I too was born and raised in Oxnard. It's been over 30 years since I'd last been there. Amazing how much has changed. Great video 😊 thanks for the trip down memory lane.
I was there when Robert Kennedy came by, as a small kid I managed to get to the front of the holding line and he touched my head and shook my hand. Wish they never had knocked down all the surrounding buildings of the plaza- they could have retrofitted the buildings instead. Great memories and Thank You for sharing.
I like how you touched the true Oxnard history and showed its origins and even used music of that time. Most Oxnard "documentaries" people make it seem like the history is just "barrios" and "chicanos" to make it reflect their worldview, when in reality many types of people influenced the city of Oxnard throughout the years.
I've lived in the 'nard for over 50 yrs. and I finally moved away. I love Oxnard but sadly, in my opinion, it has become overpopulated. I loved it when there were less people living there. I wouldn't want to live there in the present time. However, I do come back to visit the beaches. I never noticed how overpopulated it is until I moved away. I mean not to offend anyone, but nowadays it's easy to offend people just by stating some brutal truths. I moved there in '69 and moved away in 2021. I also miss the great weather that we have over there. I lived in the South side of Oxnard on Hamilton Ave. I knew it was becoming overpopulated when I noticed there was heavy traffic bleeding onto Terrace Ave. for the people who wanted to take a short cut to Bard Rd. It's sad to me because Oxnard is located in such a beautiful geographic area and now it's getting gentrified majorly. And the traffic is getting worse. Sorry if I sound like a buzzkill, but I'm just stating facts. Oxnard will ALWAYS be a part of me...for better or worse.
Hi, I appreciate your testimony especially from someone who lived there and moved away. I most definitely agree that it has become quite populated recently. I myself born and raised have moved to the Valley for school and coming back I am always amazed by how many building have popped up recently. My parents live on Rose Ave and I went to PHS and they are building a brand new High School on Rose which is down the street and an already a busy street. I can only imagine how much change you must have witnessed over a 50 year period of time. No need to apologize I appreciate the honesty!
My family moved to Oxnard in 1965 to Poplar St just east of Saviors. Dad was the pastor of the Nazarene Church at Rice Rd and Saviors. I lived there for 20 years and still take occasional road trips up from Glendale. Such great memories!
Wow I just love the music to this, I have very beautiful memories of places I also when with my mama, I will never leave you oxnard too many beautiful memories.
I remember when they built Heritage Square. They had taken a bunch of buildings from all over town and cut them in half so they could be loaded onto flat bed trailers. Then they reassembled them in southern downtown.
You packed in a ton of information for a six minute documentary--some people should realize one can't cover every thing about Oxnard in that short amount of time, so great job with what you've done here. I was born and raised across the river in East Ventura and my only memories of Oxnard in the 1970s was going to the Esplanade Mall and occasionally the Carriage Square Theater and Sky View Drive-in. This video gave me a lot more historical perspective than I had previously, so thanks.
I just want to say thank you for this video, very well done by a local. I just moved to the area from Ontario Ca. And want to know a little of the history of Oxnard Ca.
Where's the rest of the video? I was just getting interested in watching it. Hopefully, there will be a part 2 in the making someday. Thank you for sharing. 🙂👍
I wanted to but I did my documentary on a 25 minute walk I took downtown, however I do plan on making a more “local” perspective. I feel that there is so much history and different topics that one small documentary won’t do it justice.
Yo me crié ayi en la 6 en los cuartos d doña carmen dueña del nopalito restaurante ,,,a espaldas d el budy burger , había puras cantinas ayi y aún estaba el hotel verde al pie d el taco d mexico la panadería en la esquina
@amg0788 - are you not watching videos in it's entirety?? she has footage of the Carnegie (NOT carnage) museum at 4:03 and gazebo at 4:09. Quit being short brained and stop watching shorts
Is your message that oxnard is dying?! I get the Nostalgia of ur hometown and how places are sometimes more special if it is from your childhood. But would you not recommend someone to live here? Im moving fron washington dc to pr mugu and was planing on living in oxnard.. is that not a good idea?
I’ve been living in Oxnard for quite some time, I think it’s a good place here. Especially if you have family here that can show you around. Plus your not far from Ventura where you can go to some places for fun.
@@rachelstocum5421 welcome to Life ! I just did a city to city comparison -- - Oxnard ca - Berkley ca and Berkley has more violent crimes , Oxnard rates below US on violent crime and property crime .
DAVE mugu is a 40 minute drive to Malibu and north of Mugu is santa barbara a 25 minute drive , dude youl like it .Oxnard has its share of crime but just below the US average . plus .....BEST DAMN MEXICAN FOOD IN ALL VENTURA COUNTY
I dont recommend it if you want to raise a family. Too much gang influence in pretty much every public school. It has become very crowded and overpopulated and they are still building more each year. I was born and raised in Oxnard from birth to the age of 37 so I speak from experience. We moved to Texas and don't regret it one bit because I did not want my daughter to grow up in such an environment. If you want to live in a safer and nicer area move to Camarillo which is the town next to Oxnard.
I was born and raised in Oxnard. I would have to say that the peak of Oxnard must of been in 1989-1992. All downhill after that, this place is a dump now and whoever runs this city does not care. It was better back then. Does anybody remember Sub Station 2? That place was great
Buddy burger was ,,,WIMPY'S and the building was an older version as the one you have , across the street from Teatro was El Taco Loco which was probably the first real taqueria in Oxnard , well la Perla ( on 7th ) made burritos as well . But good job im glad you love oxnard as much as us old timers lol
It's a shame how dumpy and over grown Oxnard has become. It used to be a quaint, small city when I was growing up. Now it's a jumbled mess of people and traffic
the city has grown a lot, I hope it doesn't get any more crowded either traffic wise that is something I enjoy coming in from the valley is that there is not as much traffic in Oxnard.
3:10 - Vogue used to be a theater, I remember watching the movie ET there when I was a kid
that would have been awesome!
I too was born and raised in Oxnard. It's been over 30 years since I'd last been there. Amazing how much has changed. Great video 😊 thanks for the trip down memory lane.
So glad you enjoyed it !the pleasure is mine!
Been living here for near 20 years. I love it. Great vid btw
im 17 and i still live here. love it!!
I've not been to Oxnard in over 40 years, but I remember the theatre at @1:23 , very well. Great video.

Thats right it was Robert Kennedy! that is cool that you got to meet him! such a historical figure.
Great video! You did much research and it shows. I enjoyed this video. Keep it up!!!!!

Thank you so much ! I wanted to do something different in regards to how people view the City I am glad that you enjoyed my take on it 🖤
So true. I appreciated the different take on Oxnard. It’s not just the barrios and the Chiques. There’s a lot more history that needs to be covered.
I've lived in the 'nard for over 50 yrs. and I finally moved away. I love Oxnard but sadly, in my opinion, it has become overpopulated.

I used to live in Santa Barbara and Goleta and later in Long Beach. Often I would drive through Oxnard. It is a wonderful city. I remember it a lot.
Nice short doc! For some reason, I found it soothing, not sure why.
Beautiful! Btw, that was Robert Kenndy on his presidential campaign, President John F. Kenndy's younger brother. 😃❤🙏✌
thank you I will have to fix that soon on here :)

Love to hear that!
My beautiful home. Great content

that is cool i did hear that they were relocated didn't know they were cut in half!
Excellent video! Oxnard reminds me a lot of my hometown. I visited recently, my experience was a nice blend of everything.
Glad you had a great experience!
This was well put together! Lots of town info/history plus speaking about your own up bringing, hella dope! 🙏🏽 i grew up out here too! #oxnard805

Aye!
I was a projectionist at Theatro Boulavardo !
When did it close down that I might ask?
wow that is cool! wish that place showed movies again
Not gonna talk about the oldest varrio in Ventura county colonia and colonia park ?
I wanted to but I did my documentary on a 25 minute walk I took downtown, however I do plan on making a more “local” perspective. I feel that there is so much history and different topics that one small documentary won’t do it justice.

You should do one of the la colonia area how it was then ❤️
That would most definitely be interesting since La Colonia has changed so much recently.
Being 20 I’ve live here all my life and after almost 18 years living in the same house we finally getting kicked out
That must be very hard I have grown up in Oxnard and it will always be home 🖤 I hope you all are able to stay local.
Oh no! How come? Anything that can be done to keep you there?
Cool video 📸
thank you so much I appreciate you watching it!
My pleasure🌹🌹🌹🌹
I love this city
Ox Love!
Girl, you didn’t mention about the Carnage Museum or the Gazebo in Plaza Park! Those are two huge landmarks with rich history.
That is true I did not :( there is so much I did leave out but hopefully I can touch on it on Part 2.

We left ixnard a year ago. Its a very scary area with drugs and violence though the roof! Stay away! Seriously.

Nice video but I did want to offer a small correction. It was Robert F Kennedy who came to Oxnard. It wasn’t John F Kennedy. : )
Thank you so much for the correction! I don’t want to share any miss information:) I’ll make sure to make the corrections! I appreciate it :)
