For this video I will be trying to fix and original Xbox Disk Drive that won’t open! It also appears to have no power!

Just a good way to fix the drive when it won't open. Cleaning is always a good idea, but it is not necessary to replace the drive belt, it is best to boil it out in water. Then he regains his original form and costs nothing. I always replace them, but I don't have to. I think the Philips drive is the best drive, but that is personal.
for how long? have a lot of problematic ogxbox dvd drives with this problem

For real? Every Philips I’ve had has failed me eventually lol
I fixed a stuck tray by using silicone Vaselin on the tray gears, I changed and cleaned a rubber band with rubbing alcohol from an old PC DVD Rom.
Furthermore you can clean the laser with rubbing alcohol.
Once done, don't forget to remove the clock capacitor , and if you the XBOX versions between 1.0 and 1.5, you can flash the TSOP with a new bios.

Check the laser eye for scratches, or if it's aligned properly, if the disc is fine then the laser is probably the culprit
Make sure the long screws in the bottom of the xbox aren’t too tight or they will stop the tray from extending.
It wasn't a faulty connection, because the Xbox would report an error. Maybe just the spit and polish was enough, stuck DVD tray is a common error.
The disk tray just won't open, I did everything but it just won't, do you think some of the plastic melted and molded the tray shut? (This is at least a third hand og xbox that I recently got, experiencing the same problems as the one in the video but the tray won't open)
is this the same for the x360? i have 3 and none of them open...
thats what my box is doing got trey to open close again got everything cleaned well. then i put a disk in and it popped up a message saying disk doesn't work scratch/dirty but its not that the game is almost perfect clean so idk??
This was really helpful. Thanks for the video. It took a couple of tries but I got the drive working again. Then I heard some crackling and popping and I think the power supply blew. lol onto the next thing!
the disc drive ob my xbox won't stay closed wen a game is in it. Very weird. And there is a lot of dust inside my xbox.

But I wanted to mention that Halo CE also acted funky for me, I got a copy from Game XChange here in the US, and multiplayer worked fine, but campaign gave an error like this. Not sure why only the campaign doesn't work, but all other games work fine :P
tHANKS FOR THE Video, i got one of these Xbox OGs today at my local Carboot fair. I had been opened as the stickers had holes in where the screws are.
I did not have a Video Cable or Controller, when i powered it on i had a green/Orange flashing light, i had heard you need a video cable to sort that out. The Disk Tray was Stuck, so i left it for a few hours while i went up to my local Computer Store C.E.X to get a Controller and & Video cable which i was able to get. Video Cable was £6, Controller was £12
I got home and stuck the video cable in to the Console and TV Via HDMI convertor. I had a black screen, but the Power light was a steady Green light, i messed around changing the HDMI to other Slots onthe TV, and it suddenly started to show the Xbox Screen on the TV.
The Drive was still stuck, so i took it apart, took out the CD drive from the Console. I took of the Rubber Band and stuck it in hot water for 2 minutes, replace it back in the Drive, and powered up the Console, and Guess what the Drive started working right away.
I got the Console for just £5 at my local Car Boot fair. the cost of the Video Cable & Controller cost me £18 in total, so not bad for £23 in total, i did also buy some medal of Honor games for the Xbox and the first game worked like a Gen.
I have 2 that look great inside and the disc drives don't work for some reason
Did it work eventually with no message errors? Maybe with Halo 2 disk?
I have a disc that stuck in my original Xbox but the tray opens and closes but the disc won’t be in the tray

That's the version b philips original microsoft xbox dvd drive it has a black cover over the lens
I've got a samsung drive that won't open with the metal housing on the top, if I lift the metal a bit, it will open....I dunno
Sometimes the magnets are too strong. I’ve put a couple small pieces of electrical tape on it and it worked fine. Worth a try. Add/remove pieces of tape as needed.
I replaced mine years ago with a new one. Didn't use it for years. Then I tried it the other day and didn't open immediately. I had to push eject a few times and tinker with it. Finally worked. But I don't get what was wrong. Is it because it was idle for awhile?
Same thing happened. I hit it hard on top of the disc drive and it actually opened but I need a permanent fix...

They should be on ebay. Do you mean there was no bank in the disc drive? It is needed open the disc drive

its usually the elastic band in there that messes up from the dust over time
When I turn on my hacked vita the next day it has a black screen and the green light stays solid the flashes and repeats is there a way I can fix it

I wish for console clone that can play ps2 games and original xbox games, because of disc errors.
It opens that is a start. my guess: The laser is broken/scratched or need a little recalibration. time to chip it and upgrade it with a new SATA drive or SSD ;P
my first step to refurbing my xbox, it needs to fix the eject issue and I want to replace with a new hdd and hopefully update the software
do you have any tutorials or recommended videos for installing a new hdd and updating the software on a chipped xbox?

Rule of thumb' a good drive belt is the exact size of a 2 pence piece if it's bigger it's worn out : - )

Also just try to clean the rubber band inside of it thats what won’t let it open for now try to safely forcefully open it what i would do is just smack the top and then i just cleaned the band
I watched PennPC do it and I was like what the f*** I did exactly what he did but then I saw the part where you said if the rubber band is even slightly twisted and mine was so that was the problem.

Because the Xbox uses just regular PC drive IDE connector...

wish someone would fix my bricked xbox original, i messed around with a soft mod and tried switching hard drives now it's knackered, i was told if i flash mod it that will fix it, but i can't solder for $h*t

@@TechJames no because i switched the HDD and messed up the EEPROM and HDD serial keys
You can check Mr Mario2011 his channel he did a video on upgrading his Xbox and had some tools to clone and fix up his HDD, mabey you can check it and give it a try.

You should really study Micro Soldering and some other things, It doesn’t make alot of sense to call something a repair when you just kinda plugged the ribbon back in when it probably just got loosened and you might need it later since you are in the Retro Console and Handheld modding community. Remember nothing is unfixable unless it is incinerated or turned into a different form of matter 😂
My guess is that hair and dust did the trick lol.
