The music of Broken Vow was co-composed by Walter Afanassiev and Lara Fabian, inspired by a classic piece of Rachmaninoff (Piano Concerto N°2 in C Minor). Walter Afanassiev, an american/brazilian from russian descent, is a legendary composer and producer (he composed some of the greatest initial hits of Mariah Carey such as All I Want for Christmas is You and was the producer of the Titanic soundtrack that brought Celine Dion to WW fame). He is also now the producer of Dimash for his US career. When this song was composed, Walter and Lara were engaged, but apparently he cheated and she decided to break up. When she took this decision, that she knew would dramatically change both her personal and professional destiny, she wrote these incredible lyrics. Lara has said this is her preferred english song from all the songs she wrote in this language (there are many, and some are pure jewels). One reason is also because this song has then been covered by the greatests: - Barbra Streisand (she performed it in concerts from one of her tour but never recorded it), - Josh Groban (his cover made this song famous in US), - Morissette Amon, - Cakra Khan, - Regine Velasquez, - Almira (from 4th Impact), - Katrina Velarde, - Julie Anne San Jose, - Sarah Geronimo, - Petra Berger, - Harrison Craig, - Rimar, - Jackie Evancho (in AGT), - … Regarding Jackie Evancho, and at the request of Jackie's parents who found the original lyrics were not a good fit for a young girl, Lara rewrote Broken Vow in french as "Imaginer" with a complete different meaning.
Ciao, lara talento allo stato puro, qualsiasi sua canzone deciderai di ascoltare in inglese, francese, italiano, spagnolo, russo non rimmarai mai deluso. Tanti saluti
I'm always a sucker for a slow tempo melody, brilliant lyrics delivered by a beautiful voice. I heard about Lara a few years ago and secured a tracks from one of her CDs but unfortunately didn't give it a listen. I heard Broken Vow by Josh Groban and didn't know that Lara wrote the lyrics. So once I realized that she's a song writer as well I had to checkout her songs. I don't usually listen to foreign language song but that changed a few months ago when I heard Morissette Amon sing a Filipino song and now there's Lara. Great reaction Phil!
For me, she is more forgiving herself, allowing herself to move on, than forgiving her partner. See my other comment on the amazing story behind this song’s lyrics and the covers made by the greatests.
First time watching you. Great job. Loved your reaction. Lara is Master Class. Completely captivating. Check out her live versions of Adagio and You´re Not From Here.
Lara is the best in the World!!!!!
