I'll never forgive them for making Tawnypelt's novella about the tribe. It's titled Tawnypelt's Clan! Why wasn't it about her moving to Shadowclan and her father?!

Cus for me TNP is just… okay. And it gives book 2 & 4 something to do beyond. “Yup we woke up. Walked. Ate. A THING HAPPENED TO SOMEONE/EVERYONE?! Don’t forget! Crowpaw has to be an ass once a day or more! Ok time 4 sleep.” Every single none Leafpool chapter.

We’re at a point, which we’ve actually been at for a while now imo, where the series needs a reboot. There’s ~100 books in the series and most are required reading to understand what is even happening in the current arc books which makes it very hard and extremely daunting for new readers to hop into. We need a huge time skip to happen and start off with a completely brand new cast. Reintroduce us to the Clans through a new outsider joining a Clan. It’ll be the perfect opportunity for the Clans to change their way of life/behaviors/relationships without spending many many arcs inching in that direction. This would be the perfect new entry point for new readers, a re-entry point for old readers who fell off and want to get back into the books and long term readers who this would be a breath of fresh air to and also lead to a lot of discussion and theories on how exactly the Clans got there. They don’t even need to stop writing about the current timeline either as there’s plenty of opportunities to continue their stories through super editions, novellas and graphic novels.

    • @Sunnyfall

That is the absolute ideal. I don't know how likely it really is to happen (in ~3 years at least considering the new arc) but it is and has been the best direction for the series to go.

maybe we could return where we left off with the dawn of the clans timeline, would be very different and to me interesting. After all, I always thought throwing the entire old forest map away after just one season was a waste. I can accept that this idea might be off putting to some readers but it would be a very clean cut to all the dealt with materials. Of course skipping into the future may very well be interesting too but it leaves so many things open for the authors to decide, thus being more difficult to develop new stories perhaps.

@@LibraryofAcousticMagic3240 Returning to DOTC era would also be great. We’re getting a Riverstar Super Edition next year, though we don’t know when that’ll be set (for all we know it could be about his time in the park and what he was during during DOTC) but hopefully it’ll be set post Shadowstar’s Life and have potential for a good lead in for an arc. Returning to this era would be good because the warrior code hasn’t been formed yet and the Clans are still very new. There’s loose plot threads they can pick back up and show how the Clans struggled in the beginning and how they dealt with the changing of leaderships before the code about deputies was created. I wouldn’t mind following that timeline for several arcs, would be interesting if they go into some of the code being formed in them throughout the generations but for that to happen they’d have to actually routinely entirely kill off the cast over and over to make sense with what we currently how of the timeline.

@@aLostNym Yeah killing off casts would be the other issue. Maybe it wouldn't be that bad actually seeing as some readers may be fed up with reading ANOTHER scene with previous protagonists in it that are sometimes too much in the background (personality wise, I'm looking at Firestar in the new prophecy).
With the warrior code being about 15 paragraphs it would be hard to put them all into one arc or make all the time gaps needed. However, it seems as though codes 1,2,3,8,11,14 and maybe elements of 10,12,13 have already been implemented when we left off. Sure, most of them weren't outright called a law but they were already in practice via convention. So this new arc(s) would mostly involve creating the warrior code itself and dealing with laws 4,5,6,7,9,12 and 13. I feel like we don't have to talk about 15 and 16 (the amendment that all clans must cooperate in a time of crisis) again, because we have already read about them enough. For anyone's lacking memory: 15 is Pinestar's order to look down upon kittypet's way of life.
With that it becomes manageable to tell a story since we only need to know about seven of the amendments in detail. 4 has mostly to do with the cats attitude towards their ancesters and 5,6,7 and 9 all deal with a clan's class system and structure. 12 (the code that says you must watch out for kits of other clans too) is interesting, because it's a bilateral law. And 13 (A leader's word is law (which I HATE)) is it's own separate can of worms.
Instead of being with the clans when they name a custom an amendment to the code, it would be preferable to look how the custom itself came to be and how they used to tweak it when necessary before it became a law. Not all laws were custioms beforehand, sure, but there has almost always been something similar to it in the cats' everyday life. And that is exactly what I would find interesting. Besides, there are also some storylines that need finishing and some cats I would like to revisit, even if it's just for the prologue(s).

@@LibraryofAcousticMagic3240 I think most long time readers would be fine with the cast completely changing often, it’s more so the Warriors Team seem to have a hard time killing off long time characters, especially past protagonists and important characters. We still have arc 1 characters and there’s been 7 arcs in the modern timeline.
Yeah some of the codes could have beginnings that could be explored in an arc before they officially become part of the code as shown in Code of the Clans.
It would be so interesting to see how the Clans settle more permanently in their territories and how they come to interact with each other and outsiders. The Clans are still so small where we left them in Shadowstar’s Life so it would be interesting to see how they would accept outsiders in order to grow and how they interacted with each other before the codes about forbidden relationships and Clan loyalty solidified. See wars that last generations, see them deal with different sicknesses, evil leaders, invading groups, civil wars and so much more. There’s so much of the Clans history that can be explored.

Honestly, I think this might be a big reason why people are so mixed on the more recent arcs. Instead of basing themselves on the first arc, which is a competently written self-contained story. The other arcs keep trying to twine themselves in with other characters and arc, but not the most recent stories we've just finished, but the older stories, even when those stories should be complete.
Not to mention the Broken Code promised big changes to the code and then just... did nothing. Which is unsurprising, but frustrating.

Something that bothers me about the latest arc (a little late to the party) and I dont know if any bodys talked about it but here is a direct reading of The Silent Thaw: p.308
-Tigerstar snorted. "A warrior would never try to harm the Clans."
"Really?" Squirrelflight stared at him. "I suppose you're too young to remember the Great Battle."
"I know we lost Clanmates," he growled.
"They were killed by cats who used to be warriors," Squirrelflight mewed darkly.-

I've read New Prophecy. In fact, I'm on the last book, Sunset. And I can say that, while yes, I did love the plot of 'Oh, we have to find a new home' and 'Oh, there is evil among the clans' I want to say that: THERE ARE WAY TOO MANY SIDE POINTS IN THIS ARC. The first half we're all travelling books, and at least stayed with the plot. But the second half literally takes off in all directions. Theirs finding the Moonpool, the battle between Mudclaw and Onewhisker, Leafpool and Crowfeather romance, a badger attack, and they literally do NOTHING to advance the plot in Twilight up until the battle between Brambleclaw and Hawkfrost

THANK YOU. this video perfectly expresses all my thoughts over the last few years. i've been saying this for a long time. TNP relevance and importance NEEDS TO STOP ALREADY. it's been YEARS and they keep relying on those same characters and similar plots OVER AND OVER. i just wish all TNP cats would die so we could focus on the more recent protags we've had. u're 100% right about the newer arcs not touching on the more recent previous arcs, but instead STILL relying on TNP and Po3 era cats! what about alderheart? twigbranch and violetshine? AVOS was so poorly slapped together that TBC barely acknowledges it!

Honestly I loved TNP, it’s always been my favorite series in all of them, and… idk I love how the foundations of that has carried over for so, so long. TBC really felt like it should’ve gone back to the perspective of the TNP cats entirely, it felt like it was still their story. It’s interesting and strange at the same time how warriors has set a rule for having fully new characters every new arc. I wouldn’t mind if they could just continue from the perspectives of the characters they want to tell stories about haha

Okay so this video is a bit older but I’ll give my point of view anyway.
I was introduced to the Warriors series around this time last year, and I was fully caught up as of around March thanks to the fact I could listen to the audiobooks while working and driving. While I love this series and all it has to offer, I have to say I was exceptionally disappointed in how fast we left the Forest Territories.
The first set of books was written so well that I had a clear image in my head of what everything looked like and where everything was in relation to each other, and the copious amounts of landmarks were fantastic, with Four Trees, Mothermouth, and Sunning Rocks to name a few. Only for us to be sent somewhere totally different immediately after.
I’m also going to say, I’m not sure if this is a hot take or not, but I’m really not a fan of the three-protagonist-structure.
Firepaw/Heart/Star being our sole protagonist of the first arc meant that a lot of the goings on in other clans were largely left up to us to find out about in gatherings, which meant that scenes in books that had them were always a great moment for shocking reveals. For example, if the first arc took place with multiple POV characters, I can almost assure you that the plot twist of Tigerclaw becoming the leader of Shadowclan as Tigerstar would have already been given away.
There’s a line in the newest book as of this comment where some cat says “the clans aren’t enemies anymore”. Which is something that all started back in New Prophecies and cats becoming friendly during the Great Journey, and that leads to a big issue these days of a random villian coming out of nowhere.
Evil cats aren’t organically grown anymore because the clans are at peace. So they just make one up.
