End grain glued to long grain at the corners with one pin holding it together with two heavy sheets of acrylic? Although the acrylic is a good idea but I was hoping to see more traditional Japanese wood shoji frame construction which is much stronger but takes more skill.
what I really want to do is to create the appearance of fusuma walls in my home. I'd like to use screens like this as a facade. Is there a better way to do this?
what a hell is this?! when I saw the saw looks like Guillotine I thought absolute you guys will not be able to make it. and also, with Nails?! I'm a Japanese but I want to palm my face
OP is long gone - but the wood is Tasmanian oak. It's Australian (obviously) - but you could use any type of wood so long as it isn't too soft. As for the measurements - I would measure to your space and just design the beading width to taste. For the ricepaper, you could use 2 thin sheets of polycarb/acrylic and then put in any diffusion material you like.
Hi guys - do you have a product name or number to get this 3M film in Australia? You sound Australian but are you in the US or Australia? I am struggling to find a joiner (plenty of carpenters) who would know how to make a door like this - any tips?
That acrylic panel is very expensive - I don't see the need for it. Also no detail was provided on the sliding tracks. I would think the top groove should be deeper to allow for inserting the screen.
@@thesage1096 i was obsessed at the japan back then (when i was 12),and my brain worked wierd, but now it seems cool but i would not build it because my house building skills are low asf, btw nice concept with japanese panels as closet doors
The small guy is lying. It doesn't look great. It looks ridiculous. The lines are not even lined up properly. Also you never ever use nails, use dowels. Finally just buy some darker wood and don't stain it with some toxic chemicals it will look much more premium
i am looking at of my london windows on a damp grey pre-cherry blossom world.. thanks ever so for putting this up, its really very clear xx
*Nails and mechanical tools used for Shoji*
Dishonourable Display

Skill ~ there was no skill involved in this vid other than the camera man.
@@graymesso3845 which is also the point of the video
I think it would be easier to use Japanese joinery. instead of nail and glue joints using 2 people, use a dowel or through tenon on the corners.
Amazing
woo! it is so simple! I should try!

This is how not to do this.
probably, but were they doing this for authenticity?
They did say alternative way. Plus this way it'll last longer. But ya traditional methods are of course ideal
I guess it's a good method to just get the look 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks guys fir sharing this video so helpful i can make this kind of door
That saw setup is amazing and you can technically make the whole panel with it alone... What is that?
It’s a mitre saw
I think I might just try painting a 1/4 inch 4x8 plywood and frame both sides with 1x4 pine with glue and screws for much sturdier and cheaper effect.
It looks ok but I don't think you can call that "Shoji screenl"
Wow, this was amazing. Thank you!
This has been very helpful :) Thanks so much for the video!
yes, you now have one example of how not to do this.
Thanks, straight to the point no ABS.
Japanese? Assembled with nails?
Magnus Högfeldt Right?
And window film over acrylic.
They shouldn't use glue either. That's not how Japanese do it.
y is there glass beneath the paper
mate, was that wood glue ur using to bond the acrylic to the wood ?
what a hell is this?! when I saw the saw looks like Guillotine I thought absolute you guys will not be able to make it. and also, with Nails?! I'm a Japanese but I want to palm my face
I want some sushi
Can you list for me the type of wood, including sizing, and the size of the cuts as well? Thanks so much!
i hope you never get an answer
Legenden says she still waiting.

I'm no carpenter at all but it bugged me to see the pressure they put with the mitre saw giving it a splintery rough edge
Did you cry
Wow ~ amazing, and was nearly all level and in a geometric style ?
love these videos.

What is the company name that makes the rice paper you used? It sounds like "Free End" but I couldn't be sure... Thanks!
3M

You are correct on the depth of the sliding tracks.
"The manufacturer recommends that the paper be applied by a trained personnel???" ...LOL
the bit at the end XD
This guy looks like Teller's older brother.
great!!! but supposed to create this without nails...
What is the saw called?
@SharrelWright 😆
thank you guys
Man. they can't even make equal squares. Check end background.
Sencillo
Not really surprised the manufacturers would recommend, that you pay them to do it...
Primitive just like that TV & refrigerator behind you
Pen and Teller?
Tim the toolman and Al
anybody tryed to do it?
Is this a joke video?
reminds me of Penn and Teller
Hi Michael, Thank you for watching our channel. We'll be uploading more soon.
Im try to build garden mini japan dojo for meditation and eating my homemade sushi
i want to make my closet doors as two large sliding doors. i initially though of making regular panel doors, but i thought maybe try something nice
@@thesage1096 i was obsessed at the japan back then (when i was 12),and my brain worked wierd, but now it seems cool but i would not build it because my house building skills are low asf, btw nice concept with japanese panels as closet doors
Real Japanese would be having a heart attack watching this shoddy approach. OMG!
I don't have an extra pair of hands to help me. And I don't think those are simple hand tools
LOL!
sushi? that was funny!
00:03:11...

Is this serious? Or is this a comedy sketch?
That little guy big head was useless in the project... those shoji are horrible.
neither does it look great/authentical, nor is it very stably build
bruh.
I think bigot might be more suitable for mark
Yikes. Not a shoji.
fake!
have nothing to do with japanese craftsmanship ...sorry guys nice try...
Says japanse and proceed to use Glue to stick two wooden frames. Lol. This is exactly how not to do a japanse style screen.
This is Terrible
IS this a joke. Surely two comedians.
Amazing
