Don't ever ask if 2020 can get worse since she has proven time and time again that the answer to that question is a big fat yes!

I drove through the area from Austin to Rock Island through Des Moines a few days after the storm and I was in shock of how much damage there was throughout the state along I-80. I've made a few more trips through there & pray for everyone who was affected from this storm the best. It wasn't till I saw videos afterwards and saw how fierce that storm was on August 10th. I support all farmers for the incredible work they do. God Bless

I live in Cedar Rapids and have only gotten internet back 2 days ago, we were without power over 11 days, and we were "luckier" than many, I know of some without electricity for 3 weeks. Our neighborhood here looks more like a logging camp than a neighborhood. Everybody has been helping each other, that has been hugely encouraging. The sad thing is how little attention this storm got in the national media. I talked to one friend elsewhere who was in hospital recovering from surgery, for 4 days immediately after the storm she had nothing to do but lay there and watch CNN and Fox news and she saw one item about the storm and that had to do with questioning why there was no coverage. I have talked to numerous others that live elsewhere that never even heard about it. It is almost impossible to really grasp the intensity size and scope of the devestation from this storm to farms, homes businesses, crops trees - everything.. The wind was blowing the rain so hard there were "white out" conditions and in some places it literally stripped the paint from siding and structures as if it had been sand blasted, so much so that the insurance company did not even questioned the need to have this replaced.

Sorry to see all that. The farmer is the heart of our nation and the world for that matter, please help out the farmer as much as you can. I am a small city boy that has never worked on a farm but I do have aunts and uncles that have a dairy farm and a angus cattle farm. support our farmer with what ever you can, they will be very grateful for what ever you do for them, and so will the world.

My prayers for all persons affected by this storm. I was raised in Nebraska Sandhills Ranch country and raised my family in Southeast Nebraska before moving to Arizona for work. I can't believe the destruction from this storm. The flooding last year ! Hopefully some people can use the downed trees to heat their homes and shops using the downed trees in wood burning stoves. Thank God for protecting all of you physically.

Mother Nature always throwing us curve balls!! Lots of damage!!! But you still have a lot standing, that's better than some!!
All you can do is document everything and start cleaning up the mess... Hopefully get insurance to cover most of it and replace what you need!!!
Keep your head straight!! It's not the end of the world, just a big speed bump in life.
Before my time, but the Columbus Day storm of 1963 did the same thing in Oregon and Washington.
Dairies in the Willamette valley we're leveled, some cows we're found miles away.. it was a left over hurricane.
Had a few good roof removers since too..
Feel for you all!!! Thoughts and prayers are with you all!!!

I'm really sorry you are having to go through this. We had this happen in 2012 in Virginia which was horrible! These derecho are so widespread that they are not able
to pull in help from other locals as EVERYONE is affected in a large area. It was nearly 3 weeks before we got power back. I know it looks overwhelming to you right now but
it will get better, just take it one day at a time. You will recover from this. Stay strong.

I had not seen any videos/pictures until I happened upon this video. Thank you for sharing. Tornadoes in TN every year do this much damage and more so you are blessed that this is a once in a lifetime occurrence. So happy your house and most of your buildings have very little damage. I hope most of your crops survived and you are so blessed that your equipment was untouched. This will be a year to remember in so many ways.
I would love to spend a few days back in the farm land. Most beautiful country in the world, except when digging out after blizzards.
I hope your power is restored soon.

Try to slow the camera down don`t move back and forth so fast so much. you did a good job showing the damage to your farm. I live in Oregon close to the Columbia River gorge in the Portland area. We had 12 inches of snow and freezing rain 2 inches in February. it cost me 7 trees down and about 1500 to 2000 branches, a greenhouse, shed, gutters on my house, my truck, and my tracker. yesterday I had 17 members of our church came over and helped with the clean-up. I still have another 2 weeks to go! so, I know how you feel!

I know its tough, but, as a retired insurance agent, if you were insured correctly, your coverage will pay for everything, and I mean everything, and you will be reimbursed and have updates and be better off then before. Also, your crop insurance will cover you also, plus you will probably get more disaster payments from dump. That's something people never talk about. Also, I don't see any livestock so you will get paid for a blue silo to stick in your pocket, right. What's a new blue harvest silo cost? Folks will all say oh your so mean, but it's all true! But no-one ever tells you that. It's like when someone's house burns down everyone says oh let's give them a bunch of money! O.M.G. Insured properly and you get a brand new home and all new furniture and garage stuff , and you will probably have trouble spending all the money. WOW.

I watch another channel in Iowa (cole the cornstar) his families farm has been hit hard too. Crop damage a large roof on there machinery shed a new ish bin blown in. Damage to their house. The local Co-op has something like 7 of 8 bins collapsed. How would i start with your problems. the power will come on at some time so make the place electrically safe. Water. If you can weatherproof the house. Where is the corn going to go in the next few weeks is it? When its harvested. So make a shed a priority. It going to be a lot of hard decisions. Its like eating an elephant . How do you do it? One bite at a time. Its all you can do. Its heartbreaking and the farm was clean and well maintained too from looking at this video. I feel for everyone there. You have achieved a lot in a couple of days. Lists of damage for the insurance company. It will act a pointers for when the assessor comes around. That will be enough to start with.

I'd heard that out-in-the-open livestock were massacred by ultra-ballistic hail, that also pierced people's skin like bullets; could that be true? I sure hope that the coming winter is not as unkind, as this summer was, as Iowa does occasionally get Siberian air masses.

Sorry to see your property loss. Being out there in the open would be terrible.
