No wetsuits, using pool toys as flotation, wearing tennis shoes, you put yourselves at grave risk.Glad you survived. I've been caving since the 70's. Equipment matters and of course always check the weather forecast before entering.

It’s actually really scary just how casual you were about the danger you were just in especially given there was a child with you. Think about this, if you just happened to stay in the furthest or deepest part for ten or twenty minutes longer, that passage would have been impassable or without knowing its length, certainly not without going through it underwater. The fact that everyone here was fine bringing a child with them….to something extreme as caving. Especially when no one properly researched the weather? (Or seemingly anyway. But I think it would be even worse if they researched the weather and decided to go anyway)
They are needlessly putting this child’s life in danger and to me that is extremely irresponsible parenting. I understand, adults are going to do what adults want, make the decisions and choices they want to. But bringing a kid into this. Not okay.

It’s sometimes hard to tell what is edited for production value for clicks/subs/revenue…….but I’m of the opinion he was legitimately at risk. While they mentioned they’d been in there earlier, it isn’t in the video, so it’s hard to compare the water conditions earlier. With only a few inches of airspace and nearly sumped, he decides to hastily exit, with only his nostrils above water until he finally submerges in one fell swoop and narrowly misses connecting his head to the ceiling. But the trend in this trip continues as it has in the other installments regarding safety, attire and decision-making……and that there doesn’t seem to be any real leadership during the trip…..the kind that establishes safety boundaries in proper attire and moving underground. The chain of decisions leading up to certain risky behaviors are easily dismissed because more disastrous consequences have been averted so far. It seems to be every man/girl for themselves. Not to mention being knowledgeable about the weather enough to know if there’s a chance of the kind of rain that will put your life at risk in a known wet cave where the decision is made to go to those wettest parts. As much as they are submerged, the could stand to be wetsuited (it looks like the girl might be). A simple injury could render an immobilized, wet group member hypothermic in short order. At 2:02, one of the group falls while simply navigating a very shallow stream passage and is visibly injured (though he is able to continue). The shoes he has on appear to be athletic shoes, not sturdy boots with lug soles. At best, they could be hybrids of some type. Then at 3:12, he dares Edward asking if he wants to race. Others appear to have similar shoes. Edward does have on adequate footwear. At 4:32, another one announces “a slide.” The route taken was a curved chute to the right, and maybe he’d done this before. But there is also an exposed cliff for another 20 feet or so to the water to the left. And Edward jumps for what looks to be 6 or 8 feet, and nearly gets injured (another has to ask if he’s alright at 8:43). This is the first video where they recorded actual intentional (8:16) and unintentional (11:51, where you can see a ceiling formation fall in front of his head at the bottom right) speleothem destruction. They also continue to trust unknown rope with their weight (10:08) frequently. Just get everyone on the same page for attire and moving underground safely and abide by that as a group. Even for recreational stuff like this, a conscientious trip leader could mean the difference between “sending it” and getting “sent” when nature ups the ante.

Thank God you guys all got out when you did. I can not even say how much of a legend your buddy is that ran his plan and then just waited for all of you. 10 or 20 minutes more, maybe a lot less than that even, and he would have been having to call a rescue in there, maybe even a body recovery. There was a lot of area in there that seemed to have good air flow and possible other entrances. Mos likely there were lots of places you could have safely gotten to and remained above the water and in fresh air, but who knows what might get sealed and cut off from fresh air as the water rose. I believe that as soon as I felt that the water was cold, I would have called it and gotten out of there though. Hypothermia could have easily taken you all out as well. That system looked amazing and it is definitely not for just any casual that does not know what they are doing or is alone, but it is wild just how close you all came to an extremely serious emergency or someone not getting to go home. Not exactly how you want to learn those kinds of lessons, but at least you all learned them and can teach others before they have to find out the hard way. Out of curiosity, are any of you divers or have any of the equipment and training for underwater exploration? They are very different disciplines, but I am just curious since I have seen a few vids of yours where the cave systems had wet sections.

@@liamc1102 first, the water was cold meaning hypothermia, and if they could only get to an air pocket Instead of a chamber then hypoxia. Many large caves have to be signed into meaning if you don't sign out by a certain amount of time then they automatically call in a rescue. Maybe they might have gotten lucky and survived the night, but what is a big maybe and that should NEVER be considered as an option. You always want to get out and they barely did. These guys appear to be very good at what they do and the best in the world at things like this and cave diving have died in the past, safety has to be the absolute highest priority and they were reminded of that on this occasion. I will guarantee that if you asked any of them they would tell you something very similar if not the same thing altogether in their own words. You just can not have that kind of blasé attitude about safety with these types of activities. These guys clearly know how to prepare and be safe, and you can tell from watching that they know perfectly well how close it was. I was simply acknowledging the facts of the situation as could be seen. Wild things can happen to anybody, and talking about talking about it honestly is a good way to help others become aware of things to watch out for and/or be prepared and trained to deal with.

The cave was Onesquethaw Cave nr. Clarksville, NY. We were past the barnyard and nearly got caught on the other side of the duck under just beyond, when the entrance flooded. We swam out and had to stay high in the turbines at the entrance. I’ve never been more frightened in a cave.

@saffycatamos people are crazy. Cavern reaper did bring his daughter who has also been in caves also to show her the entrance because she wanted to come with. So he showed her, then they left and waited for us to get out. That's why Cole aka cavern reaper wasn't in the rest of the video, and I don't think to many people say much about Hannah anymore, I think they have come to realize she's the real deal and can handle herself pretty well.

I’m surprised no one has called CPS. Just because you’ve spent a lot of time doing something, doesn’t mean you’re “experienced” in the sense of being knowledgeable - I live in NH where “experienced” hikers die all the time. People with thousands of trail miles die bc you can’t get away with the same mistakes that might not be a big deal elsewhere. Like running shoes or cotton clothing.
Skiing is a great example of the difference between, let’s call it “ability” and knowledgeable experience: I have a friend who is an expert skier, and I mean expert. S&S couloir, that kind of thing. Lots of time in the backcountry. But, he has zero technical avalanche knowledge. He might carry a beacon, probe, and shovel but god knows the last time he practiced, if he ever has. And he definitely doesn’t know how to perform stability tests. If “CTM15 down 32, SP” doesn’t mean anything to you, you don’t really have true “experience” in avalanche terrain, I don’t care if you beat Body Miller!

Lemme break it down for ya. That small fish came in there by mistake. For fish species to survive all the way deep inside a cave in complete isolation is impossible because they wont be having any source of sunlight or food. That small fish got inside with the incoming water from the surface. In deep caves you will generally find small salamanders as they can live without food for longer period of time
