- Assembly elections are taking place in Indian-administered Kashmir after a decade. A lot has happened in those years. Article 370 was abrogated, which allowed the state to have its own constitution, a separate flag and freedom to make its own laws. This was something that did not go down well with the people, but they were promised a boost in economy and jobs. As we dive into these elections, the BBC's Antariksh Jain asked the people, especially the youth, what their biggest issues are.

@dawoodmanzoormir no where in india there is more than 50% reservation it is against supreme court order, one can easily undo this extra reservation by appealing in high court. I understand your concern but that issue of no reservation is the same with me and others also in rest of India. We dont have reservations but we fight hard and move to other places in INdia and get private sector jobs.

I cannot understand the logic of how they have become unemployed because 370 is removed. Because of 370 removed more people can go to colleges and get education. Unemployment is there everywhere in India and it is not unique to Kashmir but I agree private sector jobs are less in Kashmir. Who is to be blamed for that. It is because Private sector would take some time to realize that Kashmir is peaceful and once things are fine jobs will emerge. The real culprit is Hurriyat and ISIS because of which terrorism was there and people and private sector have a fear for investing heavily in Kashmir. If Kashmir remains peaceful and accommodate other Indians as one among them then things will change. Goa , Hyderabad, Sikkim, Arunachal etc joined India after independence and they integrated well.

Because reservation for unreserved category decreased upto 30 % and more over not a single post in last 5 years was filled by UT GOVT. Here 1 lakh govt jobs are vacant . kashmir university has no professors ......... For commerce stream .....

After abrogation the reservation has been increased to nearly 70% which is simply unconstitutional. Everywhere else there is a cap on reservation at 50% but not here. Its also known that here more population belongs to general category still have they done it for appeasement politics, vote bank.

After abrogation, the the 50% reservation for Open Merit which constitutes 70% of the total population was snatched 20% and given to SC/ST. Currently 70% of the open merit students are competing for only 30% of the reservation...Get educated on the matter first.

I come from state of Kerala the most educated state with very good English and computer skills here the unemployment is very VERY VERY very high even with a stable government,peaceful atmosphere,liberal multicultural society and pleasant climate but no job if you are lucky you will get a government job..

What I mean by India concentrating on India is don't worry about Kashmir, don't constantly worry about and whine about Muslims, save the massive amounts of money that India spends on the 1 million troops being stationed in Kashmir and use that money for Indians to build decent infrastructure, to create jobs for the sky-high numbers of unemployed youth, to combat the worst pollution levels in the world, and to try and do something about the roughly 200k Indians who are killed on India's roads every year!

This is so devestating...
For four years there was halt in recruitment. Posts were advertised and withdrawn many times. I paid thrice for one post even my fees was not refunded after the posts were withdrawn. Similarly contractual lecturers at +2 level and in colleges have been rendered jobless even after serving the department for 10 to 20 years. Now thousands of Ph D, NET/SET holders are running from pillar to post to get a job so that they can earn their livelihood. Most of them have crossed their upper Age limit. Many of them got court orders as Apex Court of India settled the issue of replacing temporary employees with similar arrangement but in J and K that too has no worth. Equal work and equal pay (Supreme Court Ruling) is thrown in dust bin. Those who worked in these schools and colleges are sitting idle at home. BJP claims that they recruited 30000 youth then why unemployment is on rise and why those thousands of contractual teachers are sitting at home. BJP destroyed our economy, wasted our human resource and took our right to have our own State. They give figures as PM Modi gave a+b ka whole square.

maximum posts are vacant in schools ,colleges hospitals and other govt institutions as well but the govt is not paying any attention .phd scholars work as a labour here

The GOI with the help of LG administration is replacing Kashmiri Civil Society by the method of giving reservation to the Majority of Jammu (except mainland Jammu). The entire population of Pir Panchaal Valley is under reservation.

After the abrogation of article 370 , the people from all over india can reside in kashmir, and also can get permanent residency in kashmir, that's why they the Kashmiris opposing it , because the outsiders will also enter the job market in Jammu and Kashmir.. whether they are private or Government...

Before article 370 open merit reservation was 50 percent now it is 30.suddenly after abrogation of article unemployment rate was 47.3 percent, recently for 5k posts of constable more than 2 lakh kashmiri people applied.From security guard to igp everybody is non local working in Kashmir
the problem is with the education system which is based on british methods, when few people were educated it was able to provide job and gained people's appreciation. when many got educated with this western system it fails.

Where a phd is unemployed, what worse can be a state? After article abrogation, kashmir has lost hope for its development, governance and employment. Internally people are angry, dissatisfied with delhi govt, but what is more threatening for new Delhi is Jammu province is also disappointed by Central government.

Outsiders are getting jobs in Kashmir Both Private and government sectors . Kashmir cannot own their own projects outsiders are taking the resources like Sand , Forests timber and Other resources from here with the help of government agencies. Those who work for 10 years in government as a contractual basis are not getting contractual Renewed .
Whatever Khasmiris' issues are, will get solved day by day.. But

Preservation of article 370 is preserving Islamic separatism the indigenous Kashmiri Hindus were violently thrown out of their ancestral lands and properties and forced into exile by Muslims in Kashmir and that is the reason for darkness in Jammu and Kashmir. If Muslims from Kashmir can work live and buy property across India why can't people outside of Jammu and Kashmir work and live in Kashmir. Muslims in Jammu and Kashmir want Hindu free Jammu and Kashmir even though India was illegally partitioned to create a country called Pakistan Bangladesh for Muslims in India that demanded separatism from Hindu nation

In India there are several states like Odisha, Bihar, MP, North east where there no jobs for many highly educated people. J&K have such good tourism. While other states doesnt have that. Its India issue not only J&K.

Mainstream indian media will not dare to do such kind of interviews or this kind of on ground reports on unemployment and many other problems faced by the Kashmiris, kudos to the bbc and also few independent indian reporters and foreign media for covering these issues, because the whole world is not blind....
As usual the GOI neglecting Kashmir and failing to not only create jobs but provide decent infrastructure! Kashmir would be better off being administered by China, they'd do a much better job, and then India could save lots of money and use it for the people!
Ask the Uighurs how much they like being administered by the Chinese.
