I LOVE this Jeep. I have had it for two years (I did a 1 year lease on both). I hated the CVT but I have the 6 speed now and its great. Great gas mileage, responsive steering, sits up like a SUV but quiet ride. It was a great pickup (to merge on highway ramps or to overtake on a two lane country road)...its really great.
I just looked at an Orange 2008 Jeep Patriot Sport, and after seeing this video, I know I'm impressed with Jeep, once again. I'll be very happy and after getting it, and I know my girlfriend will be as well, seeing how awesome the 4WD does in snow. Thank you for posting!
We finally had our first real snowfall here in WV. I took my Patriot out for some fun and was amazed how well it handled. The traction control and ABS, as well as the ESP was flawless, much better than my Explorer.
Having a locked diff. really makes a difference. Got one installed on my 08 pathfinder (only w/ limited slip), plus with bfgoodrich all terrain tires installed just recently.
Nice driving. You know what you're doing. Two words, though: snow tires! I have a set on my 2003 liberty and they make a world of difference here in the mtns. climbing steep hills
love how the nex are chiming in every time. "YOU TAKE UR OL GROSHRY GITTER N GET OFF'N MY TRAILS!" Sorry. Not plannin to get anything over a 4cyl any time soon. I want a Wrangler so bad, but between gas prices, the economy and most of all the environmental situation... i just can't justify it. And this Patriot seems to fit the bill perfectly. mid twenty mpg's, plenty of room for the family AND 4WD for a little fun and safety. And for the price, can't beat it.
I just bought a 2010 north one of these. Can't wait for it to snow here in bc. I am coming from a 4x4 ranger so was a bit nervouse about the handling in that kind of weather... Your video inspires confidence in my new baby!
The ratings on the gas mileage is amazing but the power is weak because it's a 4 cylinder. Wish it was a v6 that gets good gas cause all 4x4's get bad gas mileage :-( But since it has low range it doesn't matter so that's a good thing
i was researching on this car...it handles better off road than on road...but if u always want a jeep with good gas milage and low price and a non rice egg looking car ...i think its worth it.
Just like the Liberty, it has no ground clearance for serious off road use. I first put skids under my KK. Then, ended up putting a 3inch lift and 255/65 16's. I now have 10inches under the lowerest spot in the front and just under 10 under the rear axle. So, after rockrails, hitch, skids, I have a rig that comes in at 4600lbs and handles great. Last 8 inch snow we had, I wasn't dragging bottom like I use to.
The Patriot was designed for 'serious' (what ever your definition is) off road use. It was designed to be the most capable in the their class. I wish people would understand that sh*t.
We have an 09 KK. Love it. Take it to Colorado and Utah and does great. The serious lake effect snowfalls we get in Indiana, it handles like a champ. Is it a Wrangler--no. I don't want it to be.
The Patriot is basically front-wheel drive. But power is transmitted via a vane package to the rear wheels if the front wheels slip. More like auxiliary operation. Toyota rave4 has a similar drive system. Partly to reduce fuel costs.
Handles just fine on the road for an SUV...better than the older Calibers and HHR CUVs, IMHO. THe suspension is tuned differently than the Caliber and Compass, and should have been more fine-tuned in 2009 and 2010 models, over the '07 & '08 (which is comfortable enough for me to prefer it over a bouncy Nitro).
Drove mine 09 from Ontario to Newfoundland from Newfoundland to Nova Scotia from Nova Scotia to Ontario and going to drive it back to Nova Scotia this June and it had nothing wrong with it
If you intend to go on 4x4 trails, the Freedom Drive II (FDII) "Trail-Rated" package would be the way to go, gives you skid plates, all the 4WD goodies, and an extra inch of ground clearance. If you decide to get one in any case, don't opt for the smaller 2.0L engine, not worth the performance loss for the negligible savings in gas or cost.
+S Justice @217000 the transmission failed and no one rebuilds CVT transmissions. You can only get an OEM one for about 4-5 thousand if I remember correctly plus where I live the average gararge charges $200/hr so needless to say I gave it away for parts. It lasted 6 1/2 years so no complaints.
Ice is far more dangerous than snow, but snow can make it harder for you to maneuver if you don't have the proper ground clearance. I'd take snow over ice any day.
Hi thanks for this Video, i'm thinking of buying a patriot and this has answered most the questions I had about it's offroad ability :) Ps quick question, I know how to put the car in 4wd lock as i've seen the chrome handle but how do you put the car in in low range?
hahaha nicee i need to find virgin snow like this here in canada this winter. im gonna buy winter tires this time either the michelin xi2 or the bridgestone blizzak ws60 not sure which 1 but they both seem good ~2001 honda crv ^^
@@jamieledrew460 Electronic Stability Program. When on, it can control how your brakes react to tire spin. Turning off traction control, ESP or ESC can put you in control of tire spin or traction vs the computer. Sometimes the computer makes the wrong decision 😂
this may sound stupid, but does it have a display to show which driving mode it is on, as in either 4wd low, 4wd lock, or 2wd, possibly on the dashboard?
Just a couple of stupid questions... I have a 2008 Patriot.........can I pull up the 4wd switch while moving or do I pull it while Im in Park? Also what is ESP?
Only in 4 low, in other words (low range) do the front tires spin at the same time because it's a lower gearing for tough situations & When your in 4 high its different, 4 high is normal 4x4 but 4 low is better for going up stuff or through thick mud. That's why low range kicks serious but 💪 There's lot to know about 4 wheel driving. It's very interesting.
Hey, great video and I love my Jeep Patriot. I have a question - there is a button that looks like "slipper when wet" symbol next to my seat heater (middle lower console) - if you depress it then whatever it is goes OFF. Does anyone know what that button is and when should I depress it to turn it "OFF"? Anyone knows? Thanks
What Zpinua said a while back, lol...do people not realize suspension tuned differently does alter ride handling, or are too many people too lazy to type some words or read page a text to get an idea of what they are trying to talk about?
That's not necessarily true and you can usually tell just by looking at the condition it's in. Jeeps are made for this and hold up extremely well. If something breaks, you fix it, that's pretty much it, and if you know what you're doing it's not likely anything will break from off-roading. I have an 06 Grand Cherokee that looks and runs better than most passenger cars, because I take care of it, and I do off-road it. Jeeps are tested on the Rubicon Trail. What this guy was doing is not even remotely close to abuse.
@Zpinua hey my dad might buy this jeep so i just want to know if its a good 4x4 or not because we live in canada and its very snowy in the winter, thanks

What's wrong with the CVT?
Honestly, the best snow-off-road vid!!
I live in North Dakota, and am looking into different SUV's for winter, which gets really dicey here. This model just made the top list. Thank you.
A set of true snow tires all the way around, and that little street-jeep would easily get up the hill at the end. :)

That is an extremely steep hill for snow. There isn't much that would make it up that.
What winter tires are you using ? Have you every think using the Good year Wrangler Territory ?
Is that good or bad test drive?
I have found that in snow, ESP off seems to work much better. I have a 02 Liberty and it blows my 09 away in deep snow.
