Very similar to a JA Prestwich twin that I had come in for some machining. Guessing they were not shy about copying each other back in the day!

going by what everyone thinks about them you would think they would have been better than a 10-15 year older harley design. harley made changes for a reason. the older stuff sucked.

Tatro is typical of all experience machinist / mechanic, everything that he did not build is crap. Every thing he did build is also crap after the customer abused it for one day. I understand because I feel that way myself. We feel that way because the typical Engineers goal is not to make it the best he can it's to make it the cheapest way he can and still accomplish that needed end result. After years of witnessing the changes to existing products and see that it was just made cheaper and not better is the root cause of these feelings.

It'd be pretty hard to take on a job where the customer does not want you to replace obviously pitted and worn parts.

that is true but that is not how this one went down. things happen and you deal with it.

It looks more like the innards of a well-used farm tractor lower end, which was not far from it back in 1930's tech. Watch out for old chicken feet in the bags and old coop-wire repairs.

Thank you for the Indian video. I just found one, so have at least some notion of how to check for needed repair. The owner wants it running, and his health has faded. He can no longer manage repairs. I plan to give him at least a last few rides.M.

😂😂😂.....It's obvious from my profile pic that I love my 2002 Gilroy crap made PP100 Indian Chief.
Because of the failed effort to produce a quality proprietary engine between 2002-2004, I have been forced to seek a quality rebuild....I found one, and I'm totally confident that it'll stand the test of time.
When I bought it 10 years ago, even with the crappy .569 lift evo original cam, it would walk all over any factory MOCO bike from the same era....lol.
I bought the bike because I hate brand loyalty, and even with a totally re-manufactured PP100, I only have $16,500 in the bike....think I'll keep it indefinitely just to piss off the MOCO sheeple....😂👍

@@TatroMachine , but they're both the same evo based design. The '02-'04 suffered from inferior casting materials and bad machining......those damned Californians....lol.

    • @TatroMachine
      @TatroMachine  4 роки тому +1

you left out all the other bad parts. bad ports, machining, electrics and oiling system.
the twincam is an evo based design too but that does not make it the same or better.
indian had a very nice 88ci s&s harley motor and than they decided to make it their own and screwed everything up. they did the same thing in 1949 and had the same results. bankruptcy.

      @@TatroMachine , I know, I almost went for a '99 S&S Chief before I saw the '02 "bottlecap" engine.
      I didn't research it before I bought....my bad.
I just wanted something different....everyone has a Harley!
It's not that I don't like Harley, I don't like the mentality that if it ain't a Harley, it ain't a real bike.
I get alot of compliments on the look....but not from the typical Harley mob.
I still like watching you work though.
BTW, I just watched "Easy Rider".....damned waste of a couple of Panheads!

So what would your suggestion be for a replacement engine?
      S&S, Ultima, Revtech, HD?
I saw your build with Ultima where the cases aren't square and flat.
      S&S has bad engines too.
Maybe I'd get one built on Thursday instead of Monday, and I'd be out $5k?

Maybe an old Indian is juck to you but many love them as I. You can't expect you're channel to grow when you but down other people and the bike they love. I'll never watch you again. "How not to restore" is the truth . What a shambles. "The flywheel with the hole in is probably the r/hand one" You reckon ? Let's throw the machined faces on the steel bench- top again. Videos should be made by professionals.
