Great work, Luke! Seems like a quaint little town. I love those cities that aren't hustle and bustle but still have all the infrastructure needed for a comfortable life. Definitely hope to go back to the Caucasus one day soon. :-)
Gyumri is full of history and I would have enjoyed another day there to do some day trips! You definitely need to come back, visiting Georgia🇬🇪 it makes sense to check out Armenia 🇦🇲 too!

I don't remember what day it was, maybe it was just renovated or late? Gyumri is a beautiful city, second biggest city in Armenia but it's such a contrast between it and Yerevan, it feels less busy but still like a big city!
One of the best way to get to know a country is to explore its markets! Just wait until my video from Yerevan, where I explore their market, you will be amazed!

It was named Alexandropol after the visit of the Russian Emperor Nickolay the 1st after the Saint Alexandr ( Nickolay 1st wife was Alexandra Feodorovna ) .
Correction: The original name was Kumayri during the ancient Armenian Kingdom (late 5th century BC). During Russian rule,Tsar Nicholas I changed the name to Alexandropol in 1837. Under Soviet rule, the name was changed again to Leninakan in 1924. After the breakup with the USSR, the city was finally named Gyumri in 1992.
I would love to! I was researching the tours I could take to visit. As a US citizen I cannot enter Solo:/ I need to be accompanied by a tour operarator
