 5 class was at the far end of the yellow room - we went in from the red door on the right next to the double doors (33:06). (34:08) - behind u there is a door which was the primary 3 gaelic medium classroom. to your right past the stairs was a toilet. (34:44) - the gymnasium. on the right in the middle of the wall was the equipment storage room. 1st door on the left was english primary 4. second door on the left was primary 4 gaelic medium.
thanks for documenting these places. i went to SJM primary, and it was sad to see the state of it, but your vid of the interior brought back memories.

I suspect the main reason they stopped using these buildings is the enormous amount of money needed for upkeep and heating. And while beautiful, they don't make very efficient use of the space. This is the case with many older buildings, unfortunately.

Once again lads you have excelled in your craft! Watching this production and your BBC Scotland interview, made me feel so proud for you and the exploration efforts that you provide to your viewers. The Sir John Maxwell school brought back many memories for me. Although I was raised and brought up in Paisley, I served my engineering apprenticeship in Glasgow and in the 80s when I had moved on to be Transport Manager with a Glasgow based coach company, we provided daily transport to the school when the Gaelic Education Unit was based there. Was so sad to see the condition of the school now but loved all the filming that you made of it and the other schools. These buildings deserve to be saved due to the foresight that seen them built in the first place.
Your BBC interview really showed your commitment to Urbex and regardless of its legal status, without individuals like yourselves making these videos, then lots of the buildings would be lost for ever with no records to look back on, so I fully applaud you for your efforts and hope that your viewers support you by what ever means they can even if that is just by subscribing and liking your videos.
Keep up the good work and be safe and take care.

Sir John Maxwell was well maintained school, whilst the Gaelic school was part of it due to the funding it received (it was situated in the middle floor with the open plan) Once the Gaelic school outgrew its accommodation and relocated. Sir John Maxwell was left to decay up until it’s closure.
Such a shame you were not able to reach the 3rd floor to see the gymnasium.

Loved the first school there. Before the comprehensive school system and merger with Allan Glen’s selective school in 1972 it was called City Public. My mum was a pupil from late 60’s. Was great to see inside with you guys. I’d visited recently after losing mum but just outside the school. She grew up in a street directly opposite that was lost thanks to the development of the M8 and destruction of old Townhead.

Hello Marija, I had exactly the same thought. How could a building that was closed only ten years ago be in such bad condition? Dampness, of course, but I am guessing that a lot of the damage has been caused by vandalism. It is such a poor reflection on Glasgow and its administrators.

Amazing video, thank you for doing this. I went to Greenfield for most of the fifties, finally moving on to Govan High. It was a fine school, and I always think of it fondly. The pool was used a lot, by schools in the area, including the high schools, youth clubs, parents clubs, and swim clubs. Connected to the pool building was another building, that was a weather shelter for the playground on the first level, the upper level was a bakery, and again students (all girls) from other schools would come to use the baking facilities. I feel not enough was done to rehabilitated this school for the community. With the swimming pool, the bakery and also a basement gym/general purpose room. Good memories though, even the snow ball fights with the kids at St Constantines across the street !

watched the adventure with some sad thoughts... at my age now I feel for the kids of today.. no feel for adventure, sit with a mobile, laptop or one of today's technology gadgets, (of which I DO appreciate), but perhaps I was fortunate in my life not to have bad encounters etc, at my young age of maybe 10 I often left early on a Saturday morning along with my pal and literally trekked in all directions around Glasgow.. cross the Finnieston ferry, through the very old Clyde tunnel, cycled through the other tunnel , found where Shawlands was, Ibrox, Springburn, Yoker Ferry, chain pulled, and onto Renfrew !!!. always back safe and sound, but as said, I was probably lucky.. I always found empty buildings that were "open" so explored all these MANY years ago.. hope you never lose the urge to explore..

I worked at a school in Gouda (NL) for three years of which the building was around a hundred years old. It added so much to the atmosphere in- and outside the school! Such a shame these (once) beautiful buildings are left to decay or are even demolished. Modern school buildings are so sterile and lifeless, it’s much more fun to teach at and attend a school with a great history.

WoW! Nothing short of amazing! I probably watch way more then my fair share of these Explorer videos, but I've not had one that's pin me to my chair like this one in a while. You guys have really stepping up your game with each video you produce. I applaud you guys for the work you put in. With this one, I particularly love the flashback shots from previous visits to the same location's and the historical photos that you find to add in too. As for the buildings themselves though, the artistry in the metalwork is purly stunning, we don't get anything that orante in such moderd schools these days, or any other buildings for that matter. Architects certainly don't have a chance to put some type of imagination into newer structures anymore.. It's all on bugdet!
Anyway, this one was an absolute joy to watch (as always) and I'll probably be watching it again soon.
    I ovate you!

Thought you might like a litle update on the Stirling Maxwell school. Following a further collapse of the roof, it has sadly now been decided that the building is too dangerous to save, and will now be demolished. They have said they will try to save as much of the original stonework and architecture as possible. Very sad about this as it's such a beautiful building and deserved so much more love and attention. Of course, this decision may also be due to the fact that so many new houses have been built around this area lately...

I really do not understand how the people who run these council get away with abandoning these buildings. Firstly it costs to keep them even if empty. If they sold them immediatly they become surplus then they can be converted into offices, apartments, shops, restraunts and they would get more money for them.

I jave an interest in old abandoned schools and keep getting dreams of them. For the most part, it's either me dreaming of my school and then finding a blocked of secret hallway of the original school design and would look something like this. Old, rundown, kinda creepy with the chipping paint and color choices, but still beautiful and somehow still in good condition to where it looks like it's still salvageable. I would also get dream similar to it but instead of a school, its finding a secret room that has the same asthetic as the school or an old abandoned Victorian dollhouse. Even if scary and uneasy, I still love those dreams.

The roof collapse at Sir John Maxwell is from the amount of neglect, vandalism, the stripping of metal leading to major water damage.
Fire was NOT the cause of the collapse. If there had been a fire, there would have been a lot evidence of charging on the outside and even inside. Not to mention that it would have been left to burn to a point of not making it worth trying to save and would most likely have been fully demolished by now.

It's somewhat odd that you would do interviews and put your faces out there given that some people would consider some of your visits inside various buildings to be illegal.
