CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Henry (Macaulay Culkin) demonstrates his homemade crossbow for Mark (Elijah Wood) by shooting a bolt at the neighborhood cat.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Macaulay Culkin tries for a change of pace playing a schoolyard psychotic in The Good Son. When 12-year-old son Mark (Elijah Wood) is his mother's side as she's dying of cancer, she makes him promise her that she won't die. When she does die, Mark is consumed with grief, as well as guilt that he couldn't keep his promise. Mark's father Jack (David Morse) has to go away for a two week business trip to Tokyo shortly after his wife's death. Thinking that the blustery Maine environment will do him good, he drops Mark off with the family of his Uncle Wallace (Daniel High Kelly). At first, Mark is withdrawn, but soon he begins to warm to his Aunt Susan (Wendy Crewson), his cousin Connie (Quinn Culkin), and particularly his cousin Henry (Macauley Culkin). Mark and Henry pal around together, but Mark begins to notice some of Henry's ideas of fun differ significantly from his own. For example, Henry demonstrates his homemade crossbow by killing the neighbor's dog, and shows Mark his dummy (called "Mr. Highway") that he drops from an overpass onto a highway, causing a 10-car pileup. Mark begins to suspect that the death of Henry's baby brother wasn't an accident, and it appears Henry is now making plans to rub out his sister. But when Mark tries to warn Henry's parents of their son's homicidal tendencies, they refuse to listen to him.

I always thought it was a genius idea to have Macaulay Culkin as the antagonist villain in this movie. The whole world saw him as this cute, adorable, innocent kid, and that just made this so much more terrifying.
Yeah, but unfortunately, I think that that's what made it a hard sell. The world saw him as cute; they didn't want terrifying Macaulay Culkin. Thoroughly well-made movie, though.
Macaulay did want to be the antagonist in this film though. And in my opinion, he did a fantastic job at that. Henry is supposed to be this psychopath child similar to Michael Myers (Except Henry was still willing to simply talk), and didn’t even show emotion towards killing and attempting to murder. And Macaulay did amazing at playing a cute, but terrifying murderous child.
Sometimes you gotta avoid the typecast roles in films
Same with casting Tom Berenger in Platoon
It was a hard sell and I thought he was going to be the, "Good Son" but he played this role great and showed us his versatility as a actor. Unfortunately he did NOT grow up in to a adult movie 🎥 star or even cast in small to medium rolls. I believe as a adult he did theater in England acting in plays
This movie is seriously underrated.
Lightning4563 way underrated
u damn right. Better than home alone
It's very flawed but also very interesting. Many people couldn't take him seriously, but I found Culkin totally believable.
no its not, people highly rate this movie
Foreal. The fact that theres kids like this growing up to be sociopathic serial killers. They dont make em like this anymore.
This movie really was amazing. Very dark, but extremely amazing.
By amazing I don’t mean I liked the killing and stuff, I mean it was good movie
a Hamil fan it was ok, but not realistic. You great watch goodfellas and casino
@@Djhiphop1000000000 that's mafia.. this is psycho kid killer lol 🤦♂️
gus dee i mean fine, shutter island n no country for old men then. Much better.
Dude you’re stupid this movie sucked. “Amazing”? Gtfoh
He was aiming for the cat but missed. "Great shot, Yeah but the sight is not right yet"
Reggie Rodriguez he said that caise he didnt kill the cat and it was a good bow
Yeap. Creeapy
Well he wasn’t listening to him
He is just a shitty shot lol
Congratulations. You understood a basic scene....idiot.
Sheesh imagine if Marv and Harry broke into Henry’s house home alone😳
Ohh lord
They survived Home Alone and Home Alone II. I think they would survive this action too.
I doubt it henry eluld kidnap them torture them then kill them.
This genuinely made me lol
That would've been bananas!
Glad the cat wasn't killed.
It wasn't part of the script.
Like in “Alien”
True, but what about Mr. Highway??
He said the sights not right yet
Thank God.
The fact that his cousin thought he missed to spare the cat, but at the end you can see he really wanted to hit the cat and was disappointed he missed, love the twist.
That cat lives the Thug Life
Lyzk3l DankMeemr fuck yea
Kitty was lucky
Thank goodness the cat never returned. He or she wouldn't have been so lucky.
0:29 did anyone notice a hanging doll
Let’s do drugs, and come up with stupid ideas.
Lets not
If it was then Harry and Marv would have been dead at the first trap
Nah but brutal LMFAOOO 😂😂🤣🤣
Well he is a murders lunatic in both of them so
@@devinrenshaw9083 Keven wasn't a lunatic, and he wasn't a murderer
0:56-0:57 Elijah's adorable😍😍😍😍
The misplaced whimsical music as they head to the Murder Shed.
Exactly.
Pretty much home alone music
I think this music was meant to be mis leading. At this point Mark feels like he is on one adventure after another. Also when they open the door if I remember the music changes fast to something eerie.
Thank You!!!! The music from start to finish was absolutely horrible!!!
@@creamfiend84 Lmao imagine if John Williams scored this.
This movie was dark and disturbing. Macaulay was amazing in it, really great acting.
The kid playing mark. That’s Frodo Baggins! That’s Elijah Wood as a kid everybody!
Yeah haha. He still looks like a Hobbit
Courage Wilkerson That’s also wirt
Imagine if he died here, middle earth would be doomed
Explains why is able to handle the ring Power all the time he hung out with Macaulay Culkin
Nawwww... gee... Really?
Mark: "what a great shot!" Henry thinking: "I missed."
This is what became of Kevin after all he went through with Harry and Marv.
Kevin was like this he would’ve killed Harry and Marv, and it would’ve been no sequel 😂💯
I've always wondered why Mark didn't have a reaction to "the sight's not right yet"
What did he mean when he said "but the sights not right yet"
+Sam ONeill He meant to hit the cat and he missed. Mark thought he missed on purpose until Henry shot the dog.
+Karen B it probably just didn't cross his mind at the time. remember he doesn't suspect henry of being a dangerous sociopath as we do while we're watching the movie.
Because the character is kind of a moron. Basically everyone in this movie is slightly stupid or insane and unaware of how deeply wrong this kid is.
joiless I like the movie, but can still see your point,
I think someone should tell him crossbow bolts are not the same as literal construction bolts
Elijah was so cute as a kid "What a great SHAAAT!!"😂😂I love that little guy man!
So glad that he missed the cat.
N K it has 9 lives so if it Got shot it stil Got 8 lives but yeah me too😂❤️
1:10 The cat was like - What the heck? :P😂😂
"Meow
Didn’t even flinch🙌
It is both worlds: Home Alone and Lord of the Rings!
Before Henry revealed himself to be a psychopath...
This kinda looks like the typical “Having fun with best friend” scene.
The cat looks very innocent.
I would have reported by meowing.
They all do. That's how they fool us.
Why didn't this win an Oscar?
Because barely anyone actually cared about this movie
it's Home Alone meets The Exorcist.
+Jessy Leppert lol
+Jessy Leppert no its home alone meets the lord of the rings
ik right
LOL
You mean Home Alone meets The Omen
He missed because cats have 9 lives remember that
You sure about that? Lol. I've seen more dead cats on the road than opossums
Seth Winters maybe the cat wasted its 9 lives already :)
Pretty Boy maybe I can torture the 9 lives..
Nine lives for cats is true? How? I thought it was only a myth
Well that's messed up how are you laughing at a animal's death?
So that’s what Frodo was doing before he had to return the ring to Mordor.
While Sam was looking for One Eyed Willy's gold.
Little bastard wanted to kill that cat.
Crystal Dominique ikr but that aint all did u see the recut of the car crash scene
Now why didn't he just use that in Home Alone?
Too dark.
He used alot deadlier methods in Home alone :)
Like frying a person's head off with a mini flame thrower.
Actually a badass crossbow kid lol
So weird seeing Kevin and Frodo on the same film
I thought Macaulay Culkin was the, "Good Son" but he played this role GREAT and showed us his versatility as a actor. Unfortunately he did not become a movie 🎥 star as a adult as many child actors did. I don't think they even cast him in small to medium rolls as a adult. I believe he did plays in England as a adult
He’s in one of the newer seasons of AHS
They should've named this movie " The Bad Son." Especially when Henry pulls his sisters hair, and tells her "You are not allowed to come into my room! Never!" And lets not forget Henry was about to throw a huge rock into his mothers head when he threw her off the cliff pure evil right there.
well yeah, but that's the point. everyone thinks he's just this great kid.
a twist or plot development angle i wish had been included would be Henry's environment/interactions. like what other kids in school knew, liked, or hung out with Henry vs not, vs simply being just another kid on the ___ team.
edit: someone else's comment, if Mark and Henry had run into bullies in Henry's town, that would be a very telling interaction if scripted properly.
Kevin McCallister was more evil than the two previous Home alone movies and Frodo Baggins always learns his lesson from Gandalf and his Uncle Bilbo Baggins.
When I first saw the name, I thought
"Oh this'll be a nice little movie!"
Nope...
Hahahahaha
This movie is the answer to the question: "what if Kevin from Home Alone was evil?"
Kevin McCallister wanted a partner named Frodo Baggins to helped him with his evil crimes. But Frodo see”s darkness in his cousins eyes, just like he saw the ring in his eyes as well. That is why Frodo won’t be a part of his evil deeds that won’t cause any trouble. Since Gandalf taught him to be wise and fulfilled his destiny to destroy the ring and kill his evil cousin.
awwwwww jigsaw when he was a little boy lol
1:08
The cat's reaction haha
Macaulay can do it all good bad weird he is a amazing actor
Dark version of Home Alone to me.
aw baby elijah is the cutest
And like if you like Ellijah Wood.
Yea but the sights not right yet 😂😂 the look on his face 😂😢
I remember my dad laughing at the cat's reaction with the bolt just barely misses.
This is why you don't have children.
Not all kids grow up to be homicidal maniacs
Wait til they get into the workplace and manipulate and bully their way into management.
deraj nitram shut up im a child
No you just can’t have them if you can’t read people and you’re not active in their life.
Lmao in case one of them turns out to be evil?
I like this film, not because of Henry being psycho, but because he uses manipulation, grooming, and gaslighting to fool all of the adults. Sometimes adults really underestimate kids, and this is a warning to them- don't underestimate children....
This what happens when you treat poor old Kevin very badly he turns into a psychopath who wants to kill everyone
Imagine if Kevin was like this in Home Alone.
*What Henry said* :
"Yeah, but the sight's not right yet."
*What Henry meant* :
"The sight made me miss the little furball."
Good movie
What a cool Crosbow.👍👋🇦🇹
If Kevin was like this he would’ve killed Harry and Marv with no hesitation😂💯
He was definitely aiming for the cat.
But he failed anyway.
Trinity Livingston So I've shot cats for my uncle on his farm with my 12 gauge. Barn cats get in the way
Henry is wearing Freddy Kurger's sweater! I am sure Larry and Marv would have loved to see Kevin fall off a cliff screaming!
I bet if there was a group of bullies that threatened to hurt both Mark and Henry, then they'd end up getting hurt by Henry himself.
scripted properly, that would be the most awesome plot tangent/character development of Henry and the town he lived in. perhaps ending with one of smarter bullies realising a look in Henry's eye that he WANTS to physically hurt them, or to convey sudden silent gut feeling of "i should leave this one alone" then verbally speaking "c'mon man, let's go"
or one of bullies pull knife. Henry calmly "go ahead. jugular's right here. it'll spray all over!" like he was to Mark later into the movie.
once bullies skulk off without touching either Mark or Henry; any visiting cousin, who has not yet figured Henry out, would likely be impressed.
@@Numantino312 That is a well thought out plot!
@@sujaxonic9866 am about age of Macaulay Culkin, and totally wanted to be like his character (except for the murderer part).
you know that badass/he totally doesn't care what other people think aspect that so appeals to any middle schooler?
i actually cut fingertips off my gloves and bought the nike hitops he had
it looked really cool tho i was still a dork, lols
Like if you like Macaulay Culkin.
HMU with ur number girl 😉
Henry dies for his sins
I've got two things to say in this comment.
1. I thought Macaulay Culkin and Elijah Wood made such a great team and wish they could've appeared in more films together.
2. I always thought this was Macaulay Culkin's last GOOD film before his popularity starting going down. I only say that because in 1994 he was nominated for WORST ACTOR for 3 films in a row "Getting Even with Dad, The Pagemaster, and Richie Rich". I think it was for that reason and his real life parents divorcing around the making of Richie Rich that he decided to take his 9 year break from acting. I think it was for other reasons too but I think those were two of the reasons. Macaulay Culkin and Elijah Wood rock though!!
He lost the Razzie anyway.
Elijah Wood was good lucking back in the day
Henry's one of my favourite ever movie characters
I love Macaulay in this movie. I'm watching it right now
Mac is a mean freak there.
Mac should have won best villain at the 1994 MTV Movie Awards. Alicia Silverstone won for "The Crush" (which i like too) but I honestly think Henry is the better villain.
Karen Mysti I agree with you so much, he is the best evil child for me.
I have both movies and both are jump starters going from there fun heroic good personas to evil disturbing and twisted its beautiful. Lol high quality acting.
I agree culkin did better as a villian then silverstone but she was great too!
Childhood movie!
When Kevin Mcallister meets Frodo Baggins.
1:09 Smart cat!
Cute too. Their voices are so adorable "Meow"
1:10 the cat- what the hell..? Meow:-) lol😂😂
Cat's meow.
lol i cant believe i used to watch this movie when i was a little kid.
They should be proud of having made this movie! It will live on!
This is like home alone
Always loved this movie
Man McCauley can slide into every role
The amount of engineering skill to shoot a bolt into a tree is some evil version of Tony stark type thinking
I think the only reason people keep calling this kid Kevin McCallister (and making alot of Home Alone references in the comments) is because Henry looks almost like him. Just a couple inches taller and slightly longer hair. Those are the only two differences.
In fact, I thought that in this movie he has a little different face from Kevin. Maybe it's the acting facial expressions and also the hair length
What type of movie would The Good Son & Home Alone be like if they were mixed together?
Imagine if Damien from the Omen somehow teleported to this universe. Together those two would be too powerful for the world to handle.
Even though I'm an adult and I feel like it's hard to watch little kid movies about kids when I'm an adult I have watch this movie many of times as an adult and I find it a actually a good movie it's it's a it's a gripping movie and I watched it so many times I can't even count
Frodo and Gollum in their younger years
His career never recovered after this movie and Elijah's skyrocketed. North and so on
Yeah idk why. Macaulay had one more good movie after this with richie rich and it was over from there. He had a good 4 year run though. A decent actor. I think it was the drugs. But macaulay left us with good movies.
The Good Son Was One Of The Best 90s Horror Movie
This Movie is a Classic 😤💯💪🏾 remember I went yrs without seeing this movie.. but mac culkin performance on here always made me remember this movie.. he so sinister & manipulative as a child this is definitely slept on
Has anybody noticed that Henry is Kevin from Home Alone?
“I made my family disappear...with a gas mask, gloves, hazmat suit, a saw, acid, plastic drums, and a shovel.”
Bruh I REMEMBER this movie as a kid ah man lmao. I was THRILLED when he died in the end way back then in the 90s when I was about 5 😂
That is one of the most evil characters Macaulay Culkin ever played! Kevin McCallister from Home Alone(1990) was a "good natured kid" who was misunderstood. Actress Bonnie Bedelia is a biological member of the Culkin family. She acted in the 1974 TV movie Heatwave. She also played John McClane's wife in Die Hard(1988).
Wait Kevin played in home alone and this is called the good son he looks similar to the one who played in home alone why does his parents always forget their own kid 🤣🤣🤣
I vaguely remember seeing adverts for this movie when it was first released, but never gave it much thought, or had any interest in seeing it. Then just the other night, I came upon a video of Siskel & Ebert completely panning this film in their review, so it piqued my interest a little. I may have to see it.
This movie is very detailed, everything he had was linked to how he was a bad person because the end of his crossbow was an emblem of a car
Theres always a good guy and a bad guy
I like the Buick Regal front sight
His grown persona would make a great joker or mad hatter
He reminds me of my childhood "friend" Gary. He was pretty twisted.
I dated a guy like “Henry”. Broke up with him when I saw him for who he was.
The kid is actually a genius - I'm 29 and I couldn't make that.
Am I the only one that was worried about the cat
R.I.P Kevin's Good Cat:-:-:-:-:(1987-1993)
Cause Of Death:(Killed By Henry Evans)
Elijah Wood was on Happy Feet 2006
This inspired Scott Synder in the creation of the Robin King in DC comic’s Dark Nights: Death Metal series.
So no one's going to say anything about the hanging doll in his shed?
Just noticed it, can’t believe it took this long to find a comment about it.
Imagine the ideas he would have come up with if the internet was a thing back then.
That movie had one of the most satisfying deaths
