Kaushiki Chakraborty is an Indian classical vocalist. She attended Sangeet Research Academy and was one of the exponents of Patiala Gharana. Her collection covers Khyals and semi-classical Thumris. A classical Hindustani vocalist and daughter of leading musicians Pandit Ajoy and Chandna Chakraborty, Kaushiki was raised at the Sangeet Research Academy, which is where her father taught. She sang from the age of two, with her mother, her first teacher, and also toured nationally and internationally with her father, sometimes singing at his concerts. From age 10 she studied with Gnan Prakash Ghosh, before beginning a period of study with her father at his Shrutinandan music school. She is one of the exponents of Patiala gharana. Her repertoire covers Khyals and semi-classical Thumris. She is the recipient 2005 BBC Radio 3 Awards for World Music in the Asia-Pacific category. Although Kaushiki Chakraborty’s repertoire is predominantly Hindustani music, she has also studied Carnatic music and from time to time has incorporated aspects of contemporary Indian pop music, thus considerably widening her audience. In addition to her music studies, Chakraborty has also studied philosophy, gaining a first class honours degree.

Yes the training was rigorous. If she didn’t feel like going to school on any day, ‘DAD’ said fine no problem but do riyaz from 08:00 to 16:00 which she did and yes she has a brilliant academic record too a Gold Medalist in Economics from Univ of Calcutta
