I can honestly close my eyes and a part of my life flashes with memories. Watching someone drink themselves because of a horrendous past and nothing I could do or say helped... until I couldn't do it anymore and his anger too much for me to bare. Walking away is hard when you love someone like that.😢
It's such a struggle. My Husband is the most loyal, loving, sweet, thoughtful guy ever- he does all of the cooking, cleaning, takes care of the pets, plus BOTH of our Mothers & he'sliterallythe hardest working person I've ever known. BUT, when he drinks, he's a totally different person & has an awful, scary temper. It's heartbreaking!! He slips off the wagon a couple times every 10 yrs or so & it lasts for a while. I hate it, and HE hates it just as much. AA is what always helps him, it's just a matter of getting him to admit it's time to go again. We're in our mid 40's now & I hope this cycle has run it's course. I know that if something were to happen to me, that he'd just lose all control & drink himself to death. Addiction is a nasty, awful, heartbreaking thing. Hang in there, and much love to you❤
My husband is 13 yrs sober and thats what saved our marriage and family. Hoping your husband, and you, make that your priority ..nice guy or not, it gets worse. Good luck..

I know, it's said all the time, and it hardly makes anyone feel better. After all, why would I wish this feeling onto someone else? It's complicated, but just as life. That's so damn hard and not your responsibility at all but he may not know on that epiphany level that he's numbing. To him it may just feel like a reprieve, a release, a deep breath and maybe that's all he knows. And will hoard the only thing he feels makes it not hurt. Being vulnerable isn't a thing we freely accept and eagerly care about. His way may not be yours and vice versa but none of us have the same perspective and arsonel to combat life. Love and grace from those he loves (and say they love him too) can and will help him see the things he doesn't know he can conquer...the things in his heart and mind he's hidden and drowning from. He may never have learned or understood, let alone been shown, healthy life skills to cope and grow and find relief. And even if/after being told the things you see that he don't - he probably doesn't haven't the frame of reference to believe it. Scared to own the stepping stone he's on (labels and stigmas and judgement are scary and sad and fucked up, in my opinion). Almost like, better the devil you know, than the devil you don't. Even though from your perspective he's dancing with it and happily so.

I do other wrongs. But one I ended on sept 2 22 was drinking. I have not drank sense. I ended my fascination with Heroin 6 months after that and to date have dine neither in over a year. But this new thing seem so simple at first without the hard physical withdraw. Well it has came on slowly and found a home. Ill be kicking this Crystal babe out of my home soon enough.
